Outcomes of Glenoid Labral Repair Using All-Suture Anchors.

BACKGROUND: In recent years, innovation in arthroscopic glenoid labral repair techniques has included the development of all-suture anchors. There are multiple potential advantages of all-suture anchors, including decreased bone removal, anchor migration, synovitis/chondral injury, and bone reaction. Despite these potential advantages, few studies have examined clinical outcomes of glenoid labral repair with all-suture anchors. PURPOSE: To evaluate patient-reported and return-to-sport outcomes of arthroscopic glenoid labral repairs using all-suture anchors. STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level o

Internal Fixation of Osteochondritis Dissecans Using PushLock Suture Anchors.

Osteochondritis dissecans (OCD) of the knee is a subchondral bone abnormality that results in the separation of the articular cartilage and bone with subsequent progression to osteoarthritis. Unstable OCD lesions should undergo fixation to preserve the natural contour of the articular surface. Although several fixation procedures have been reported, the appropriate procedure remains unknown. Because the bony portion of the OCD lesion is usually thin, it is difficult to fix firmly with conventional methods. We began fixing OCD lesions with knotless PushLock anchors and sutures and have obtained

Editorial Commentary: Choose Wisely: Rotator Cuff All-Suture Anchors.

The defining feature of a surgeon's professional practice is clinical decision making coupled with surgical execution. Surgeons' decisions are continually being scrutinized, and clinicians are trained to consult and interpret the peer-reviewed literature in formulating a treatment plan. An important decision in the surgical episode of care is which implant(s) will be used, and surgeons should feel comfortable defending their implant choices. Understanding the finer details of a bench study is important in formulating a clinical opinion of a biomechanical investigation of surgical implants. The

Biomechanical Analysis of All-Suture Suture Anchor Fixation Compared With Conventional Suture Anchors and Interference Screws for Biceps Tenodesis.

PURPOSE: To compare the biomechanical properties of all-suture suture anchors (ASSAs) with conventional interference screws (CISs) and conventional suture anchors (CSAs) for long head of the biceps tendon fixation during proximal biceps tenodesis (BT). METHODS: We randomized 21 fresh-frozen human cadaveric shoulders into 3 subpectoral BT treatment groups: ASSA, CSA, and CIS. Each construct was cyclically loaded from 5 to 70 N for 500 cycles (1 Hz). All specimens that survived cyclic loading were then pulled to failure (1 mm/s). Elongation, maximum load, energy, and failure mode were recorded.

Biomechanical Evaluation of Proximal Hamstring Repair: All-Suture Anchor Versus Titanium Suture Anchor.

BACKGROUND: Proximal hamstring avulsions are severe tendon injuries and are commonly sports-related. Open and endoscopic techniques as well as different anchor configurations have already been described for proximal hamstring repair. Novel all-suture anchors have been developed to provide decreased bone loss during placement and reduced occupied bone volume when compared with titanium suture anchors. HYPOTHESIS: Complete proximal hamstring avulsions repaired with all-suture anchors will demonstrate equal load to failure and comparable displacement under cyclic loading when compared with titan

Distal Bicep Tendon Repair Utilizing Knotless Retensionable All-Suture Anchors.

The incidence of distal bicep tendon ruptures is low, yet surgical repair is important to restore function. The retensionable knotless distal biceps tendon repair with the all-suture anchor technique involves placing 2 knotless all-suture anchors in the radial tuberosity. Repair sutures are passed through and around the distal biceps tendon, and a tensioning strand is tightened to reduce the tendon down to the bone. One limitation of this technique is that the biomechanical strength utilizing a suture anchor technique has a lower load to failure compared to the classic cortical button techniqu

Comparing Biomechanical Properties of Bioabsorbable Suture Anchors: A Comprehensive Review.

Suture anchors (SAs) are medical devices used to connect soft tissue to bone. Traditionally these were made of metal; however, in the past few decades, bio-absorbable suture anchors have been created to overcome revision surgeries and other complications caused by metallic SAs. This systematic review aims to analyze the biomechanical properties of these SAs to gain a better understanding of their safety and utilization. A comprehensive systematic review that adhered to the PRISMA guidelines was conducted. Primary outcomes were that the pull-out strength of SAs, the rate of degradation secondar

Cytotoxicity and biomechanics of suture anchors used in labral repairs.

BACKGROUND: Biodegradable suture anchors are associated with higher redislocation rates. This study examined whether the biocompatibility and/or biomechanical properties of suture anchors contribute to the increase in complications. METHODS: Human glenohumeral capsule cells were cultured with 4 types of suture anchors, Opus LabraFix (titanium alloy; ArthroCare, Austin, TX, USA), PushLock (poly-ether-ether-ketone; Arthrex, Naples, FL, USA), BioKnotless (poly-l-lactic acid; DePuy Mitek, Warsaw, IN, USA), and Suretac II (polyglycolic acid; Smith & Nephew, London, UK), to measure cell viability a

Arthroscopic biceps tenodesis using suture anchors through the subclavian portal.

Biceps tenodesis is typically performed through an open anterior incision. Even when an arthroscopic rotator cuff repair is performed, an open procedure is typically performed to address the biceps rupture or subluxation. Recently, there has been great interest in performing this procedure arthroscopically. Techniques have included using an interference screw or 2 suture anchors through an anterior cannula. If the biceps is partially ruptured or subluxated and the proximal end is still visible in the joint, a biceps tenodesis can be performed using standard arthroscopic techniques and suture a
