PURPOSE: International guidelines recommend fertility counseling at diagnosis for all women with cancer of child-bearing potential, yet whether gestational surrogacy (GS) is included in such counseling is not clear, nor is whether and what proportion of survivors are aware of GS. We assessed the counseling and use of GS, and predictors of oncologist-provided GS counseling among female cancer survivors.
METHODS: A survey on fertility and GS counseling was distributed via national advocacy organizations (April-November 2024). Descriptive statistics and logistic regression evaluated predictors o

The purpose of this qualitative study was to explore the experiences of commissioning parents (CPs) who travel abroad for surrogacy, paying attention to motivations, processes, and sources of social support. The authors recruited 10 CPs and used semistructured, in-depth interviews to illicit storytelling. Data analysis revealed primary themes around CPs' experiences pre-surrogacy, during surrogacy, and post-surrogacy. International surrogacy was described as a long and arduous journey only undertaken after multiple failed attempts at "natural" conception. Prior to traveling abroad, CPs engaged

This article examines a recent Russian surrogacy case through a bioethical and socio-legal lens to assess the regulation of commercial surrogacy, the public response it generated, and the role of bioethics in contemporary Russian debate. Focusing on a criminal case involving medical professionals accused of child trafficking in connection with cross-border surrogacy, the article argues that the controversy exposed deep tensions among law, medicine, religion, public policy, and child protection. It shows that public discussion centred largely on legal control, national security, and reproductiv

State regulation of reproductive practices secure the heterosexual infrastructure of kinship through means that include elitization, institutional hostility, and plain criminalization. This article draws on personal experiences of gay fathers through transnational gestational surrogacy in Spain to show the extent to which that is the case even in those contexts where some gay and lesbian kinship rights are available. Public and academic debates on the possible regulation of gestational surrogacy will be analyzed through the lens of Gayle Rubin's intervention in the sex wars that divided femini

PURPOSE: Surrogate end points are commonly used to estimate treatment efficacy in clinical studies of chronic lymphocytic leukemia (CLL). This patient- and trial-level analysis describes the correlation between progression-free survival (PFS) and minimal residual disease (MRD) with overall survival (OS) in first-line trials for CLL.
PATIENTS AND METHODS: First, patient-level correlation was confirmed using source data from 12 frontline German CLL Study Group (GCLLSG)-trials. Additionally, a joint-frailty copula model was fitted to validate correlation in the setting of targeted therapies (TT)

Practices involving assisted reproductive technologies (ARTs) presuppose the allocation of procreative responsibilities of various types and degrees among clinical embryologists, fertility doctors, and nonmedical individuals such as gamete bank staff and attorneys, while typically exempting them from parental rights and obligations. These individuals are appropriately regarded as third-party participants in assisted reproductive technology (ART) procedures. Surrogates, however, engage in gestational labour which implies a sustained, embodied, and relational form of care fundamentally distinct

This comprehensive review examines the multifaceted landscape of surrogacy, a revolutionary treatment for infertility. The study examines historical origins, shifting trends, medical considerations, psychological implications, legal complexities, international variations, and ethical dilemmas surrounding surrogacy. With the advent of assisted reproductive technology, gestational surrogacy allows intended parents a genetic connection to their child. Medical facets encompass indications for gestational surrogacy, drawing attention to maternal health risks and infertility factors. Evidence indica

BACKGROUND: Surrogacy is a form of assisted human reproduction whereby a surrogate woman carries a pregnancy for a commissioning couple or individual. There are two types of surrogacy, traditional and gestational. Worldwide we have seen a rapid increase in the use of surrogacy. Despite this, there is a lack of consensus internationally on the laws governing surrogacy. In Ireland, surrogacy remains largely unregulated. Currently, there is no specific legislation for surrogacy. This review aims to discuss its current regulatory status and associated ethical issues.

Rokitansky syndrome is a developmental defect characterized by agenesis of the uterus and vagina but normal gonads and secondary sexual characters. It is not commonly transmitted as a dominant genetic trait. Surrogacy, which is legally and ethically accepted in the UK and other countries, has made it possible for the patients with this syndrome to have their own genetic children. Six patients with Rokitansky syndrome underwent 11 ovarian stimulation cycles that resulted in 11 fresh and three frozen embryo transfer procedures into six prospective surrogate mothers. Both commissioning and surrog

More than forty years after the first baby's birth through in vitro fertilization, innovations in the field of human reproduction have experienced a significant growth increase. Those first techniques have led evolved to others that push the biological limits of reproduction. Recent developments in genomic editing -particularly, CRISPR/Cas9 technology- had leaded an intense ethical, social and legal discussion about the boundaries limits of the new models of human reproduction, and their consequences in recent years. The number of conflicting legal interests suggests that the application of th

Gestational surrogacy, made possible with the introduction of in vitro fertilization, has expanded family building options while introducing novel challenges to established legal principles involving constitutional, contract, and family law as well as duty of care and negligence. Both legislatures and courts have grappled with how to apply these sometimes-competing areas of law to protect participants and professionals, and to create legally secure families. This article explores the following: the Constitutionally protected rights of privacy and reproductive autonomy of gestational surrogates

This study addresses various outcomes and follow-up of children born after IVF-surrogacy. Recent reports on perinatal outcome after IVF-surrogacy and on data generated by the Society of Assisted Reproductive Technology (SART) Registry between 1991 and 1995 were examined. A review of recently published perinatal outcomes of children born after IVF-surrogacy, including the developmental information of 110 children after the first 2 years of life, was undertaken. The birth weights for singleton pregnancies following IVF-surrogacy and IVF were similar, whereas the birth weights of twins and triple

BACKGROUND: Surrogacy is considered to be a method that allows infertile couples to have a child with the assistance of a third party, known as the surrogate mother. Two forms exist: traditional surrogacy, in which the surrogate provides the oocyte and is thus genetically related to the newborn, and gestational surrogacy, in which no genetic link is present. Over recent decades, the use of surrogacy has markedly increased, highlighting the need to evaluate its potential benefits and risks. This scoping review aims to summarize maternal, pregnancy, and neonatal outcomes reported in gestational

Modern medicine has revolutionized family planning. Remarkably, women1 can carry to term embryos with whom they share no genetic connection, a feat made possible through egg donation and/or gestational surrogacy. Our reproductive systems evolved to accommodate embryos that are 50% related to the carrier, not 0% related. Here, we apply evolutionary theory to explain how and why pregnancy is riskier with an unrelated embryo. When a woman gestates an unrelated embryo, she is significantly more likely to develop preeclampsia and other diseases above and beyond the known risks associated with advan

Gestational surrogacy covers three different and often mixed up situations. In the first case (that of full surrogacy), the surrogate mother carries and has the baby anonymously. The child has been conceived by artificial insemination with her own oocyte and the help of the financing father, who has legally recognised the child before birth. This constitutes surrogacy motherhood practice, which was condemned by a judgment of the French Court of Cassation, in 1991. In the second case (gestational surrogacy), the mother only carries an embryo conceived in vitro by the biological parents to whom
