The Journal of orthopaedic and sports physical therapy2020eng
A 60-year-old woman with chronic atraumatic shoulder pain underwent arthroscopic biceps tenodesis. Upon presenting to the physical therapy clinic 7 days following surgery, she reported constant pain. Following the examination, the physical therapist reviewed the patient's postoperative radiographs and noted a comminuted but minimally displaced fracture of the right proximal humeral metaphysis. J Orthop Sports Phys Ther 2020;50(11):649. doi:10.2519/jospt.2020.9497.

The injuries of the posterolateral corner (PLC) of the knee often remain misdiagnosed. Because most structures in this anatomical region have low potential to heal, the posterolateral rotational instability results in a deterioration in patient quality of life, impaired biomechanics of the knee, and increased tension on other ligaments and the meniscus. Many open and a few arthroscopic techniques have been developed to repair or reconstruct the damaged structures of the PLC. Creating an additional midlateral arthroscopic portal on the lateral side of the knee was the key to developing the tech

Children with myelomeningocele often develop progressive valgus deformity of the ankle that may be concomitant with, or mistaken for, paralytic hindfoot valgus. The same deformity is encountered in children who sustain lower motor neuron deficits. It is imperative to obtain an anteroposterior weight-bearing radiograph of the ankles to differentiate and document the degree of ankle valgus. To address the ankle deformity, we employed the fibular-Achilles tenodesis described by Westin. We are reporting our experience with 18 patients (32 ankles) who underwent this procedure. We noted improvement

BACKGROUND: The interference screw technique is commonly used in tenodesis of the long head of the biceps for its well-documented robust fixation strength. Some complications may occur after tenodesis with interference screw such as persistent pain, bone fracture and cyst formation. A new technique using a small "soft anchor" has been proposed to avoid the risk of occurrence of the above-mentioned complications associated with the use of the interference screw. However, the proposed technique must provide adequate fixation strength. This study investigated the mechanical performance of the new

Various studies have shown that the operative treatment of a freshly ruptured Achilles tendon is generally considered to be more appropriate than a nonoperative regimen. However, complications in open reconstructions are reported to occur between 11-29%. We intended to develop a method which reduces the risk of complications arising from operation but simultaneously allows early postoperative mobilization and functional treatment. We developed a percutaneous tenodesis of the Achilles tendon, using two Lengemann extension wires for adaptation of the ruptured tendon. This method of treatment has

BACKGROUND: In biceps tenodesis for intra-articular tears, determining the distal extension of the lesions through the biceps groove is important in choosing the optimal tenodesis site.
PURPOSE: To determine the optimal tenodesis site by analyzing the extension and delamination of an extra-articular lesion, or a "hidden lesion," in the retrieved biceps after subpectoral biceps tenodesis.
STUDY DESIGN: Case series; Level of evidence, 4.
METHODS: A total of 36 subpectoral tenodeses were performed, and the retrieved biceps were analyzed. The biceps lesions were divided into zones according to

APPROACH TO THE PROBLEM: Various studies (3, 6, 9, 14, 22, 28, 30, 33) have shown that, on average (26), the surgical treatment of a freshly ruptured Achilles tendon can be considered a more appropriate and better treatment than a conservative immobilisation therapy. On the other hand the rate of complications in openly executed reconstructions is quite considerable at 11-29% (13, 19, 20, 31). It therefore seems reasonable to develop a process which, by using minimal invasive measures on the tendon, reduces the risk of complications arising from surgery and simultaneously makes an early post o

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to review all cases of patients submitted to Westin's tenodesis, who had calcaneus feet secondary to myelomeningocele sequel, in order to evaluate the anatomical change provided by surgery and also to verify, in a long-term follow-up, the inversion of the deformity depending on the patient's age.
METHODS: In this longitudinal retrospective study, all medical records of patients with myelomeningocele sequelae submitted to Westin's tenodesis from 1993 to 2013 in a public university hospital were reviewed. Patients were contacted for new clinical and radiog

There are many techniques described for biceps tenodesis that vary by fixation type, location, and open or arthroscopic method. Clinical outcomes are similar regardless of repair technique; therefore, the cost and time of procedures are increasingly points of improvement to practice value-based medicine and deliver cost-effective care. The technique described in this article builds on previous arthroscopic transosseous technical knowledge to yield a cost-effective and efficient clinical method to perform biceps tenodesis in the suprapectoral location without the cost and complications of an im

BACKGROUND: Instability of the sternoclavicular joint is a very uncommon disorder of the shoulder girdle. Acute traumatic dislocations are commonly treated nonoperatively. But severe displacement or chronic instability with recurrent symptomatic subluxation may require surgical intervention. We present our results with open reduction and internal fixation through an autologous gracilis tendon transplant or fiber tape in 8 patients treated surgically. The operative stabilisation of the sternoclavicular joint reduces pain level and improves function of the shoulder. This technique provides an ef

INTRODUCTION: Mallet fractures are avulsions of the terminal extensor tendon from the base of the distal phalangeal bone with a bony fragment. Surgical treatment, which provides accurate anatomical reduction and rigid fixation, is recommended for mallet fractures with involvement of more than one third of the base of the distal phalangeal bone. Various surgical methods have been reported, but there is still no standard treatment modality. The purpose of this investigation was to assess the results of our modified tenodesis method for mallet fractures.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Using our method,

Rupture of the biceps tendon occurs predominantly in the middle-aged and elderly, being predisposed through bicipital tendinitis and rotator cuff lesions. Surgical repair may be an option for those requiring strength in supination. This study compared the initial fixation strength of keyhole tenodesis (n = 7) and interference screw fixation by use of cadaveric specimens. Two interference screws were evaluated (n = 7 x 2): the round-headed cannulated interference screw (RCI) and a bioresorbable screw (Sysorb). All specimens failed at the fixation site but one. This study found that overall ther

In 26 knees treated by semitendinosus tenodesis, there was no recurrence of dislocation, but fair and poor results totaled 38% due to persistent pain because of chondromalacia of the patella. Poor results are also more common in the patients with generalized ligamentous laxity. Postoperative complications in wound healing suggest that the medial parapatellar skin incision is less than adequate. Semitendinosus tenodesis with or without modifications is a useful procedure to prevent recurrent dislocations and subluxation during the growth period.

Tenodesis of the long head of biceps is a common shoulder surgical procedure. Tenodesis can be performed either arthroscopically or open and within the glenohumeral joint, within the bicipital groove, or below the pectoralis major tendon insertion. Arthroscopic tenodesis of the biceps tendon reduces the risk of infection. Our technique may also address persistent pain due to over tensioning of the tenodesis or from lesions hidden within the groove, such as bicipital synovitis or partial tendon tears, that are not visualized in a standard open technique. We describe an all-arthroscopic onlay te

Long head biceps tendinopathy can be a significant pain generator, often presenting with pain localised to the anterior shoulder. Biceps tenodesis, both open and arthroscopic, is a well-established treatment for long head biceps pathology. In this presentation, we describe a novel arthroscopic onlay technique for long head biceps tenodesis using a lasso configuration with two knotless suture anchors that provide an efficient, low-profile construct to limit scarring and adhesions while providing circumferential fixation. We use this technique for the following surgical indications: severe tendi

We describe an arthroscopic keyhole technique for proximal biceps tenodesis. The technique is safe, easy to reproduce, cost-effective, and less time consuming. It does not need any special instrumentation and is suitable especially for use in the developing countries. It enables examination of the biceps sheath and distal biceps tendon for unidentified tears, synovitis, and fibrosis.

Treatment of long head biceps (LHB) tendon pathology has become an area of renewed interest and debate among orthopaedic surgeons in recent years. The background of this manuscript is a description of biceps tenodesis which ensure continual dynamic action of the tendon which depresses the head and impedes lateral translation. A new technique has been developed in order to treat LHB tendon irreversible structural abnormalities associated with cuff rotator lesions. This technique entails the construction of a biological anchor between the LHB and supraspinatus and/or infraspinatus tendons accord

We describe a safe and simple approach for performing biceps tenodesis. This is performed in conjunction with arthroscopic inspection and debridement. This approach is less invasive than a deltopectoral approach and has been tested and proven secure.
