Steroid rosacea is a facial dermatitis clinically resembling acne rosacea. Fluorinated topical steroids have been implicated as the cause or precipitating factor in previous case reports mainly involving an adult population. Four cases of pediatric acne rosacea associated with the use of topical fluorinated glucocorticosteroids are described. The process worsened during the two weeks following steroid cessation. We recommend that fluorinated glucocorticosteroids should not be used on the face of infants and children.

Desonide, a non-fluorinated topical corticosteroid (16-alpha-hydroxyprednisolone acetonide), is compared with its fluorinated analogue, triamcinolone acetonide, as to vasoconstriction ability and epidermal penetration rate. The influence of corticosteroids on the tone of isolated smooth muscle (vas deferens of the rat) is reported. Corticoids alone are without effect on the muscle tone, but they potentiate the constrictor effect of catecholamines. Isolated congenital heart block is strongly associated with anti-Ro antibodies. It occurs in 2% of anti-Ro antibody positive pregnancies with a recurrence rate of 17-19%. Autoimmune congenital atrioventricular block (CAVB) has been extensively studied in recent decades. This report deals with a 5-month-old infant who at the age of 2 months was treated with topical fluorinated steroids for dermatitis in the diaper area. The treatment was continued for about 2 months. Some weeks later, multiple oval and round dark brown nodules developed in the inguinogenital areas. Histologic examination of these lesions revealed intense granulomatous infiltration in the upper dermis that consisted of lymphocytes, neutrophilic and eosinophilic granulocytes, and histiocytes. After steroid therapy was discontinued, the nodules slowly disappeared.

Transplacental transfer of maternal anti-Ro and/or anti-La autoantibodies can result in fetal cardiac disease, including congenital heart block and cardiomyopathy, called cardiac neonatal lupus (NL). Granuloma Gluteale Infantum (GGI) is a rare condition of unclear etiology,[1] presenting as asymptomatic cherry red nodules in the diaper area appearing in the setting of primary irritant contact dermatitis.[2] A 50 day old infant with GGI is presented to emphasize that the condition may be easily missed, and that it may result from the misuse of fluorinated topical steroids used to treat a rash in the diaper area. This is the first case reported from Saudi Arabia.

Sixty-eight patients with histologically diagnosed typical vulvar dystrophies were treated with local administration of steroids.
