The novelty of coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) vaccines implies the possibility of unexpected reactions. There is also a relative paucity of data regarding interactions between COVID-19 immunization and preexisting autoimmune disease. That said, we present a case with a known autoimmune illness developing a second with possible association with COVID-19 vaccination.

Rabies is a vaccine-preventable, zoonotic, viral disease and a major public health concern for developing countries such as Nepal. A study was conducted from October-December 2021 among 308 household heads from three districts in Nepal (Siraha, Parsa, and Nawalparasi West) through an in-person interview to examine the rural people's practices towards rabies. Of 70 respondents owning pet animals, 82.9% vaccinated them against rabies but 87.9% (51/58) of them kept a vaccination record. Nearly all respondents (99.7%, 307/308) said they would visit hospitals after being bitten by rabid or rabies s

The infection protection and control team and occupational health service come together every year to promote the flu vaccine among health professionals. In 2020, the risk of the co-circulation of the flu virus and SARS-CoV-2 strengthened their case. During the last trimester, we surveyed health professionals to find out their intention with regard to the flu and covid-19 vaccines: 42% said they wanted to be vaccinated against the flu, but only 23% were willing to have the covid-19 vaccine.

High vaccination rates are integral to reducing infection and severity rates of COVID-19 infections within a community. We examine the role of social expectations in COVID-19 vaccination take-ups and its interaction with potential government actions in Malaysia. We find that individuals' expectations of others in their social groups towards vaccination predicts those individuals' vaccination registrations. Using a vignette experiment, we examine the extent of normative expectations in normalizing pro-vaccination behavior beyond an individual's reference group. We find that unless moderated by

BACKGROUND: Vaccination against Ebolavirus is an emerging public health tool during Ebola Virus Disease outbreaks. We examined demand issues related to deployment of Ebolavirus vaccine during the 2014-2015 outbreak in Sierra Leone.
METHODS: A cluster survey was administered to a population-based sample in December 2014 (N = 3540), before any Ebola vaccine was available to the general public in Sierra Leone. Ebola vaccine demand was captured in this survey by three Likert-scale items that were used to develop a composite score and dichotomized into a binary outcome to define high demand. A mul

Current models of vaccination coverage screening and surveillance might miss underserved populations whose only health care access occurs in emergency departments (EDs). During April-December 2024, a survey of non-critically ill adult patients evaluated in 10 EDs in eight U.S. cities across five states was conducted to ascertain patients' vaccination knowledge, self-reported vaccination coverage, and willingness to receive vaccines in an ED. Among 4,326 patients approached by the research team, 3,285 (75.9%) agreed to participate. Non-Hispanic Black or African American (Black), non-Hispanic Wh

HIV vaccine mediated efficacy, using an expanded live attenuated recombinant varicella virus-vectored SIV rSVV-SIVgag/env vaccine prime with adjuvanted SIV-Env and SIV-Gag protein boosts, was evaluated in a female rhesus macaques (RM) model against repeated intravaginal SIV challenges. Vaccination induced anti-SIV IgG responses and neutralizing antibodies were found in all vaccinated RMs. Three of the eight vaccinated RM remained uninfected (vaccinated and protected, VP) after 13 repeated challenges with the pathogenic SIVmac251-CX-1. The remaining five vaccinated and infected (VI) macaques ha

BACKGROUND: Cardiovascular disease (CVD) is the leading cause of death and illness globally. Influenza, pneumococcal disease and herpes zoster infection may trigger acute cardiovascular events or cause complications among cardiac patients. Vaccination is recommended for adults with CVD. There is a gap in research evidence around determinants and uptake of influenza, pneumococcal and zoster vaccines in adults with CVD.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this study is to examine the rate of the uptake of influenza, zoster and pneumococcal vaccines, factors associated with the uptake of influenza vaccine, an

BACKGROUND: Parent refusal or deliberate delay of their child's vaccinations poses a challenge for pediatricians. Some pediatricians may choose to dismiss these families from their practice.
OBJECTIVES: To describe pediatricians' responses to scenarios of vaccine refusal, identify reasons pediatricians cite for both parent refusal and family dismissal, and illustrate pediatrician attitudes about well-established vs newer recommended vaccines.
DESIGN/METHODS: We conducted a nationwide survey mailed to 1004 randomly selected American Academy of Pediatrics (Elk Grove Village, Ill) members.

Of 400 Washington State family practitioners surveyed in 1986, 46% of those who give routine immunizations reported that they require written parental consent before administering vaccine. In all, 57% of respondents said they discuss diphtheria-tetanus-pertussis, measles-mumps-rubella, and oral polio vaccine with their patients. Nearly half provide written information on these immunizations, except for inactivated polio vaccine, for which fewer than 20% of the physicians surveyed provide verbal or written information.

Objectives. To explore previous COVID-19 diagnosis and COVID-19 vaccination status among US essential worker groups. Methods. We analyzed the US Census Household Pulse Survey (May 26-July 5, 2021), a nationally representative sample of adults aged 18 years and older. We compared currently employed essential workers working outside the home with those working at home using adjusted prevalence ratios. We calculated proportion vaccinated and intention to be vaccinated, stratifying by essential worker and demographic groups for those who worked or volunteered outside the home since January 1, 2021

Acute otitis media is an extremely common disease, most children being subject to it once or more during their first 5 years of life. Thirty to forty per cent of episodes of acute otitis media are caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae. Resistance of pneumococci to antibiotics is an increasing problem particularly in France. Since 1983 a 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine has been available, containing in particular four serotypes that carry penicillin resistance. Unfortunately, this vaccine is therefore not fully effective until after the age of 2 years. In spite of good serologic resp

BACKGROUND: Live attenuated viruses are among our most potent and effective vaccines. For human immunodeficiency virus, however, a live attenuated strain could present substantial safety concerns. We have used the live attenuated rubella vaccine strain RA27/3 as a vector to express SIV and HIV vaccine antigens because its safety and immunogenicity have been demonstrated in millions of children. One dose protects for life against rubella infection. In previous studies, rubella vectors replicated to high titers in cell culture while stably expressing SIV and HIV antigens. Their viability in vivo

We have reported that infection of fetal or neonatal rhesus macaques with attenuated SIVmac1A11 results in transient viremia, anti-SIV antibody responses, weak or absent cytotoxic T-lymphocyte responses, and no clinical disease. In light of these results, we hypothesized that congenital infection with SIVmac1A11 produced immune tolerance to SIV. To test this hypothesis, at approximately 1 year of age, five rhesus macaques infected with SIVmac1A11 as fetuses (n = 3) or newborns (n = 2) and five naive juvenile rhesus macaques were challenged orally with pathogenic SIVmac251. The five naive anima

BACKGROUND: Human papillomavirus (HPV) is a necessary cause of cervical dysplasia and cancer, and of genital warts. Few studies have examined attitudes to HPV vaccination since the introduction of HPV vaccines. We aimed to investigate the reasons for young women's acceptance or rejection of the quadrivalent HPV vaccine after its general availability in Denmark.
METHOD: A literature review assessed attitudes towards HPV vaccination and the information was used to identify relevant questions for telephone and focus group interviews with women aged 16-26 who had decided to receive or reject HPV

HPV vaccination is the most effective way for preventing the cervical cancer. To respond the WHO calling for cervical cancer elimination, some Chinese provincial governments are launching the Free HPV Vaccination Programs for teenagers. Basing on the current stage of domestic utilization and the global immunization strategies of HPV vaccination, this paper provides a comprehensive review of the key aspects in the process of HPV vaccination, including subjects and priority vaccination population, vaccination dose and time interval, the principal of vaccination replacement, and the vaccination s

BACKGROUND: An effective AIDS vaccine remains one of the highest priorities in HIV-research. Our recent study showed that vaccination of rhesus macaques with recombinant simian varicella virus (rSVV) vector - simian immunodeficiency virus (SIV) envelope and gag genes, induced neutralizing antibodies and cellular immune responses to SIV and also significantly reduced plasma viral loads following intravenous pathogenic challenge with SIVMAC251/CX1.
FINDINGS: The purpose of this study was to define cellular immunological correlates of protection in rSVV-SIV vaccinated and SIV challenged animals.

BACKGROUND: COVID-19 vaccine coverage in the Latinx community depends on delivery systems that overcome barriers such as institutional distrust, misinformation, and access to care. We hypothesized that a community-centered vaccination strategy that included mobilization, vaccination, and "activation" components could successfully reach an underserved Latinx population, utilizing its social networks to boost vaccination coverage.
METHODS: Our community-academic-public health partnership, "Unidos en Salud," utilized a theory-informed approach to design our "Motivate, Vaccinate, and Activate" CO

Idiopathic inflammatory myopathies (IIMs) confer a significant risk of disability and poor quality of life, though fatigue, an important contributing factor, remains under-reported in these individuals. We aimed to compare and analyze differences in visual analog scale (VAS) scores (0-10 cm) for fatigue (VAS-F) in patients with IIMs, non-IIM systemic autoimmune diseases (SAIDs), and healthy controls (HCs). We performed a cross-sectional analysis of the data from the COVID-19 Vaccination in Autoimmune Diseases (COVAD) international patient self-reported e-survey. The COVAD survey was circulated

The coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19), caused by severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), has precipitated a global health crisis of unprecedented proportions. Due to its severe impact, multiple COVID-19 vaccines are being developed, approved, and manufactured rapidly. However, some serious adverse events (AEs) were reported after the application of them, significantly increasing concerns about the safety and efficacy of the vaccines and doubts about the necessity of vaccination. Particularly, previous vaccination campaigns have shown us that partial vaccination can indu
