UNLABELLED: We demonstrated that vertebral fractures (VF) are commonly found in early SpA. Patients with VF had lower lumbar BMD than patients without VF. VF remained frequently 'unrecognized' and untreated. VF have been associated with more back pain, reduced Qol, and increased risk of future fractures which stresses the importance of recognition also in early stage SpA.

Sacroiliitis is an indispensable condition for the diagnosis of ankylosing spondylitis according to the present criteria and is usually diagnosed on standard anteroposterior radiographs of the pelvis. OBJECTIVE: To explore the association of spondylarthropathies HAL-B27 binding peptide.
METHODS: B27 molecules expressed on the B27-T2 mutant cell line do not have peptides. Such empty B27 molecules were not recognized by peptide-dependent monoclonal antibody, B27.M2. Positive B27.M2 reactivity resulted when B27-T2 cells were incubated with peptide RRKAMFEDI derived from Chlamydia hsp60. THe importance of each residue in RRKAMFEDI was analysed by testing analogs in which each of the 9 residues in the peptide was consecutively substituted by 19 other amino acids.

Undifferentiated spondylarthropathy is one of the common disease subsets in the group of so-called seronegative spondarthritides. It is not exactly known how often it differentiates into ankylosing spondylitis or other well-defined disease subsets over time. The present study was designed to find out the long-term outcome in this subset. Methotrexate (MTX) is one of the most effective treatments of rheumatoid arthritis. It has also been used in other conditions such as spondylarthropathies (SPA). Coexistent sarcoidosis and seronegative spondylarthropathy have rarely been reported. We add three new cases to the nine previously published. Two men and one woman with sarcoidosis met Amor's criteria for spondylarthropathy. The diagnosis of sarcoidosis was based on histologic findings in two cases and on roentgenographic and laboratory test findings in one case. BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Spondyloarthritis (SpA) is a well recognized extraintestinal manifestation of Inflammatory Bowel Diseases (IBDs), either Crohn's Disease(CD) or Ulcerative Colitis (UC). A much larger percentage of SpA patients have subclinical gut inflammation manifested either by endoscopic findings or by histology.
