STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study.
INTRODUCTION: A new method of accurately assessing the compromised elbow's proprioception was developed for this postsurgical population using information from previous neurophysiologic proprioception studies of healthy elbows.
HYPOTHESIS: This retrospective cohort study investigated the patterns and the degree of proprioceptive impairment and recovery following arthroscopic surgery for chronic lateral epicondylitis.
MATERIAL AND METHODS: Participants had undergone arthroscopic elbow surgery two years prior to this study (n=15). Healthy, non-injured

BACKGROUND: The etiology of tennis elbow is multifactorial. Overuse of the wrist extensors along with anatomic factors, such as flexibility problems, aging, and poor blood circulation, may play a role. This study investigated whether patients with tennis elbow have a different psychological profile compared with healthy controls.
METHODS: Patients with clinical signs of tennis elbow, consulting at the Ghent University Hospital between September 2015 and January 2017, were offered a paper-and-pencil questionnaire about Big Five personality traits, perfectionism, anxiety, depression, work satis

There is a great variety of potential therapies in the treatment of lateral epicondylitis, surgical intervention being the most invasive. The most frequently applied therapies are corticosteroid injections, pain-relieving medication (NSAID) and physical therapy. Though many studies have been conducted, a "gold standard" in the treatment of LE is not available. Perhaps this is explained by a lack of methodological quality of many of these studies.

Tennis elbow is a common overuse syndrome. It is accompanied by degenerative changes in the enthesis of the extensor carpi radialis brevis muscle. It may be best diagnosed clinically by eliminating other possible causes of lateral elbow pain. Physical methods should always be selected as initial treatment. Immobilisation is the initial advice that most doctors give: ultrasound has been shown to be effective in a placebo-controlled, double-blind trial, and low energy laser has been found to reduce objective but not subjective symptoms. Other forms of physical treatment like electrotherapy, ther

INTRODUCTION: Surgical treatment of lateral epicondylitits (LE) has not been investigated sufficiently to allow general guidelines, nor has non-invasive treatment produced sufficiently good results. We present the results of 31 mini-tenotomies performed to treat lateral epicondylitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: We performed a retrospective follow-up study of 31 elbows treated with mini-tenotomy for LE. The average period with symptoms was 125 weeks, the average follow-up 73 weeks. The mini-tenotomies were performed under local anaesthesia and the extensor aponeurosis was cut close to the epicondy

OBJECTIVE: To review the literature on nonsurgical treatment of tennis elbow.
METHODS: We searched Medline for all randomized controlled trials (RCTs), controlled clinical trials (CCTs) and literature reviews published from 1966 to December 2003 on nonsurgical treatment of tennis elbow. We used the keys words controlled clinical trial, tennis elbow on lateral epicondylitis, and treatment. We found 46 reports of RCTs and CCTs on 14 nonsurgical treatments and 11 literature reviews.
RESULTS: Corticosteroid injection is the best treatment option for the short term. However, beneficial effects pe

Forty-five patients with 47 cases of chronic lateral epicondylitis treated surgically were reviewed. Physical examination revealed increased pain with resisted wrist extension, particularly when the elbow was straight. The presence of contracture of the anterolateral elbow capsule at surgery explained the pain with extension. Release of the capsule with the extensors provided relief in 87% of patients. Operative treatment is successful in most cases of chronic tennis elbow when conservative means are exhausted.

Tennis elbow is due to a torque injury or sudden overstretching of tendons which insert into the epicondyles of the humerus. The predominant lesion is an enthesopathy--a pathological lesion at the insertion of tendon into bone. The most common site is at the lateral epicondyle and this is 3 times as frequent as at the medial epicondyle. Approximately 50% of tennis players can expect to get a tennis elbow at some time during their playing lifetime. In one-third of the players this will be severe enough to interfere with their tasks of daily living. The major unresolved question about the aetiol

The exact cause of tennis elbow, a common condition, is still obscure. While the condition may well be entirely due to a local disorder at the elbow, the results of a study of 50 patients whose condition was resistant to 4 weeks of treatment directed to the elbow suggest that the underlying condition may have been (at least in these patients) a reflex localization of pain from radiculopathy at the cervical spine. Clinical, radiologic and electromyographic findings supported this suggestion. The pain was demonstrated to be muscular tenderness, which was maximal and specific at motor points. Tre

Tennis elbow is a painful condition and causes restricted movement of forearm which requires treatment for long period. Till date only symptomatic treatments are available like use of anti-inflammatory analgesic drugs, steroids injection, physiotherapy, exercise etc. But none of these provide satisfactory result. Long term use of anti-inflammatory, analgesic drugs and steroids injection is also not free from the adverse effects. Usually, 'wait-and-see policy' of treatment guideline is recommended in most of medical texts. According to Ayurveda, snayugata vata can be correlated with the conditi

Tennis elbow is a common disease. The current research showed that the basic pathology of tennis elbow is not inflammation, but lateral elbow tendinopathy. Ultrasound image has been frequently used for diagnosis of tennis elbow, it can evaluate the condition of disease and show prognosis. Tennis elbow needs a comprehensive treatment. Most patients can obtain satisfactory effects by non-operation, especially the application of the Sodium hyaluronate, autologous blood and botulinum toxin. The principle of operation is to clear the common extensor tendon and repair or rebuild the tendon dead cent

BACKGROUND: Lateral epicondylitis is a common cause of pain and upper limb dysfunction. The use of counterforce straps for treatment of lateral epicondylitis is widespread. This kind of orthosis can be modified to have a greater effect on relieving pain by reducing tension on the origin of the extensor pronator muscles.
OBJECTIVES: To determine the immediate effects of a newly designed orthosis on pain and grip strength in patients with lateral epicondylitis.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Twelve participants (six men and six women) were recruited (mean age = 41 ± 6.7 years) and evaluated for pain a

Calcific tendinitis occurs frequently in shoulder and hip region. Its occurrence in elbow joint is frequently misdiagnosed because of its rare incidence and similar clinical presentation with other acute conditions of elbow like trauma, infection and tennis elbow. Characteristic symptoms of this condition are acute onset of pain, tenderness and swelling on the lateral aspect the elbow. Plain Radiograph is the primary modality to distinguish and evaluate this condition. Awareness and familiarity with this condition helps in early diagnosis and avoids unnecessary treatments and biopsy as this co

A 28-year-old woman presented with sudden acute lateral epicondylitis. There was no history of preceding trauma or repetitive use of the arm. Because of the acute onset and signs of acute inflammation, an X-ray was arranged. The X-ray showed a hyperdense calcified elongated globule distal to the lateral epicondyle. A diagnosis of calcific periarthritis (calcium apatite) of the elbow was made. Calcific periarthritis has rarely been reported as a cause of acute elbow pain.

Lateral epicondylitis, or tennis elbow is a common condition that presents with pain and tenderness around the common extensor origin of the elbow. Tennis elbow is estimated to affect 1-3% of the adult population each year and is more common in the dominant arm. It is generally regarded as an overuse injury involving repeated wrist extension against resistance, although it can occur as an acute injury (trauma to the lateral elbow). Up to 50% of all tennis players develop symptoms due to various factors including poor swing technique the use of heavy racquet. It's also seen in labourers who uti
