Confidence in crisis? Understanding trust in government and public attitudes toward mandatory state health powers.

In response to the possibility of a bioterror attack using smallpox, many states have updated and revised their current public health laws in line with the Model Act, which would effectively give states the right to invoke mandatory state health powers, such as quarantine or vaccine. Previous studies have supported the importance of allying with the public in creating and implementing effective bioterror response policies. Historical case studies and recent research suggest that when the public is not supportive of government health policies, they may be less willing to comply. In this study w

Climatic and governance determinants of malaria transmission in Rivers State, Nigeria.

Malaria remains a significant public health challenge in tropical regions where environmental and governance factors influence transmission dynamics. This study examined how meteorological conditions and shifts in government policy affect malaria incidence in Rivers State from 2007 to 2021. Poisson, quasi-Poisson, and negative binomial models were applied to identify significant environmental predictors, followed by comparison with a SARIMAX model to evaluate forecasting performance. The quasi-Poisson model provided the best fit among count models; however, SARIMAX demonstrated superior predic

A comprehensive review of state laws that govern the distribution and possession of drug use equipment in the United States.

The United States continues to experience a large amount of drug-related harm, including high rates of both overdose mortality and harms associated with lack of access to new drug use equipment such as syringes and pipes. These harms include the spread of bloodborne disease as well as endocarditis, osteomyelitis, and other skin and soft tissue infections. Laws that prohibit or restrict access to drug use equipment may increase these harms. This manuscript provides a comprehensive legal review of laws that criminalize or otherwise restrict the distribution and possession of equipment for both i

Multiple Intrinsic Timescales Govern Distinct Brain States in Human Sleep.

Human sleep exhibits multiple, recurrent temporal regularities, ranging from circadian rhythms to sleep stage cycles and neuronal oscillations during nonrapid eye movement sleep. Moreover, recent evidence revealed a functional role of aperiodic activity, which reliably discriminates different sleep stages. Aperiodic activity is commonly defined as the spectral slope χ of the 1/frequency (1/fχ) decay function of the electrophysiological power spectrum. However, several lines of inquiry now indicate that the aperiodic component of the power spectrum might be better characterized by a superpositi

A stromal-state dichotomy governs recalcitrance or remission in inflammatory bowel disease.

UNLABELLED: Inflammatory bowel diseases (IBD) remain a relapsing, treatment-refractory disorder marked by progressive tissue injury and inflammation despite expanding immune-targeted therapies. We established a prospective cohort integrating stromal biobanking, functional phenotyping, cross-cohort benchmarking, and outcome modeling to define disease-anchored cellular states. Colonic myofibroblasts from 34 individuals spanning health, ulcerative colitis, and Crohn's disease resolved into two dominant states : inflammatory ( IMFs ) and quiescent ( QMFs ) myofibroblasts. QMF predominance forecast
