OBJECTIVE: Auricular seroma is a cystic swelling filled with serous fluid. It occurs spontaneously or following trauma. Successful treatment of the seroma remains a challenge because this disease has a high propensity for recurrence. The aim was to study the results of the Plaster of Paris (POP) cast in treatment of seroma in terms of complete resolution of swelling, recurrence, and auricular aesthesis.
STUDY DESIGN: Prospective.
SETTING: Smt. Kashibai Navale Medical College and General Hospital.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: A total of 48 patients with auricular seroma were studied. They were tre

INTRODUCTION: Every year, 20,000 mastectomy are realized. The most common complication of these surgical procedure is seroma, occurring in a range of 10 to 85% of the cases, which may be responsible for an increased morbidity by complications: disunity of surgical flap, infection, and delay in administrating adjuvant therapies.
OBJECTIVE: We focused on a post-mastectomy padding technique, aiming at decreasing incidence of postoperative seromas.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: We conducted a retrospective study of patients treated with mastectomy from January 2012 to March 2014 in Amiens University Hos

PURPOSE: After breast-conserving surgery, a seroma often forms in the surgical cavity. If not drained, it may affect the volume of tumor bed requiring a boost after whole-breast radiation therapy (WBRT). Our objective was to evaluate the change in seroma volume that occurs during WBRT, before boost planning.
METHODS AND MATERIALS: A retrospective review was performed of women receiving breast-conserving therapy with evidence of seroma at the time of WBRT planning. Computed tomography (CT) simulation was performed before WBRT and before the tumor bed boost. All patients received either a hypof

Since the advent of sentinel node biopsy, which made it possible to reduce the morbidity of axillary surgery, axillary lymph node dissection has been constituting the treatment of reference in certain cases of breast cancer. One of the most frequent complications in the immediate postoperative period is the lymphocele or seroma, the frequency of which is independent of the axillary technique of surgery. Following an analysis of the literature, some risk factors were isolated such as a high body mass index, the high volume of the first three days drainage and arterial hypertension. Some techniq

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVES: Postoperative seroma is a common surgical site occurrence following procedures that create large subcutaneous dead spaces. This case series describes a triple-action seroma prevention protocol used during subcutaneous onlay endoscopic repair and reports early postoperative outcomes.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 36 consecutive adults who underwent modified subcutaneous onlay laparoscopic abdominal wall reconstruction for rectus diastasis and midline hernias, with or without postoperative incisional hernia, between March 2024 and December 2025. The protocol co

A woman in her 50s underwent simple limbal epithelial transplantation (SLET) in the left eye for chemical injury with total limbal stem cell deficiency. A seroma, a hitherto unreported complication of the procedure was noted on the 10th postoperative day. It was associated with an accumulation of inflammatory cells and exudates in the inferior part of the amniotic membrane resembling a hypopyon. After careful exclusion of infectious keratitis on clinical examination, the bandage contact lens was removed and the seroma was drained with a 26G hypodermic needle. A small seroma reappeared over the

Seroma is a serous fluid collection that accumulates in dead spaces, where tissue was attached to something before surgery. Abdominal seroma formation is a quite common complication after breast reconstruction with abdominal's flaps or after an abdominoplasty procedure. The most frequently used method for decreasing early seroma frequency are the use of closed suction drains, ultrasonic dissection and sharp dissection, use of fibrine, and use of clip or ligation of vessels during the sur-gery. The management strategies consist of non-operative management, percutaneous drainage, or surgical drai

Perigraft seroma is a very rare postoperative complication following abdominal aortic aneurysm repair. A 74-year-old man with history of esophageal cancer surgery, underwent Gore-Tex graft replacement for an abdominal aortic aneurysm. A 50-mm perigraft seroma was noted one year later, increasing to over 70 mm in the next 6 months. We resected the Gore-Tex graft and replaced it with a Dacron graft via a repeat laparotomy. We observed the resected Gore-Tex graft in detail using electron microscopy to investigate the mechanism of perigraft seroma.

Although perigraft seroma (PGS) is a well-known complication of vascular surgery, optimal therapy has not yet been established. A 90-year-old patient underwent a bypass from the right subclavian artery to the left carotid and subclavian arteries for debranching thoracic endovascular aortic repair. Four years post-surgery, computed tomography revealed PGS at the anastomosis site. Percutaneous needle aspiration and surgical drainage were ineffective in treating PGS. We performed a relining procedure using covered stents for the bypass graft that resolved the PGS. This procedure is minimally inva

BACKGROUND: Radical inguinal lymphadenectomy (ILND) for metastatic melanoma is associated with a high complication rate. Seroma is often the first postoperative complication, followed by prolonged wound healing sometimes requiring reoperation, infection, multiple outpatient visits and re-hospitalization. Prevention of seroma may, therefore, lead to a reduction in many of the other complications.
METHODS/DESIGN: The primary aim of this randomized study is to investigate whether fewer patients require treatment for seroma by immediate prophylactic application of incisional, Negative-pressure Wo

BACKGROUND: Seroma formation is a common complication after mastectomy. Flap fixation has the potential to prevent seroma formation, but identifying patients that are at risk of developing seroma, remains challenging. The aim of this study was to assess the association between pro-inflammatory cytokines in seroma fluid one day after surgery and seroma formation and it sequelae.
METHODS: Patients undergoing mastectomy were randomized into one of three groups: no flap fixation, flap fixation using sutures or flap fixation using tissue glue. Seroma samples from 40 consecutive patients undergoing

BACKGROUND: Postoperative seroma is an underrecognized but clinically relevant complication after parotidectomy, leading to repeated aspirations and patient discomfort. Limited evidence exists on its incidence, risk factors, and clinical course.
METHODS: We retrospectively reviewed 527 patients who underwent parotidectomy between 2020 and 2025. Demographics, tumor characteristics, surgical details, and postoperative variables were analyzed. Seroma was defined as fluid accumulation requiring aspiration without evidence of salivary fistula. Persistent seroma was defined as requiring multiple as

Seroma is a relatively uncommon complication following arteriovenous graft (AVG) procedures, and it is typically managed through conventional methods such as limb elevation, far-infrared irradiation, and ultrasound-guided puncture drainage. We report the case of a 51-year-old hemodialysis patient who was admitted due to persistent swelling at the anastomosis site of a left upper limb AVG for 3 months. Upon evaluation, the patient was diagnosed with a left AVG arterial end seroma. In response to this clinical problem, we propose an innovative treatment strategy. Initially, compression was appli

Perigraft seroma is a rare but important complication after aortic surgery. Clinical vigilance is required to differentiate this collection from more serious conditions that warrant surgical intervention. We present the case of a 25-year-old man with Marfan syndrome in whom a large symptomatic aortic arch perigraft seroma developed after a fourth redo cardiac surgery for completion total arch replacement. Eighteen months after explorative mediastinotomy, he remains well with no recurrence of the collection.

A 42-year-old gentleman underwent total aortic arch replacement with Triplex graft (Terumo corporation, Tokyo, Japan) for acute type A dissection. Sixteen months later, a computed tomography revealed a rapidly enlarging low-density area around the graft, with no contrast enhancement. The area was compressing the mediastinal structures, such as the superior vena cava and right pulmonary artery. Suspecting lymphorrhea or perigraft seroma (PGS), surgical drainage was performed. Although fluid accumulation around the graft was cloudy and yellowish, Gram stain was negative. A fatty preparation was

Late intracapsular seroma and hematoma have been described frequently as a complication of breast augmentation surgery. However, there are few reports of late intracapsular seroma in buttock augmentation. Textured and polyurethane implants have been used for subfascial enlargement of the buttocks. In this article, the authors report a large late intracapsular bilateral seroma caused by a retrofascial polyurethane-covered implant used for buttock augmentation: 1,200 ml on one side and 300 ml on the other. This patient's intracapsular seroma was of sudden onset 2 years and 6 months after surgery

We report a 26-year-old patient with slowly developing perigraft seroma 15 years after a modified Blalock-Taussig shunt with an expanded polytetrafluorethylene graft. The mediastinal mass was first observed on a chest x-ray film 8 years after the shunt operation. The mass contained massive gelatinous or organic tissues with a severely calcified pseudocapsule, and it was adjacent to the calcified but functioning graft. No fluid collections were noted. The histological findings were compatible with a seroma. No recurrence was noted on last follow-up 1 year postoperatively.

BACKGROUND: Intrathecal drug delivery systems (ITDDS) are an option for the treatment of chronic pain syndromes or spasticity that are refractory to other conservative measures; however, they are not without complications. Seroma formation is one of the possible complications following implantation of an ITDDS.
CASE REPORT: We present 3 separate cases of patients with recalcitrant seroma formation at their IT pump sites that were successfully treated with doxycycline pleurodesis.
CONCLUSIONS: Pump site seroma formation is a possible complication following implantation of an ITDDS. Typically,
