Tamarindus indica Shells Powder Enhances Growth Performance, Hemato-Biochemical Parameters, Nutrient Utilization, and Gut Health in Broiler Chickens.

Broiler production has frequently faced economic losses due to infectious diseases caused by pathogenic microorganisms. These problems are commonly resolved using antibiotics, but doing so could lead to antibiotic resistance and impair food safety. This study evaluated the effects of a tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) shell powder (TSP) supplementation on the growth performance and overall health status in broiler chickens. A total of 375 one-day-old male Ross 308 broilers were randomly assigned to five dietary treatment groups in a completely randomized design. Broilers received either a basal

Chemopreventive effects of a Tamarindus indica fruit extract against colon carcinogenesis depends on the dietary cholesterol levels in hamsters.

Tamarind has significant antioxidant potential. We showed that tamarind protects hypercholesterolemic hamsters from atherosclerosis. Hypercholesterolemia might increase the risk of colon cancer. We investigated whether tamarind extract modulates the risk of colon cancer in hypercholesterolemic hamsters. Hamsters (n = 64) were given tamarind and a hypercholesterolemic diet for 8 weeks. The groups were the control, tamarind treatment, hypercholesterolemic, and hypercholesterolemic treated with tamarind groups. Half of each group was exposed to the carcinogen dimethylhydrazine (DMH) at the 8th we

Tamarind Seed (Tamarindus indica) Extract Ameliorates Adjuvant-Induced Arthritis via Regulating the Mediators of Cartilage/Bone Degeneration, Inflammation and Oxidative Stress.

Medicinal plants are employed in the treatment of human ailments from time immemorial. Several studies have validated the use of medicinal plant products in arthritis treatment. Arthritis is a joint disorder affecting subchondral bone and cartilage. Degradation of cartilage is principally mediated by enzymes like matrix metalloproteinases (MMPs), hyaluronidases (HAase), aggrecanases and exoglycosidases. These enzymes act upon collagen, hyaluronan and aggrecan of cartilage respectively, which would in turn activate bone deteriorating enzymes like cathepsins and tartrate resistant acid phosphata

Evaluation of phytochemicals from Tamarindus indica as a potential catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT) inhibitor: an in-silico approach for Parkinson's disease.

Dopamine is an essential neurotransmitter found in both vertebrates and invertebrates which regulates motor coordination, cognition, emotional processing, and autonomic functions. Dopamine is biosynthesized from L-tyrosine and is primarily metabolized by catechol-O-methyltransferase (COMT), which regulates its concentration and ensures proper synaptic signalling within the basal ganglia. Dopamine deficiency, the hallmark of Parkinson’s disease, is a progressive neurodegenerative disorder caused by the loss of dopaminergic neurons in the substantia nigra pars compacta. To alleviate dopamine def

Effect of the extract of the tamarind (Tamarindus indica) fruit on the complement system: studies in vitro and in hamsters submitted to a cholesterol-enriched diet.

This work evaluated a crude hydroalcoholic extract (ExT) from the pulp of the tamarind (Tamarindus indica) fruit as a source of compounds active on the complement system (CS) in vitro. ExT, previously characterized by other authors, had time and concentration dependent effects on the lytic activity of the CS. The activity of 0.8 mg/mL of the extract on the classical/lectin pathways (CP/LP) increased after 30 min of pre-incubation, while that of the alternative pathway (AP) decreased after 15 min at 1mg/mL. Since the CS is a mediator of inflammation, studies were also made in vivo, taking advan

Differential volatile-omics analysis for tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) and aroma-active compounds identification via DMU-SPME-GC-MS method.

The dual-mode unity solid-phase microextraction (DMU-SPME) method was assessed and optimized using tamarind concentrate juice (TCJ) to improve the extraction of aroma-active compounds. DMU-SPME was systematically compared with conventional extraction techniques, including headspace solid-phase microextraction (HS-SPME) and solvent-assisted flavor evaporation (SAFE). GC-MS analysis revealed that DMU-SPME identified 84 volatile compounds, providing a more comprehensive volatile profile of tamarind than HS-SPME or SAFE. Aroma Extract Dilution Analysis (AEDA) further revealed that DMU-SPME detecte

Structural elucidation and α-amylase/α-glucosidase inhibition properties of xyloglucan and RG-I types polysaccharides from tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) pulp.

A neutral (TFP-WA) and an acidic polysaccharide (TFP-0.2 A) were purified from tamarind (Tamarindus indica) pulp. The fine structures of the isolated polysaccharides were elucidated by integrated sequential partial acid hydrolysis, enzymatic hydrolysis, and multiple analytical techniques. As a result, the TFP-WA is composed of repeating →4)-α-Xylp-(1 → 4)-β-Glcp-(1 → residues in the backbone, and branched at O-6 of Glcp residues with linear arabinoxylan and galactan motifs. Whereas, TFP-0.2 A possesses a rhamnogalacturonan-I (RG-I) backbone composed of repeating →2)-α-Rhap-(1 → 4)-α-GalpA-(1 →

Extending the separation space in online comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography-mass spectrometry through second-dimension column switching: Application to Tamarindus indica L.

The complete characterization of food samples is often hampered by the polarity range of their constituents. Although comprehensive two-dimensional liquid chromatography (LC × LC) offers an enhanced separation space compared to one-dimensional LC, a single pair of columns is often unable to retain compounds across this entire range, leaving part of the separation space unused. In this work, an online multi-two-dimensional (2D) LC × LC method was developed to extend the separation space achievable with LC × LC, using tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) pericarp as a chemically diverse model sample.

From in silico screening to experimental verification: Identification of novel umami peptides from tamarind (Tamarindus indica L.) seed proteins and their validation in enzymatic hydrolysates.

Umami peptides are key contributors to food flavor enhancement. In this study, novel umami peptides from tamarind seed proteins were identified using an integrated strategy combining in silico screening and experimental validation. A virtual peptide library was screened based on physicochemical properties and bioactivity, yielding six candidates (VSDY, DGIDF, AKNVSDYL, YNDPHC, VPPD, and NDPHCQY). Molecular docking and dynamics simulations revealed stable binding to the umami receptor T1R1/T1R3 via hydrogen bonding and hydrophobic interactions, with binding affinities of -7.9 to -8.8 kcal/mol.

Antioxidant or pro-oxidant and glutathione transferase P1-1 inhibiting activities for Tamarindus indica seeds and their cytotoxic effect on MCF-7 cancer cell line.

BACKGROUND: The multidrug resistance (MDR) of cancer cells is a major obstacle to cancer treatment. Glutathione S-transferase Pi (GSTP1-1) catalyzes the conjugation of glutathione with anticancer drugs and therefore reduces their efficacy. Phenolic compounds have the potential to inhibit GST P1-1 activity, which is a promising goal to overcome MDR and increase the efficacy of chemotherapy. RESULTS: Three fractions (dichloromethane, ethyl acetate, and n-butanol) were prepared from Tamarindus indica seeds to determine their phenolic and flavonoid properties as well as their antioxidant/pro-oxid
