Growth under elevated air temperature alters secondary metabolites in Robinia pseudoacacia L. seedlings in Cd- and Pb-contaminated soils.

Plant secondary metabolites play a pivotal role in growth regulation, antioxidant activity, pigment development, and other processes. As the global climate changes, increasing atmospheric temperatures and contamination of soil by heavy metals co-occur in natural ecosystems, which alters the pH of rhizosphere soil and influences the bioavailability and mobility of metals. Elevated temperatures in combination with heavy metals are expected to affect plant secondary metabolites, but this issue has not been extensively examined. Here, we investigated secondary metabolites in Robiniapseudoacacia se

Elevated CO2 Drives Cadmium Phytostabilization in the Robinia pseudoacacia-Rhizobia Symbiosis by Altering Cadmium Bioavailability, Nutrient Uptake and Antioxidant Systems.

Elevated atmospheric carbon dioxide (ECO2) is a key climatic factor influencing the resilience of plant-microbial symbiotic systems against heavy metal contamination. Robinia pseudoacacia-rhizobia symbiosis shows great potential for cadmium (Cd) remediation. However, the mechanism by which ECO2 regulates Cd phytostabilization in symbiosis remains unclear. This study conducted a 90-day experiment in growth chambers to investigate the effects of ECO2 on the growth, Cd accumulation and chemical forms, as well as nutrient uptake and antioxidant system in Robinia pseudoacacia-rhizobia symbiosis. Bactericidal effect of extracts and metabolites of Robinia pseudoacacia L. on Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis causing dental plaque and periodontal inflammatory diseases.

The mouth cavity hosts many types of anaerobic bacteria, including Streptococcus mutans and Porphyromonas gingivalis, which cause periodontal inflammatory diseases and dental caries. The present study was conducted to evaluate the antibacterial potential of extracts of Robinia pseudoacacia and its different fractions, as well as some of its natural compounds against oral pathogens and a nonpathogenic reference bacteria, Escherichia coli. The antibacterial activity of the crude extract and the solvent fractions (hexane, chloroform, ethyl acetate and butanol) of R. pseudoacacia were evaluated ag

Extremely low light promotes adventitious shoot regeneration via RpPHYA/RpHYH-antagonized auxin biosynthesis and transport through dual regulation of RpPIN1 in Robinia pseudoacacia.

Extremely low light (ELL) is widely applied as a strategy to enhance adventitious shoot (AS) regeneration in woody plants. However, how ELL acts as an environmental signal to reprogram regenerative competence remains unclear. Here, we show that ELL for 14 days (ELL14) markedly promotes AS regeneration across multiple genotypes of Robinia pseudoacacia. Transcriptomic and functional enrichment analyses revealed that auxin biosynthesis, transport, and signaling constitute the core pathways activated under ELL14. Consistently, auxin levels increased, and the inhibition of biosynthesis or transport

Oral administration of Robinia pseudoacacia L. flower exosome-like nanoparticles attenuates gastric and small intestinal mucosal ferroptosis caused by hypoxia through inhibiting HIF-1α- and HIF-2α-mediated lipid peroxidation.

The prevention and treatment of gastrointestinal mucosal injury caused by a plateau hypoxic environment is a clinical conundrum due to the unclear mechanism of this syndrome; however, oxidative stress and microbiota dysbiosis may be involved. The Robinia pseudoacacia L. flower, homologous to a functional food, exhibits various pharmacological effects, such as antioxidant, antibacterial, and hemostatic activities. An increasing number of studies have revealed that plant exosome-like nanoparticles (PELNs) can improve the intestinal microbiota and exert antioxidant effects. In this study, the ora

Assessing Botanical Authenticity of Honey Through DNA-Metabarcoding-Based Pollen Analysis: A Preliminary Study.

Honey is highly vulnerable to botanical mislabeling and fraud, highlighting the need for dedicated analytical approaches capable of reliably supporting authenticity assessment. To the best of our knowledge, this study is the first to integrate traditional melissopalynology and rbcL DNA metabarcoding for the botanical characterization of honeys collected from Apulian beekeepers. Melissopalynological analysis confirmed the labeled floral source in 6/10 (60%) samples, while four samples were reclassified. One cherry honey was identified as polyfloral, and one robinia (acacia) honey as crimson clo

Elevated CO2 and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi enhanced black locust seedling defense under cadmium exposure by 13C isotopic tracer.

Elevated CO2 (eCO2) and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) positively influence plant defense under heavy metal exposure individually, however, the combination of them and the contribution of eCO2 were still unclear. The pot experiment was employed to explore the combined effect of eCO2 (700 ppm) and Funneliformis mosseae on the defense of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) grown in cadmium (Cd)-polluted soils by 13C isotope tracer. Elevated CO2 significantly caused an increase in Cd content, decreases in contents of malonaldehyde, carotenoids, soluble sugars and proteins, metallothioneins

Effects of elevated CO2 and arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi on root exudates of black locust seedlings grown in cadmium-polluted soils by 13C isotope tracer.

Root exudates contribute to heavy metal migration in soils, which are easily influenced by many factors such as arbuscular mycorrhizal fungi (AMF) and atmospheric CO2. To understand the effect of increasing atmospheric CO2 and AMF on root exudates of plants exposed to heavy metals, we investigated the impacts of elevated CO2 (eCO2) and AMF strain Funneliformis mosseae (FM) on root exudates of black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia L.) cultivated in cadmium (Cd)-polluted soils using 13C isotope tracer under sterile conditions. 93 metabolites were identified from root exudates including phenolic aci

Alfalfa leaf curl virus is transmitted by Aphis craccivora in a highly specific circulative manner.

Two members of the genus Capulavirus (Geminiviridae) are transmitted by aphids including Alfalfa leaf curl virus (ALCV) transmitted by Aphis craccivora. The capulavirus Euphorbia caput-medusae latent virus was shown here to be transmitted also by A. craccivora, using the population EuphorbiaSA. ALCV was transmissible by several A. craccivora populations including Robinia, but not the EuphorbiaSA population, reflecting a high transmission specificity. Typical of the circulative-persistent mode of transmission, ALCV persists through insect molts. ALCV accumulation and localization were analyzed

Physio-biochemical regulation of drought resistance in tree species within dryland plantations.

Drought-resistance strategies play a crucial role in determining tree resilience and mortality. During drought, stomatal closure limits photosynthesis and triggers the overproduction of reactive oxygen species. This process may decrease carbohydrate availability, which is key for antioxidant defense and osmoregulation. However, the mechanisms by which different species coordinate physiological and biochemical responses to drought, particularly for dryland tree plantations, remain poorly understood. To this end, we analyzed gas exchange, leaf water potential, and biochemical variables in apple

The effects of some chemical compounds on the sound absorbing ability of tree bark.

Tree bark is an important natural polymer for sound absorption. The main components in the bark of different tree species are polymers with high molecular weight such as cellulose, hemicellulose, and lignin. The aim of this study is to determine the noise reduction coefficient (NRC), lignin, alcohol-benzene solubility (ABS), carbon (C), and nitrogen (N) contents in samples taken from the bark of different tree species-black locust (Robinia pseudoacacia), narrow-leaved ash (Fraxinus angustifolia), stone pine (Pinus pinea), silver lime (Tilia tomentosa), sweet chestnut (Castanea sativa), sessile

The Effect of Chinese Traditional Medicine Huaiqihuang (HQH) on the Protection of Nephropathy.

Kidney disease is one of the common diseases with high morbidity and high mortality, which brings a huge burden to the society and the patient's family. The pathogenesis, treatment, and prognosis of kidney diseases are related to oxidative stress, inflammation, mitochondrial damage, and immune dysfunction. However, existing treatments always cause some damage to the kidneys. Kidney disease and immunosuppressant used together often lead to drug toxicity, patients with weakened immunity, organic rupture of the normal structure of the kidney, damage to the physiological function of the kidney, et

Arbuscular mycorrhizal fungal interactions bridge the support of root-associated microbiota for slope multifunctionality in an erosion-prone ecosystem.

The role of diverse soil microbiota in restoring erosion-induced degraded lands is well recognized. Yet, the facilitative interactions among symbiotic arbuscular mycorrhizal (AM) fungi, rhizobia, and heterotrophic bacteria, which underpin multiple functions in eroded ecosystems, remain unclear. Here, we utilized quantitative microbiota profiling and ecological network analyses to explore the interplay between the diversity and biotic associations of root-associated microbiota and multifunctionality across an eroded slope of a Robinia pseudoacacia plantation on the Loess Plateau. We found expli

Effect of orally and intraperitoneally administered plant lectins on food consumption of rats.

A panel of orally administered lectins (100 mg/kg b.w.) of different binding specificities was tested for suppression of voluntary food consumption in prefasted rats. PHA isolectins (Phaseolus vulgaris) and RPA-I (Robinia pseudoacacia) were found to exert a marked and significant effect, but two other gut-binding lectins, i.e. SBA (Glycine max) and WGA (Triticum vulgar) and several non-binding lectins were ineffective. In cannulated rats PHA infused into the duodenum induced food suppression, i.e. binding of the lectin to the mouth or stomach was unnecessary. Suppression of food consumption la
