BACKGROUND: Multiple myeloma (MM) is a plasma cell dyscrasia characterized by a clonal proliferation of plasma cells that produces a monoclonal protein. There are dermatologic disorders that have been associated with MM, such as amyloidosis, cryoglobulinemia, POEMS syndrome, normolipemic plane xanthoma, and plasmacytoma. The high volume of patients with MM seen at our institution presents an opportunity to define more extensively the spectrum of cutaneous diseases seen in concert with MM.
DESIGN: We reviewed 2357 pathology reports of all patients with a diagnosis of MM to find those who had u

The literature on the pattern of skin diseases in Saudi Arabia is scanty. We have attempted to analyze the pattern of skin diseases seen in the dermatology unit of Asir Central Hospital, Abha, Southern Saudi Arabia, during a 12-month period from March 1992 to March 1993. All new patients who were seen for dematological complaints in the skin clinics, emergency room or in the wards were studied prospectively. A total of 1285 dermatoses were diagnosed in 1223 patients during the 12-month study period. Out of the top 12 groups diseases, eczema/dermatitis (25.68%) came first, followed by viral inf

Extramammary Paget's disease (EMPD) of the scrotum is extremely rare. Most cases are found on the vulva or anus. It is generally accepted that EMPD is associated with an underlying carcinoma in situ. The lesion is located deep in between the dermal to epidermal layer. EMPD must be differentiated from benign papulosquamous disease, squamous cell carcinoma and melanoma. It can be managed by local excision and reconstruction with a skin graft or skin flap. Radiation and topical chemotherapy have also been used as alternative treatment strategies and are effective for local control.

Over the last few years, dermoscopy has been shown to be a useful tool in assisting the noninvasive diagnosis of various general dermatological disorders. In this article, we sought to provide an up-to-date practical overview on the use of dermoscopy in general dermatology by analysing the dermoscopic differential diagnosis of relatively common dermatological disorders grouped according to their clinical presentation, i.e. dermatoses presenting with erythematous-desquamative patches/plaques (plaque psoriasis, eczematous dermatitis, pityriasis rosea, mycosis fungoides and subacute cutaneous lup

Incarcerated individuals face many health care challenges, including limited sanitation, limitations of formularies, and difficulty obtaining routine medical care. This study characterizes skin conditions in incarcerated individuals in the Harris Health System in Houston, Texas. We performed a retrospective health record review on incarcerated inpatients and outpatients between 2011 and 2022, collecting data on diagnostic workups, diagnoses, and interventions. Skin and soft tissue infections and drug reactions (42.9%) were the most common inpatient conditions, compared with papulosquamous and

Individuals who are infected with Human Immunodeficiency Virus (HIV) suffer from numerous dermatoses. These disorders are often more severe than those observed in non HIV-infected persons afflicted with the same diseases. Lichen planus (LP) is a chronic inflammatory papulosquamous skin disorder. Herein, the diagnosis and treatment of a 40-year-old HIV+ Kenyan man afflicted with hypertrophic lichen planus (HLP) is described. In this case, lesions of HLP were widely distributed across the trunk and extremities, having become of such thickness on the dorsal surfaces of the hands and fingers as to

METHODS: The personal bio-data of all consecutive patients with skin diseases were documented. They were examined and the diagnoses, which were based on the history of presentation and physical examination, were recorded. Bacteriologic, mycologic, and histologic confirmations were obtained as appropriate

The aetiological diagnosis of a skin rash in a neonate requires an accurate clinical analysis. Smear examination of blister fluid is sometimes necessary. Macular-papular eruptions include erythema toxicum and generalized infections, viral as well as bacterial. Pustular eruptions include benign transient dermatoses and infections. Bullous eruptions include staphylococcal toxic syndromes and hereditary epidermolysis bullosa. So, whatever the clinical appearance of the rash, the main problem is to document an infection and to implement early treatment.

Lichen planus is a relatively common papulosquamous skin disease of unknown etiology. It is characterized by flat-topped, shiny pinkish-purple papules and plaques on the skin or mucous membranes. The zosteriform type is a rare variant of lichen planus with dermatomal or zonal distribution. A 29-year-old female patient was admitted to our clinic with a 2-month history of a pruritic eruption on the dermatomes on the left between T6-T10. Based on clinical and histological findings, the patient was diagnosed with zosteriform lichen planus. The patient had undergone extracorporeal shock wave lithot

Although reticulate pattern of pigmentation is a common characteristic of this spectrum
