Endophytic microbe Acinetobacter lwoffii MA1 alters the cadmium content in Spinacia oleracea through membrane proteins-mediated adsorption.

Vegetables such as spinach, celery, water spinach, and edible mushrooms are more prone to heavy metal accumulation. While the mechanism of heavy metal accumulation in vegetables and whether it is related to endophytic microorganisms remain unclear. In this study, we isolated an endophytic microorganism, A. lwoffii MA1, from spinach seeds that is tolerant to cadmium. Pot experiments demonstrated that enriching seeds with A. lwoffii MA1 increased the Cd content in spinach from 0.82 to 0.94 mg/kg, while microbial sequencing counts rose from 139.77 to 247.82, indicating that the addition of A. lwo

Green synthesized FeNPs ameliorate drought stress in Spinacia oleracea L. through improved photosynthetic capacity, redox balance, and antioxidant defense.

The present study was designed to highlight the ameliorative role of iron nanoparticles (FeNPs) against drought stress in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) plants. A pot experiment was performed in two-way completely randomize design with three replicates. For drought stress three levels were used by maintaining field capacity of the soil. This included control (100% field capacity), moderate drought stress (D1; 50% field capacity) and severe drought stress (D2; 25% field capacity). FeNPs synthesized by green method using rice straw were applied along with precursor FeCl3, used as Fe source for t

Hydrogen Sulfide-Mediated Polyamines and Sugar Changes Are Involved in Hydrogen Sulfide-Induced Drought Tolerance in Spinacia oleracea Seedlings.

Hydrogen sulfide (H2S) is a newly appreciated participant in physiological and biochemical regulation in plants. However, whether H2S is involved in the regulation of plant responses to drought stress remains unclear. Here, the role of H2S in the regulation of drought stress response in Spinacia oleracea seedlings is reported. First, drought stress dramatically decreased the relative water content (RWC) of leaves, photosynthesis, and the efficiency of PSII. Moreover, drought caused the accumulation of ROS and increased the MDA content. However, the application of NaHS counteracted the drought-

Foliar polystyrene nanoplastics modulate cadmium uptake and root-to-shoot translocation in hydroponic Spinacia oleracea L.: Time- and concentration-dependent responses.

The accumulation of plastics and heavy metals (HMs) in the environment has become a significant global concern due to their persistence, ubiquity, and potential ecological impacts. Atmospheric micro- and nanoplastics (MP, NP) are capable of undergoing long-range transport and can be deposited onto plant shoots through precipitation, thereby exposing aerial plant tissues to these particulate contaminants. In this study, the effects of varying concentrations of polystyrene nanoplastics (PSNPs) (0, 10, 50, 100, 200, and 400 mg L-1), applied via foliar spraying, and cadmium (Cd) (0 and 5 mg L-1) w

Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) Flavonoids Are Hydrolyzed During Digestion and Their Bioaccessibility Is Under Stronger Genetic Control Than Raw Material Content.

Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) is a commonly consumed crop with a diverse array of unique flavonoids. These molecules likely contribute to the health benefits associated with spinach consumption. However, little is known about the genetic diversity of these molecules, their bioaccessibility, and the heritability of these traits. We assembled a diversity panel of 30 F1 and open-pollinated spinach accessions and cultivated them under controlled conditions over two periods. Quantification of 39 flavonoids revealed that their concentration is largely influenced by environmental factors, and at lea

Short-term responses of Spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) to the individual and combinatorial effects of Nitrogen, Phosphorus and Potassium and silicon in the soil contaminated by boron.

Источник пометил публикацию как отозванную

While of lesser prevalence than boron (B) deficient soils, B-rich soils are important to study as they can cause B toxicity in the field and subsequently decrease crop yields in different regions of the world. We have conducted the present study to examine the role of the individual or combined application of silicon (Si) and NPK fertilizer in B-stressed spinach plants (Spinacia oleracea L.). S. oleracea seedlings were subjected to different NPK fertilizers, namely, low NPK (30 kg ha-2) and normal NPK (60 kg ha-2)], which were also supplemented by Si (3 mmol L-1), for varying levels of B in th

Insights on the translocation, metabolism, and subcellular distribution of mandipropamid enantiomers in spinach (Spinacia oleracea L.) and the effect of cultivation condition and heavy metal lead (Pb).

The fate of pesticides within crops is a critical determinant of environmental risk, influenced by various factors such as cultivation conditions and exogenous substances, which necessitate thorough investigation. This study examines the translocation, subcellular distribution, and metabolism of mandipropamid in spinach under different cultivation conditions and lead (Pb) stress. The pesticide is absorbed by roots (bioconcentration factors >1) and transported upward via symplast (high Kpw values in fresh roots), with limited downward translocation (translocation factors <1, αpt > 1).
