Three-dimensional phase-sensitive inversion recovery sequencing in the evaluation of left ventricular myocardial scars in ischemic and non-ischemic cardiomyopathy: comparison to three-dimensional inversion recovery sequencing.

BACKGROUND: Late gadolinium enhancement (LGE) magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) is a useful technique for detecting myocardial fibrosis. LGE images are typically acquired using the inversion recovery (IR) method. Recently, phase-sensitive inversion recovery (PSIR) technology has been developed. The purpose of this study was to evaluate free-breathing 3D PSIR sequencing in comparison with breath-held 3D IR sequencing for the detection of myocardial fibrosis. METHODS: One hundred twenty-three patients with suspected ischemic cardiac disease (n=27) or non-ischemic cardiomyopathy (hypertrophic car

Brain short T2 component imaging using double adiabatic inversion recovery prepared ultrashort Echo time (DIR-UTE) sequence.

Short T2 components in the brain are uniquely associated with myelin structure, but direct MR imaging is challenging due to their relatively short T2 values and low proton density compared to long T2 water. This study introduces a novel 3D double adiabatic inversion recovery-prepared ultrashort echo time (DIR-UTE) sequence for selective whole-brain imaging of short T2 components. The sequence employs two identical adiabatic inversion pulses with optimized inversion times (TIs) to suppress long T2 signals, followed by a 3D UTE acquisition to capture rapidly decaying signals. Technical feasibili

Physiological and pathological skeletal muscle T1 changes quantified using a fast inversion-recovery radial NMR imaging sequence.

We investigated the response of skeletal muscle global T1 under different physiological and pathological conditions using an inversion-recovery radial T1 mapping sequence. Thirty five healthy volunteers, seven patients with Becker muscular dystrophy (BMD) and seven patients with sporadic inclusion body myositis (IBM) were investigated in order to evaluate the effects of gender, age, muscle group, exercise and pathological processes on global T1 values. In addition, the intramuscular fat content was measured using 3-point Dixon and the global T2 and water T2 (T2H2O) were determined with a multi

Optimization of a double inversion recovery sequence for noninvasive synovium imaging of joint effusion in the knee.

PURPOSE: We wanted to optimize a double inversion recovery (DIR) sequence to image joint effusion regions of the knee, especially intracapsular or intrasynovial imaging in the suprapatellar bursa and patellofemoral joint space. METHODS: Computer simulations were performed to determine the optimum inversion times (TI) for suppressing both fat and water signals, and a DIR sequence was optimized based on the simulations for distinguishing synovitis from fluid. In vivo studies were also performed on individuals who showed joint effusion on routine knee MR images to demonstrate the feasibility of

Evaluations of non-contrast enhanced MR venography with inflow inversion recovery sequence in diagnosing Budd-Chiari syndrome.

Non-contrast-enhanced (NCE) inflow inversion recovery magnetic resonance venography (MRV)and digital subtraction angiography (DSA) examination were carried out in 35 patients who were suspected of having Budd-Chiari syndrome (BCS). With DSA as the reference, NCE MRV got 100% in the diagnostic sensitivity, 67.8% in the specificity, 97.1% in the accuracy, 100% in the negative predictive value, and 96.9% in the positive predictive value. The consistency between NCE MRV and DSA in the depiction of IVC was excellent. NCE MRV is regarded as an alternative method in the diagnosis of BCS.

The value of the short tau inversion recovery sequence in magnetic resonance imaging of thyroid eye disease.

22 patients with thyroid eye disease were examined with magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) and the results compared with 10 controls. Imaging was performed on a 1.0 T scanner using a head coil. All patients were examined using both T1W and short tau inversion recovery (STIR) sequences. The relative signal intensity (SI) of individual extraocular muscles were quantified by comparison with SI from the adjacent temporalis muscle to give a signal intensity ratio (SIR). The results were compared with clinical disease activity assessed by the Werner grading system. Visual evaluation of muscle size and

Inverse FoldDir: Structure-conditioned Protein Sequence Design by Dirichlet Flow Matching.

1 Protein engineering has important implications in the bioeconomy, enabling applications in materials, medicine, and energy. A key challenge is designing protein sequences that have a specific form and function. Protein inverse folding seeks to address this challenge by identifying amino acid sequences compatible with a desired protein backbone. This task is central to protein redesign and can provide a sequence-design capability for de novo backbones produced by structure-generation methods. Ideally, inverse folding can provide diverse sequence alternatives, fixed residues or motifs, soft bi

Isolation and analysis of the breakpoint sequences of chromosome inversion In(3L)Payne in Drosophila melanogaster.

Chromosomal rearrangements constitute a significant feature of genome evolution, and inversion polymorphisms in Drosophila have been studied intensely for decades. Population geneticists have long recognized that the sequence features associated with inversion breakpoints would reveal much about the mutational origin, uniqueness, and genealogical history of individual inversion polymorphisms, but the cloning of breakpoint sequences is not trivial. With the aid of a method for rapid recovery of DNA clones spanning rearrangement breakpoints, we recover and examine the DNA sequences spanning the

MRI of the brain stem using fluid attenuated inversion recivery pulse sequences.

Heavily T2-weighted fluid-attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequences with inversion times of 2000-2500 ms and echo times of 130-200 ms were used to image the brain stem of a normal adult and five patients. These sequences produce high signal from many white matter tracts and display high lesion contrast. The corticospinal and parietopontine tracts, lateral and medial lemnisci, superior and inferior cerebellar peduncles, medial longitudinal fasciculi, thalamo-olivary tracts and the cuneate and gracile fasciculi gave high signal and were directly visualised. The oculomotor and trigeminal ne

[Magnetic resonance tomographic diagnosis of retrobulbar neuritis using inversion recovery sequences].

Inversion recovery sequences with short inversion periods (STIR sequences) are particularly suitable for the examination of the intra-orbital and intracanalicular portion of the optic nerve, since they selectively suppress interference from neighbouring fat. This technique makes possible direct demonstration of retrobulbar neuritis that had to be diagnosed exclusively by clinical criteria up to now. As evidence of inflammatory changes in 15 out of 18 patients with acute retrobulbar neuritis, there were areas of increased signal intensity in the affected nerve; in six cases the nerve was also s

Magnetic resonance imaging in partial epilepsy: additional abnormalities shown with the fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) pulse sequence.

Thirty six patients with a history of partial epilepsy had MRI of the brain performed with conventional T1 and T2 weighted pulse sequences as well as the fluid attenuated inversion recovery (FLAIR) sequence. Abnormalities were found in 20 cases (56%), in whom there were 25 lesions or groups of lesions. Twenty four of these lesions were more conspicuous with the FLAIR sequence than with any of the conventional sequences. In 11 of these 20 cases, lesions thought to be of aetiological importance were only seen with the FLAIR sequence. In eight this was a solitary lesion. In the other three, an ad

Abnormal sequence of expression of differentiation markers in psoriatic epidermis: inversion of two steps in the differentiation program?

This immunohistologic study was undertaken to compare epidermal differentiation in normal and psoriatic skin. Although basal cells retain a normal phenotype in this disease, suprabasal layers exhibit abnormal sets of differentiation markers. The 67-kD keratin and Bd5 antigen, which are found in normal epidermis immediately above the basal layer, appear several layers higher in involved psoriatic epidermis. On the contrary, KF2 antigen, which is found in the upper spinous layers of normal epidermis, appears more precociously in psoriatic epidermis. Paradoxically, in this disease characterized b

Correlation of Pancreatic T1 Values Using Modified Look-Locker Inversion Recovery Sequence (MOLLI) with Pancreatic Exocrine and Endocrine Function.

UNLABELLED: Quantifying myocardial T1 values has been useful for detecting and characterizing fibrotic appearance in myocardial infarction, focal scars, and non-ischemic cardiomyopathies. Since pancreatic exocrine function decreases with chronic pancreatic fibrosis advancement, this study examined the correlation between pancreatic T1 values and pancreatic exocrine and endocrine insufficiency. METHODS: Thirty-two patients underwent abdominal contrast-enhanced MRI in our department between October 2017 and February 2019. We evaluated the T1 values of the pancreas using a modified Look-Locker i

An optimized 3D inversion recovery prepared fast spoiled gradient recalled sequence for carotid plaque hemorrhage imaging at 3.0 T.

An optimized 3D inversion recovery prepared fast spoiled gradient recalled sequence (IR FSPGR) on a 3-T scanner for carotid plaque imaging is described. It offers clear blood and fat signal suppression at the carotid artery bifurcation and highlights the regions of carotid plaque affected by hemorrhage at 3 T with high contrast and contrast-to-noise ratio compared with other sequences. It can potentially be used to replace the more traditional noncontrast T(1)-weighted 2D black-blood imaging for hemorrhage detection and offers additional benefits of high-resolution 3D volumetric visualization.

Magnetic resonance imaging with fluid-attenuated inversion recovery pulse sequences in MELAS syndrome.

We report the brain magnetic resonance imaging findings in the case of a 5-year-old boy with mitochondrial myopathy, encephalopathy, lactic acidosis and stroke-like episodes (MELAS). Fluid-attenuation inversion recovery (FLAIR) imaging revealed multifocal abnormal cortical signals which were difficult to see on conventional T1- and T2-weighted images. Although the patient was in an advanced clinical stage of disease and had severe cortical atrophy, FLAIR imaging demonstrated characteristic findings of MELAS.

Fast Volumetric Imaging of Bone Using a Three-Dimensional Short TR Adiabatic Inversion Recovery Ultrashort Echo Time (STAIR-UTE) Sequence.

Bone is invisible with conventional MRI sequences. It is highly desirable to develop novel MRI sequences to image bone, providing a radiation-free modality for skeletal imaging. We compared the morphological and quantitative strength of three-dimensional (3D) ultrashort echo time (UTE), zero echo time (ZTE), and short TR adiabatic inversion recovery UTE (STAIR-UTE) MRI techniques for bone imaging in various skeletal anatomical regions, including the forearm, wrist, lower leg, upper leg, and skull.
