Phytochemical investigation, antibacterial, and ameliorative potential effects of Tamarix nilotica on LPS-induced acute lung injury model in mice.

Acute lung injury (ALI) is a serious illness with a high mortality rate of 40-60%. It is characterised by systemic inflammatory processes and oxidative stress. Gram-negative bacterial infections are the major cause of ALI, and lipopolysaccharide (LPS) is the major stimulus for the release of inflammatory mediators. Hence, there is an urgent need to develop new therapies which ameliorate ALI and prevent its serious consequences. The Middle Eastern native plant Tamarix nilotica (Ehrenb) Bunge belongs to the family Tamaricaceae, which exhibits strong anti-inflammatory and antioxidant effects. Thu

Assessment of the Antivirulence Potential of Tamarix aphylla Ethanolic Extract against Multidrug-Resistant Streptococcus mutans Isolated from Iraqi Patients.

Halophytes have long been used for medicinal purposes. However, their use was entirely empirical, with no knowledge of the bioactive compounds. The plant Tamarix aphylla L. has not drawn the deserving attention for its phytochemical and bioactive explorations, but available data expressed its needs to be attended for its potential. The Streptococcus mutans SpaP gene (cell-surface antigen) mediates the binding of these bacteria to tooth surfaces. The growing problem of antibiotic resistance triggered the research on alternative antimicrobial approaches. Our study aims to explore the activity of

Flavonoid substituted polysaccharides from Tamarix chinensis Lour. alleviate H1N1-induced acute lung injury via inhibiting complement system.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Viral pneumonia is a highly pathogenic respiratory infectious disease associated with excessive activation of the complement system. Our previous studies found that the anticomplement polysaccharides from some medicinal plants could significantly alleviate H1N1-induced acute lung injury (H1N1-ALI). The leaves and twigs of Tamarix chinensis Lour. are traditionally used as a Chinese medicine Xiheliu for treating inflammatory disorders. Interestingly, its crude polysaccharides (MBAP90) showed potent anticomplement activity in vitro. AIM OF THE STUDY: To evaluate t

Antioxidant and Anticancer Activity of Tamarix Indica Aerial Extracts against DMBA/croton Oil-Induced Skin Carcinogenesis in Mice.

BACKGROUND: The largest organ, skin, acts as the body's first line of protection against various environmental threats and harmful substances, which may be carcinogenic. The widespread acceptance of conventional chemotherapy has been hindered by its high cost and severe side effects, which have encouraged the need for alternatives. The phytoconstituents produced by plants promise to prevent skin carcinogenesis by targeting multiple steps. They are widely accepted, safe, and have few side effects. OBJECTIVE: The current study aimed to determine the antitumor potential of the aerial extracts of

Hot and cold deserts as eco-evolutionary arenas for understanding plant resistance to multiple abiotic stressors.

During their long evolutionary history, land plants have evolved a range of adaptations to different abiotic stressors. These help explain present-day diversity and distribution patterns, as well as the potential resilience of natural and agricultural systems to a changing climate. Most previous research has focused on adaptation to individual stressors and much less is known about how plants deal with exposure to multiple abiotic stressors. Consequently, the evolutionary processes leading to abiotic stress polyresistance (i.e. resistance to multiple abiotic stressors) remain poorly understood

Evaluation of Olea europaea L. and Tamarix aphylla leaves extracts in the management of pain, pyrexia and allergy in mice and rats.

A huge amount of information, related to herbals is based exclusively on historical beliefs. Therefore, we aim to provide scientific validation for some of the traditional uses attributed to Olea europaea (OE) and Tamarix aphylla (TA). To achieve this, we conducted experiments to ensure the safety of the aqueous extract of OE and the methanolic extract of TA. Subsequently, we investigated the peripheral and central antinociceptive activity, antipyretic properties, and anti-allergic activities using albino mice and Wistar rats. Both plant extracts at the doses of 100, 200 and 400 mg produced po

The Impacts of Soil Fertility and Salinity on Soil Nitrogen Dynamics Mediated by the Soil Microbial Community Beneath the Halophytic Shrub Tamarisk.

Nitrogen (N) is one of the most common limiting nutrients for primary production in terrestrial ecosystems. Soil microbes transform organic N into inorganic N, which is available to plants, but soil microbe activity in drylands is sometimes critically suppressed by environmental factors, such as low soil substrate availability or high salinity. Tamarisk (Tamarix spp.) is a halophytic shrub species that is widely distributed in the drylands of China; it produces litter enriched in nutrients and salts that are thought to increase soil fertility and salinity under its crown. To elucidate the effe
