Although teleradiology systems are available commercially, they are expensive ($30,000), and different makes are incompatible with each other, making them unusable for interhospital image transfers. Standard components were added to a personal computer (PC) to build a functional teleradiology unit capable of interhospital image transmission at a low cost ($600 upgrade). This PC teleradiology system was studied to assess its accuracy in the interpretation of soft-tissue lateral neck x-rays with epiglottitis or retropharyngeal abscesses and elbow x-rays with joint effusions, fractures, or both.

PURPOSE: The aim of this paper is to describe two cases from the authors' forensic archive database in which teleradiology was related to unfavourable outcomes.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Two patients underwent autopsy after unexpected death following road accidents. In one case, death was caused by multiple cervical fractures following minor neck injury in the presence of diffuse idiopathic skeletal hyperostosis. INTRODUCTION: Non-traumatic abdominal pain is a common emergency presentation frequently managed by general surgeons. Abdominopelvic computed tomography (CT) scans are the most popular imaging modality in this context. In many hospitals, the rising demand for urgent and emergent scans out-of-hours has necessitated the outsourcing of this service to teleradiology companies, whereby reports are generated at sites remote from the image acquisition. In 7 cases of mandibular laterognathia caused by condylar hypertrophy, the authors specify the clinical and teleradiological features in adolescents. They emphasize the inadequacy of lateral teleradiography and of its measurements, and the need for three-dimensional investigation. In adolescents, secondary deformations, either spontaneous or therapeutic, are rare, and the treatment preferred is condylectomy based on the study of casts. The immediate results of this techniques are satisfactory. The long-term consequences on growth and temporomandibular pathology have been studied.
