The major objective of this study was to investigate the anti-chronic nonbacterial prostatitis (CNP) mechanism of T. patula by metabolomics and network pharmacology. The study demonstrated that the flavonoids and polysaccharides of T. patula could alleviate prostatitis by improving the level of DHT, reducing the secretion of PSA and TNF-α. Besides, both could enhance Na+/K+-ATPase activity, decrease the O2 consumption, CO2 production, heat production, energy expenditure of rats and promote respiratory exchange ratio of rats. Up to 28 potential biomarkers and 8 key metabolic pathways related to

Botanical fungicides comprise attractive alternatives to chemical fungicides because of their environmental compatibility. Flavonoids extracted from Tagetes erecta L. have an inhibitory effect on fusarium wilt in watermelons caused by Fusarium oxysporum f. sp. niveum (FON). In this study, we synthesized one of these flavonoids, 2,5-dicyclopentylidene cyclopentanone (Tagetes erecta L. fungicide (TEF)) and assessed its activity against FON. In vitro, TEF inhibited FON growth and killed FON cells directly. TEF also affected FON cell physiology and mycelial structure. In watermelon plants with fus

Rheumatoid arthritis (RA) poses a serious health problem as a chronic autoimmune joint disease with significant mortality and morbidity. Proinflammatory cytokines TNF-α and IL-1β, reactive oxygen species (ROS), and activated CD4(+) T-cells play key roles in the progression of arthritis. The aim of the study is to evaluate the in vitro and in vivo immunomodulatory and anti-arthritic effect of flavonoid patuletin, isolated from Tagetes patula. ELISA was applied for quantification of TNF-α and IL-1β. Intracellular and extracellular ROS production from phagocytes was measured by the chemiluminesce

Tagetes erecta L. is widely studied for its flower-derived lutein, which is known for promoting eye health. However, its roots contain uniquely thiophenes-absent from the flowers and leaves-which exhibit valuable bioactivity. Our recent study has reported on patent applications related to their efficacy in modulating benign prostatic hyperplasia, underscoring their pharmaceutical and functional potential. Despite this, no optimized extraction or quality evaluation of thiophene-rich T. erecta roots has been reported. This study aimed to establish a reliable extraction strategy for thiophene-ric

Excessive use of petroleum products has led to increased anthracene contamination in ecosystems, highlighting the need for effective monitoring and remediation strategies. This study evaluated the phytoremediation potential of three ornamental plant species-Epipremnum aureum, Tagetes erecta, and Portulaca grandiflora-for anthracene-contaminated soil. After 60 days of exposure to anthracene at concentrations of 25, 50, and 100 mg kg-1, various parameters including growth, chlorophyll content, malondialdehyde (MDA) levels, and oxidative stress-related enzyme activity-were evaluated. Results reve

Sulfur dioxide (SO2) exposure is associated with increased risk of various damages to plants. However, little is known about the defense response in ornamental plants. In this study, an artificial fumigation protocol was carried out to study the defense potential of the glutathione (GSH)-ascorbate (AsA) dependent detoxification pathway to SO2 exposure in Tagetes erecta. The results show that when the plants were exposed to different doses of SO2 (0, 15, 30, 50 or 80 mg m(-3)) for different times (6, 12, 18, 24 or 33 h), SO2 induced oxidative stress was confirmed by the increased hydrogen perox

Soil contamination with heavy metals severely threatens food security and human health worldwide. Heavy metal contamination must be controlled through sustainable and economical technologies. To enhance the phytoextraction of lead (Pb), the plants with resistance against Pb stress and maximum production of biomass could serve as a potential candidate for the phytoremediation of Pb-contaminated soils. The current study was conducted to illuminate the effect of gibberellic acid (GA3), indole acetic acid (IAA), and fertilizers (NPK) on plant growth and Pb phytoextraction capabilities of Tagetes m

Tagetes lucida Cav. (Asteraceae) is an ancient medicinal plant commonly used to alleviate pain. Nevertheless, scientific studies validating this property are lacking in the literature. Animal models of pain were used to evaluate the antinociceptive and anti-inflammatory activities of T. lucida essential oil (TLEO) and a bioactive metabolite. The chemical constitution and possible toxicity of the extract and the mechanism of action of β-caryophyllene were also explored. Temporal course curves and dose-response graphics were generated using TLEO (0.1-10 mg/kg or 3.16-31.62 mg/kg) and β-caryophyl

Marigold (Tagetes spp.), a widely cultivated popular ornamental plant that is highly susceptible to fungal diseases, particularly leaf spot and stem wilt, which can substantially reduce its ornamental and economic value. This study aimed to identify the causal pathogens responsible for these diseases and evaluate the efficacy of selected antifungal agents against them. The causal agent of leaf spot was identified as Alternaria alternata, whereas stem wilt was caused by the Fusarium solani species complex (FSSC), based on Koch's postulates, morphological characterization, and molecular identifi

In recent years, synthetic antioxidants that are widely used in foods have been shown to cause detrimental health effects, and there has been growing interest in antioxidants realised from natural plant extracts. In this study, we investigate the potential effects of natural antioxidant components extracted from the forage plant marigold on the oxidative stability of soybean oil. First, HPLC-Q-TOF-MS/MS was used with 1,1-diphenyl-2-picrylhydrazyl (DPPH) to screen and identify potential antioxidant components in marigold. Four main antioxidant components were identified, including quercetagetin

BACKGROUND: Endemic fluorosis remains a major public health issue in many countries. Fluoride can cause abnormalities in osteoblast proliferation and activation, leading to skeletal fluorosis. However, its detailed molecular mechanism remains unclear. Based on a previous study, the aim of this study is to explore the role of miRNA in osteoblast activation of skeletal fluorosis via targeting of Cyclin D1.
METHODS: A population study of coal-burning fluorosis and in vitro experiments were performed in this study. Urine fluoride (UF) concentrations of the participants were determined using a nat

Metastatic spinal tumors are usually quite difficult to treat. In patients with metastatic spinal tumors, conventional radiotherapy fails to relieve pain in 20-30% of cases and open surgery often causes considerable trauma and complications, which delays treatment of the primary disease. Percutaneous vertebroplasty (PVP) is considered to be useful in achieving rapid pain control and preventing further vertebral collapse due to spinal metastasis. However, symptoms of intraspinal neural compression can be contraindications to PVP. To overcome this problem, we performed PVP following targeted bip
