Salmonella in a breast abscess is uncommon, and Salmonella paratyphi A causing breast abscess is a rare entity. It has been reported post immunosuppression. We report here a 35-year-old woman with breast abscess caused by S. paratyphi A without obvious enteric fever-like symptoms. The case was managed with combined surgical and medical approach to treat the aetiology and focal infection.

Enteric fever can present with unusual manifestations. We observed a rare case of Salmonella paratyphi A infection in which multiple organs were involved and the organism was isolated from pleural fluid and blood. In the present era of antimicrobial drug resistance, awareness about such atypical presentations is essential to initiate a prompt treatment.

We report a patient with simultaneous Salmonella paratyphi A and hepatitis E virus infection. The possibility of coinfection with water borne diseases in India is emphasized.

Paratyphoid fever is an acute infection caused by Salmonella paratyphi A, B or C. The disease is transmitted from person to person by fecal-oral way. Typical for typhoid fever are splenomegaly, bradycardia, fever, constipation or mild diarrhoea oftten associated with abdominal tenderness. We present the case of patient who was infected by Salmonella paratyphi C while his travelling in Asia.

Bone and joint infections associated with Salmonella spp account for less than 1% of all Salmonella infections. Most of the isolates are Salmonella typhi. Joint infections with S. paratyphi are uncommon, and there have been only a few reported cases in literature. Psoas abscess caused by S. paratyphi has not been reported previously in the literature. We report a case of S. paratyphi A osteomyelitis and psoas abscess.

BACKGROUND/OBJECTIVES: Typhoid and paratyphoid fever together are responsible for millions of cases and thousands of deaths per year, most of which occur in children in South and Southeast Asia. While typhoid conjugate vaccines (TCVs) are licensed, no vaccines are currently available against S. Paratyphi A. Here we describe the design of a S. Paratyphi A conjugate.
METHODS: The serovar-specific O-antigen (O:2) was linked to the CRM197 carrier protein (O:2-CRM197) and a panel of conjugates differing for structural characteristics were compared in mice and rabbits.
RESULTS: We identified the O

BACKGROUND: Typhoid (Salmonella typhi and paratyphi) carriers and gall bladder cancer (GBC) are endemic in northern India. Results of previous studies about association of typhoid carriers with GBC are inconsistent. We studied antibodies against Salmonella typhi and paratyphi in serum samples of patients with GBC.
METHODS: We performed modified Widal test for antibodies against Salmonella typhi (Vi and O) and Salmonella paratyphi (AO and BO) antigens in patients with GBC (n=100), xanthogranulomatous cholecystitis (XGC, n=24), chronic cholecystitis (CC, n=200) and healthy controls (HC, n=200).

Salmonella enterica serovar Paratyphi A, the causative agent of paratyphoid fever, is a neglected tropical disease with a high burden and mortality in low- and middle-income countries. Limited information is available regarding its genomic diversity, especially from South Asian countries that are collectively responsible for >80% of all paratyphoid cases. At the 2021 International Conference on Typhoid and Other Salmonelloses, researchers from the around the globe presented their work on Salmonella Paratyphi A genomics. Presentations described recent genomic data from South Asia and the develo…

Sepsis due to Salmonella enterica serovar Typhi and Paratyphi A is rare in neonates. Though described as a mild and unrecognized illness in infants, life-threatening complications and even deaths have been reported. We present five cases of neonatal septicaemia due to S. Typhi and S. Paratyphi A. The cases were presented because of their interesting clinical presentations and possible modes of transmission. Salmonella infections should be considered in the differential diagnosis of sepsis neonatorum, especially in endemic areas.

The incidence of enteric fever caused by Salmonella enterica serotype Paratyphi A has been increasing in India since 1996. In 1998, the incidence of enteric fever caused by drug- resistant S. Paratyphi A abruptly increased in the New Delhi region. In the first 6 months of 1999, 32% of isolates were resistant to both chloramphenicol and cotrimoxazole and another 13% were resistant to more than two antibiotics.

The authors report a case of urinary tract infection caused by Salmonella paratyphi A in a patient with Schistosoma mansoni bilharziasis and describe the symbiotic relationship between these two micro-organisms. The association was not fortuitous: schistosomes behave as reservoirs of bacteria and can cause bacterial discharges followed by a long carrying period.
