Ewing sarcoma (E.S.) is a rare malignant tumour of the bone, dubious in origin and uncertain in the direction of its differentiation [2,3,7,10]. Recent reports have presented description of primary neoplasms of soft tissues which revealed no differences from E.S. in light and electron-microscopy but had no connection with the skeleton [1,4,5,6,8,9]. These lesions, found in subcutaneous tissue of the trunk and limbs, in the retroperitoneum and in paravertebral regions were called extraskeletal Ewing sarcoma (E.E.S.) or soft tissue Ewing sarcoma. As tumours of this type are infrequent and may ca

A 18 years old female patient was admitted to our clinic with a diagnosis of non-Hodgkin malignant lymphoma originating from the subcutaneous tissue of the left paravertebral region. Notwithstanding cycles of polychemotherapy and radiotherapy, clinical conditions rapidly worsened with rapid appearance of an increasing number of cutaneous neoplastic infiltrations. Due to the rapid spread of the malignancy -- as shown by lung X-rays and bone marrow biopsy -- the patient died 8 months after the onset of the disease (2 months after admittance). At autopsy, tumor cell infiltrates were found not onl

Ewing sarcomas are the 2nd cause of malignant bone tumors in children and young adults. After induction chemotherapy, local treatment is essential and most often includes surgery of the primary tumor. Radiotherapy may be necessary as an exclusive local procedure when surgery is not possible, or in an adjuvant situation when the surgical procedure must be completed (incomplete resection or poor histological response in particular). Radiotherapy can also concern metastatic sites, particularly in cases of pulmonary metastases and/or in an oligo-metastatic situation. This article provides a review

Ewing's sarcoma (ES) is a rare malignant bone tumor that usually affects long bones and the pelvis and is most frequently diagnosed during childhood and adolescence. We report the case of a 30-year-old woman who presented with calcaneus pain and swelling. At the time of diagnosis, imaging tests showed a calcaneal lesion with bone metastases. ES was confirmed by histopathological examination. The patient was treated with palliative chemotherapy and surgery due to the progression of the swelling and local secondary infection. Postoperative computed tomography of the thorax, abdomen, and pelvis r

Ewing's sarcoma is a relatively rare malignancy, occurring mainly between 4 and 25 years of age. It usually arises from the pelvis, followed by the femur, tibia, and remainder of both the long bones of the extremities and flat bones of the axial skeleton. To the best of our knowledge, Ewing's sarcoma of the patella has never been reported previously. Patellar tumors occur infrequently and represent an uncommon etiology of anterior knee pain. We describe the rare case of a 41-year-old man who presented with a 3-4 month history of escalating right anterior knee pain and swelling. Imaging demonst

Three patients with intracranial Ewing's sarcoma had neuro-ophthalmologic manifestations. In one patient, the primary tumor was in the skull and in two, it involved the long bones. Two patients complained of intermittent headache associated with bilateral, transient visual symptoms suggestive of migraine, which prompted imaging that showed occipital metastases. The third patient had an orbital syndrome.

The patient was a female aged 18. Hematuria was discovered at an examination two years previously at which time the patient was complaining of right lumbar pain. The patient visited our hospital with a chief complaint of right abdominal tumor in June, 1988. A retroperitoneal tumor, 77 X 45 mm in size, was observed by CT and ultrasonic examination, and the right kidney was in hydronephrosis. An operation was performed in September, 1988, based on a diagnosis of retroperitoneal tumor and hydronephrosis. The tumor was seen to have involved the right ureter. Subsequently the tumor was surgically r

Ewing's sarcoma is a rare, malignant neoplasm that is most common in children and adolescents. It is common in both the axial and appendicular skeleton but has been rarely reported in the foot. Historically, treatment has consisted of chemotherapy and radiation therapy. The roll of surgery in the management of these lesions have recently been "rediscovered" and depends on the anatomic location. The purpose of this paper is to discuss five consecutive cases of Ewing's Sarcoma of the forefoot treated with below-the-knee amputation for local tumor control. Four of the five patients also underwent

Gene expression and knockdown systems are powerful tools for studying the function of single genes and their interactions within pathways. Plasmid transfection and viral transduction have revolutionized the field of molecular biology and paved the way for various gene-editing strategies such as TALEN, Zink finger nucleases, and ultimately CRISPR. In Ewing sarcoma (EwS), almost as many genes are repressed by the expression of EWSR1-FLI1 as are upregulated by the fusion oncogene. Here, we present a useful point-by-point protocol for generating transgene expression systems in EwS that allow (cond

Ewing sarcoma (ES) and primitive neuroectodermal tumor (PNET) belong to the group of neoplasms called small round cell tumors. PNETs have been divided into central and peripheral. ES and peripheral PNETs arise from bones, soft tissues, or peripheral nerves. We present a case of hepatic ES/PNET in a healthy man that began four months before consultation with abdominal symptoms and weight loss. Upper gastrointestinal endoscopy and laboratory tests revealed no notable findings. The abdominal tomography revealed an enlarged liver due to a solid lesion that involved all its segments with intravenou

In the span of the last 48 years, only 33 cases of children with orbital Ewing sarcoma have been reported. This study is to present 3 cases that were admitted to Children's Cancer Hospital Egypt 57357, during the period from 2009 to 2013. We have 2 cases treated using the hospital standard Ewing sarcoma treatment protocol, to completion, whereas the third discontinued treatment. All tumors have confirmed CD99 positivity, although translocation (11;22) was positive in 1 patient and negative in the third. With earlier diagnosis and adequate surgical resection and integration of chemotherapy and

Multifocal skeletal Ewing sarcoma is very rare. A 10-year-old boy presented with multiple independent lesions involving the first phalanx of the middle toe, the second metatarsal bone, the cuneiform and cuboid bones, and the talus. Diagnosis of Ewing sarcoma was confirmed by open biopsy of 2 nonadjacent bones. Chest computed tomography disclosed the presence of multiple lung metastases. The patient underwent chemotherapy, below-knee amputation, and lung irradiation. To the best of the authors' knowledge, no similar case has been previously reported in the literature.

PURPOSE: To report the clinicopathologic features of a 17-year-old patient with primary Ewing sarcoma of the orbit.
METHODS: The patient was evaluated clinically before surgery with computed tomography scans of the orbit. After surgery, the patient was staged with computed tomography scans and bone scan and was treated with systemic chemotherapy and radiation therapy to the orbit. The orbital biopsy was evaluated with conventional light microscopy and immunohistochemistry.
RESULTS: Clinical evaluation revealed proptosis and limited upgaze. Computed tomography scans disclosed a mass involving

Ewing sarcoma is the most common malignant bone tumor of the pelvis in children and young adults. Even with aggressive treatment, its survival rate is amongst the poorest. Classical presentation may not be the rule. It may simulate clinically, imagiologically and histopathologically other nonmalignant entities. Therefore, its suspicion should not be overlooked. We report two cases of pelvic Ewing sarcoma: the first mimicking eosinophilic granuloma, and the second mimicking osteomyelitis. In the latter, we also report an atypical finding of its natural history: an initial response to antibiotic

Ewing sarcoma is the second most prevalent malignant primary bone tumor but constitutes only a small proportion of cardiac metastases. We present a case of asymptomatic Ewing sarcoma metastatic to the right ventricle. A 36-year-old man presented for evaluation and resection of a pedunculated right ventricular cardiac tumor. Three years before, he had been diagnosed with translocation-negative Ewing sarcoma, for which he had undergone chemotherapy and amputation of the left leg below the knee. We resected the right ventricular tumor. Analysis of the resected mass supported the diagnosis of meta

BACKGROUND: Primary cutaneous/subcutaneous Ewing sarcoma (scEWS) is extremely rare. We describe clinical features, treatment, and outcome of this Ewing localization.
PROCEDURE: Retrospective study (1996-2012) on 56 patients.
RESULTS: Most primary scEWS occurred in late adolescent/young adult females (F/M = 1.9; median age 21.5 years), with primary tumor in the extremity/trunk (48.5%/39%). Only 35/56 samples had Real-Time-Polymerase-Chain-Reaction/Fluorescent-In-Situ-Hybridization analysis, 32/35 had EWS-translocation. Most of them exhibited known favorable prognostic factors: localized disea

Ewing Sarcoma (ES) is a rare form of bone cancer that most commonly affects children and adolescents. Chromosomal translocations are fundamental to the development of Ewing Sarcoma, linked to the changes in gene expression affecting transcription factors. Histone acetyl transferases (HATs) and histone deacetylases (HDACs) regulate transcription by modifying acetylation of both histones and transcription factors. Despite the use of multimodal therapeutic approaches current therapies are associated with significant short and long-term side effects. Hence, new therapeutic approaches are needed. I
