BACKGROUND: Various parts of three Terminalia species, namely, Terminalia arjuna (stem bark), Terminalia bellirica (fruit), and Terminalia chebula (fruit) are widely known for their therapeutic principles and other commercial values. However, stem bark of T. bellirica and T. chebula along with Terminalia tomentosa are reported as adulterants of T. arjuna. Correct botanical identification is very critical for safe and effective herbal drugs. DNA-based identification approaches are advancing the conventional methods and sometime proved more beneficial.
OBJECTIVE: The purpose of the study was to

Ancient Indian physicians used the powdered tree bark of Terminalia arjuna Wight & Arn. for alleviating "hritshool" (angina) and other cardiovascular conditions. Its stem bark possesses glycosides, large quantities of flavonoids, tannins and minerals. Flavonoids have been detected to exert antioxidant, anti-inflammatory and lipid lowering effects while glycosides are cardiotonic, thus making Terminalia arjuna unique amongst currently used medicinal plants. In this review an attempt has been made to discuss various aspects of its ethnomedical, pharmacognostical, phytochemical, pharmacological a

OBJECTIVE: Hypertension is still the most prevalent of all non-communicable chronic diseases worldwide. It is the most common risk factor for cardiovascular disease (CVD) burden and mortality. In 2019, hypertension was reported as the number one and two cause of death in women, and men respectively, accounting for almost 20% of deaths globally. In India, 57% of stroke and 24% of coronary heart disease (CHD) deaths are directly related to high blood pressure. To achieve true control over this disorder, novel antihypertensive therapies need to be designed. In light of the current situation, a cl

Methanolic extraction (ME) of terminalia bentzoe leaves and its aqueous (QF) and n-butanol (nBF) fractions are investigated as sustainable green compounds for both anticorrosion and antimicrobial activity. Extracted and fractionated phytochemicals and their functional groups are detected by GC-MS and FTIR. According to the electrochemical results, ME, QF and nBF samples are considered as anodic inhibitors that mainly inhibit the anodic dissolution of copper (Cu) in 0.6 M NaCl solution. Their inhibition efficiencies increase by increasing their concentrations up to 60 ppm, and the highest value
