Delay-and-Sum Consistent Wavenumber Algorithm.

Fourier-domain beamforming methods offer a computationally efficient alternative to time-domain methods in ultrasound imaging. Among these, the wavenumber algorithm (WA) achieves fast image reconstruction from full-matrix capture (FMC) data but introduces amplitude distortions due to its inherent weighting. In this study, we present a modified Fourier-domain beamforming method that operates on FMC data and reproduces the amplitude response of the conventional delay-and-sum (DAS) method while maintaining the computational efficiency of WA. This is achieved through a derivation of a correction f

EEG based time and frequency dynamics analysis of visually induced motion sickness (VIMS).

3D movies are attracting the viewers as they can see the objects flying out of the screen. However, many viewers have reported various problems which are usually faced after watching 3D movies. These problems include visual fatigue, eye strain, headaches, dizziness, blurred vision or collectively may be termed as visually induced motion sickness (VIMS). This research focuses on the comparison between 3D passive technology with a conventional 2D technology to find that whether 3D is causing trouble in the viewers or not. For this purpose, an experiment was designed in which participants were ra

Real-Time Heterogeneous Helical Wave Spectrum Method for Transabdominal Passive Acoustic Mapping.

In focused ultrasound (FUS) therapy, passive acoustic mapping (PAM) with convex arrays is often employed to monitor the cavitation activity in the human abdomen, given their large acoustic window. However, phase aberration caused by the speed-of-sound (SoS) heterogeneity in the abdominal wall degrades the image quality, leading to inaccurate localization of the cavitation source and, hence, deteriorates the safety and efficacy level of the therapy. In this work, we derive the general solution to the wave equation in SoS heterogeneous media in polar coordinates. With the solution, we propose th

High-contrast ultrafast ultrasound power doppler imaging using subarray adaptive temporal autocorrelation with phase compensation.

Compared to the conventional zero-lag autocorrelation (R(0)) estimation which directly accumulates the power of Doppler ensembles for ultrafast ultrasound power Doppler (PD) imaging, first-lag autocorrelation (R(1)) enhances the noise suppression in PD imaging by exploiting the temporal coherence among ensembles. The temporal multiply-and-sum (TMAS) algorithm can further reduce the noise level by multiplying the correlation pairs in R(1) estimation before summation. Nonetheless, TMAS estimation often suffers from noticeable signal loss due to blood flow decorrelation in the presence of tempora

Simultaneous Coherent and Displacement Compounding for 2-D Noninvasive Carotid Strain Imaging: A Proof of Principle Study.

Arteriosclerosis results from lipid buildup in artery walls, leading to plaque formation, and is a leading cause of death. Plaque rupture can cause blood clots that might lead to a stroke. Distinguishing plaque types is a challenge, but ultrasound (US) elastography can help by assessing plaque composition based on strain values. Since the artery has a circular structure, an accurate axial and lateral displacement strategy is needed to derive the radial and circumferential strains. A high-precision lateral displacement is challenging due to the lack of phase information in the lateral direction

An intelligent signal processing strategy for accurate quantification of composite signals in background fluorescence-quenching lateral flow immunoassay for folic acid.

Background fluorescence-quenching lateral flow immunoassay (BF-LFIA) holds great potential for high-sensitivity detection owing to its unique “turn-on” mechanism. However, its characteristic composite signals, comprising “quenched dark zones” and “fluorescent bright zones,” exhibit high heterogeneity and dynamic evolution, severely restricting the accuracy and universality of automated quantification. To overcome this challenge, a portable analysis system was constructed and a dedicated intelligent image analysis framework is proposed. This framework integrates three core algorithm modules: (1

Preprocessing and Capability-Risk Coupling in an Event-Synchronized Dual-Frontend Speech Sensor System.

An intelligent speech sensor is often evaluated at recognition output, although acquisition and preprocessing also determine what reaches control. We examine this propagation in an event-synchronized dual-frontend system. A conditional cascade separates artifact availability, evidence formation, semantic conversion, and executor persistence. It decomposes how scheduled intent survives to the action boundary from raw audio through controlled motion. Paired recordings compare an INMP441-ESP32 interface with a USB interface. In an exploratory study, five speakers each delivered 30 Chinese utteran

Standardizing EEG preprocessing for cross-site integration - the CLEAN pipeline.

Electroencephalography (EEG) is a powerful tool for investigating neural processes underlying cognition and neuropsychiatric disorders. Yet, variability in EEG preprocessing strategies restricts reproducibility and data integration across study sites and laboratories, particularly in larger research consortia. This paper introduces the CLEAN-EEG preprocessing pipeline, designed to standardize data processing and documentation across multiple sites. The CLEAN pipeline is implemented in MATLAB using EEGLAB. It comprises three modular, script-based stages: main preprocessing (including down-sampl

[Realization of Heart Sound Envelope Extraction Implemented on LabVIEW Based on Hilbert-Huang Transform].

We proposed a research of a heart sound envelope extraction system in this paper. The system was implemented on LabVIEW based on the Hilbert-Huang transform (HHT). We firstly used the sound card to collect the heart sound, and then implemented the complete system program of signal acquisition, pretreatment and envelope extraction on LabVIEW based on the theory of HHT. Finally, we used a case to prove that the system could collect heart sound, preprocess and extract the envelope easily. The system was better to retain and show the characteristics of heart sound envelope, and its program and met

A method for heart sound classification using sample augmentation and INDANet.

The number of deaths due to cardiovascular diseases has been steadily increasing, with the majority occurring in underdeveloped regions. Doctors in less developed regions often have limited clinical experience to diagnose these diseases by listening heart sounds, whereas artificial intelligence can serve as a valuable tool to assist them in conducting auxiliary diagnoses. However, small samples and strong noise reduce the diagnosis accuracy. Therefore, in this paper, a novel method is put forward for heart sound classification, which integrates sample augmentation and injected noise dual atten

Augmenting single-lead ECG interpretation through QRS waveform decomposition and rotation.

Objective. The single-lead electrocardiogram (ECG) is widely used in watches and other wearable devices, with proven efficacy in cardiac rhythm interpretation. However, for morphological ECG interpretation, multiple viewpoints (leads) are generally necessary.Approach. This contribution introduces a novel methodology to rotate the QRS waveform of a single-lead ECG for estimating QRSs of different viewpoints that may be more favorable for morphological interpretation. This rotation can be achieved by recognizing that the three-dimensional QRS loop is approximately planar, and that the shape of a

Disentangled and Side-Aware Unsupervised Domain Adaptation for Cross-Dataset Subjective Tinnitus Diagnosis.

EEG-based tinnitus classification is a valuable tool for tinnitus diagnosis, research, and treatments. Most current works are limited to a single dataset where data patterns are similar. But EEG signals are highly non-stationary, resulting in model's poor generalization to new users, sessions or datasets. Thus, designing a model that can generalize to new datasets is beneficial and indispensable. To mitigate distribution discrepancy across datasets, we propose to achieve Disentangled and Side-aware Unsupervised Domain Adaptation (DSUDA) for cross-dataset tinnitus diagnosis. A disentangled auto

A scalogram tensor decomposition based ECG quality assessment.

ECG quality assessment is crucial for reducing false alarms and physician strain in automated diagnosis of cardiovascular diseases. Recent researches have focused on constructing an automatic noisy ECG record rejection mechanism. This work develops a noisy ECG record rejection system using scalogram and Tucker tensor decomposition. The system can reject ECG records, which cannot be analyzed or diagnosed. Scalogram of all 12‑lead ECG signals per subject are stacked to form a 3-way tensor. Tucker tensor decomposition is applied with empirical settings to obtain the core tensor. The core tensor i

Transforming Electrocardiogram to Participant-Level Diagnosis in Atrial Fibrillation Screening.

In recent developments, single-lead ECGs can now be captured outside clinical environments, opening opportunities for atrial fibrillation (AF) detection in the general population. However, this introduces significant challenges, including a very low AF prevalence rate in the captured datasets and a large number of ECGs per participant, which complicates the task of diagnosing participants effectively. In this study, a dynamic training approach which trained models to detect AF from ECGs, was introduced to incorporate more non-AF ECGs during training compared to a fixed approach, and the perform

Fast T Wave Detection Calibrated by Clinical Knowledge with Annotation of P and T Waves.

BACKGROUND: There are limited studies on the automatic detection of T waves in arrhythmic electrocardiogram (ECG) signals. This is perhaps because there is no available arrhythmia dataset with annotated T waves. There is a growing need to develop numerically-efficient algorithms that can accommodate the new trend of battery-driven ECG devices. Moreover, there is also a need to analyze long-term recorded signals in a reliable and time-efficient manner, therefore improving the diagnostic ability of mobile devices and point-of-care technologies. METHODS: Here, the T wave annotation of the well-k

Multiplane Calcium Imaging Reveals Disrupted Development of Network Topology in Zebrafish pcdh19 Mutants.

Functional brain networks self-assemble during development, although the molecular basis of network assembly is poorly understood. Protocadherin-19 (pcdh19) is a homophilic cell adhesion molecule that is linked to neurodevelopmental disorders, and influences multiple cellular and developmental events in zebrafish. Although loss of PCDH19 in humans and model organisms leads to functional deficits, the underlying network defects remain unknown. Here, we employ multiplane, resonant-scanning in vivo two-photon calcium imaging of developing zebrafish, and use graph theory to characterize the develo

Design of an Auscultation System for Phonoangiography and Monitoring of Carotid Artery Diseases.

Cerebrovascular diseases such as stenosis of the carotid artery are accountable for about 1 million death per year across Europe. Diagnostic tools like US, angiography or MRI require specific hardware and highly depend on the experience of the examining clinician. In contrast auscultation with a stethoscope can be used to screen for bruits - audible vascular sounds associated with turbulent blood flow. Dynamical changes in the flow due to pathological narrowing of the vessel can indicate the need for additional diagnostic investigations. A reliable auscultation setup is prerequisite to ensure

On Multiple AER Handshaking Channels Over High-Speed Bit-Serial Bidirectional LVDS Links With Flow-Control and Clock-Correction on Commercial FPGAs for Scalable Neuromorphic Systems.

Address event representation (AER) is a widely employed asynchronous technique for interchanging "neural spikes" between different hardware elements in neuromorphic systems. Each neuron or cell in a chip or a system is assigned an address (or ID), which is typically communicated through a high-speed digital bus, thus time-multiplexing a high number of neural connections. Conventional AER links use parallel physical wires together with a pair of handshaking signals (request and acknowledge). In this paper, we present a fully serial implementation using bidirectional SATA connectors with a pair
