Case Report: Treatment of Delusions of Theft Based on the Assessment of Photos of Patients' Homes.

BACKGROUND: The occurrence of behavioral and psychological symptoms of dementia is affected by individualized context. However, details regarding delusion of theft have been poorly documented. This report describes a useful assessment to understand the environmental context of delusion through two cases of Alzheimer's disease (AD).Familial interview was conducted to assess the phenomenological features. Photos of patients' homes were used to increase the assessment accuracy and check the individualized environmental contexts; this is known as Photo Assessment of Living Environment (PA-LE). CA

Pseudomonas aeruginosa utilizes host polyunsaturated phosphatidylethanolamines to trigger theft-ferroptosis in bronchial epithelium.

Ferroptosis is a death program executed via selective oxidation of arachidonic acid-phosphatidylethanolamines (AA-PE) by 15-lipoxygenases. In mammalian cells and tissues, ferroptosis has been pathogenically associated with brain, kidney, and liver injury/diseases. We discovered that a prokaryotic bacterium, Pseudomonas aeruginosa, that does not contain AA-PE can express lipoxygenase (pLoxA), oxidize host AA-PE to 15-hydroperoxy-AA-PE (15-HOO-AA-PE), and trigger ferroptosis in human bronchial epithelial cells. Induction of ferroptosis by clinical P. aeruginosa isolates from patients with persis

Thieves in the delusions of theft in patients with Alzheimer's disease living alone: A case series.

This study explored the phenomenology of theft delusions in four female patients with Alzheimer's disease (AD) living alone, aiming to understand its psychological relevance. Caregivers participated in semi-structured interviews to assess delusion phenomenology, while patients were evaluated on their aging perceptions and life values. In three cases, the primary persecutor was a family member involved in managing finances, whereas the persecutor in the fourth patient who managed finances independently was a specific neighbor. Thieves in the delusion of theft in patients with AD living alone we

Risk factors for delusion of theft in patients with Alzheimer's disease showing mild dementia in Japan.

The mechanism underlying delusion in Alzheimer's disease patients has not been fully clarified; however, the occurrence of delusion is a critical issue for dementia patients and their caregivers. In Japan, delusion of theft is the most frequent delusion in AD patients. We examined the risk factors for delusion of theft in AD patients showing mild dementia. Fifty-six AD patients were administered HDS-R, MMSE and COGNISTAT, including the 'speech sample', to assess their neuropsychological and social cognitive functions. The age, years of education, presence of cohabiting family members and premo

Evidence for methanobactin "Theft" and novel chalkophore production in methanotrophs: impact on methanotrophic-mediated methylmercury degradation.

Aerobic methanotrophy is strongly controlled by copper, and methanotrophs are known to use different mechanisms for copper uptake. Some methanotrophs secrete a modified polypeptide-methanobactin-while others utilize a surface-bound protein (MopE) and a secreted form of it (MopE*) for copper collection. As different methanotrophs have different means of sequestering copper, competition for copper significantly impacts methanotrophic activity. Herein, we show that Methylomicrobium album BG8, Methylocystis sp. strain Rockwell, and Methylococcus capsulatus Bath, all lacking genes for methanobactin

Firearm Thefts from Vehicles in the United States: Results from a National Survey of Firearm Owners.

This study examines the prevalence, characteristics, and behavioral responses associated with firearm thefts from vehicles in the United States. Data are from a national survey of firearm owners conducted by YouGov in February-March 2026 (n = 1,976). Overall, 2.7% of respondents reported having experienced a firearm theft from a vehicle. Multivariable Firth logistic regression analyses indicated that older age was associated with lower odds of experiencing a theft, while non-Hispanic Black and Hispanic respondents had significantly higher odds compared to non-Hispanic White respondents. Developmental links between trajectories of physical violence, vandalism, theft, and alcohol-drug use from childhood to adolescence.

Differences in developmental trajectories of physical violence, vandalism, theft, and alcohol-drug use from ages 10 to 15 were studied. For females and for males, three trajectories of theft and of alcohol-drug use increased from 10 years to 15 years, while only the high trajectory of vandalism increased from ten to 14. All trajectories of physical violence decreased. Children who engaged in the high trajectories of vandalism, theft, and alcohol-drug use had a high probability of also being high in physical violence. Compared to males, females were less likely to be on the high trajectory of p

Brief report: exposure to tear gas from a theft-deterrent device on a safe--Wisconsin, December 2003.

On December 4, 2003, a hazardous materials (HazMat) release occurred at a jewelry store in Beloit, Wisconsin, when the store owner tightened a screw on the door of an old safe outfitted with a chemical theft-deterrent device. The device included a metal housing containing a glass vial of liquid, which cracked as the screw tightened, releasing approximately 4 ounces of tear gas. The store owner sustained eye and skin irritation and was treated at a hospital and released. Twelve persons in the building and persons in adjacent businesses were evacuated for 3 hours while a certified Level A HazMat

"Is There Anything Else?": Examining Administrator Influence on Linguistic Features from the Cookie Theft Picture Description Cognitive Test.

Alzheimer's Disease (AD) dementia is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that negatively impacts patients' cognitive ability. Previous studies have demonstrated that changes in naturalistic language samples can be useful for early screening of AD dementia. However, the nature of language deficits often requires test administrators to use various speech elicitation techniques during spontaneous language assessments to obtain enough propositional utterances from dementia patients. This could lead to the "observer's effect" on the downstream analysis that has not been fully investigated. Our

P. aeruginosa augments irradiation injury via 15-lipoxygenase-catalyzed generation of 15-HpETE-PE and induction of theft-ferroptosis.

Total body irradiation (TBI) targets sensitive bone marrow hematopoietic cells and gut epithelial cells, causing their death and inducing a state of immunodeficiency combined with intestinal dysbiosis and nonproductive immune responses. We found enhanced Pseudomonas aeruginosa (PAO1) colonization of the gut leading to host cell death and strikingly decreased survival of irradiated mice. The PAO1-driven pathogenic mechanism includes theft-ferroptosis realized via (a) curbing of the host antiferroptotic system, GSH/GPx4, and (b) employing bacterial 15-lipoxygenase to generate proferroptotic sign

Work Role Overload and Employee Time Theft: A Daily Diary Examination of JD-R Pathways via Fatigue and Intrinsic Motivation.

Drawing on Job Demands-Resources (JD-R) theory, this study examines how daily work role overload (WRO) contributes to ETT via two mechanisms: energy depletion (fatigue) and motivational erosion (intrinsic motivation). Using the daily diary method, data were collected from 107 employees over 5 consecutive days, yielding 460 usable daily observations across the education, healthcare, information technology and trade sectors. Path analyses showed that daily WRO was positively associated with ETT. Consistent with the energy depletion mechanism, WRO increased fatigue, predicting higher ETT. Meanwhi

The use of professional help and predictors of unmet needs for dealing with mental health to legal problems among victims of violence, accidents, theft and threat, and nonvictims in the general population.

AIMS: Victims of violence, accidents, theft, and serious threat (hereafter abbreviated as victims) are more than nonvictims at risk for problems in different domains, varying from mental health to legal problems. However, the extent to which victims with these problems compared to nonvictims with similar problems receive problem-related professional or formal help is unclear. It is unknown if predictors of unmet needs differ between victims and nonvictims. Aim of the present study is to fill this gap of knowledge. METHODS: Data was extracted from surveys of the VICTIMS-study (2018, 2019 and 2

Joy-riding among British youth.

The behavioural and legal aspects of the problematic and repetitive criminal behaviour of aggravated vehicle taking or "joyriding" are reviewed as context for a study in Great Britain of data from 20 males imprisoned for joy-riding and/or vehicle theft for gain, 10 habitual joyriders who were members of a youth club established to counter the problem, 10 imprisoned house-breakers, and 10 males with no criminal convictions. No specific ethnographic, motivational, or personality differences between joy-riders and those involved in other crimes of theft were found, although there was evidence for

Advising caution in studying seasonal oscillations in crime rates.

Most types of crime are known to exhibit seasonal oscillations, yet the annual variations in the amplitude of this seasonality and their causes are still uncertain. Using a large collection of data from the Houston and Los Angeles Metropolitan areas, we extract and study the seasonal variations in aggravated assault, break in and theft from vehicles, burglary, grand theft auto, rape, robbery, theft, and vandalism for many years from the raw daily data. Our approach allows us to see various long term and seasonal trends and aberrations in crime rates that have not been reported before. We then

Conflict and social control among cannabis growers.

AIMS: Illegal drug markets are often assumed to be violent and predatory due to the absence of third-party enforcement. While cannabis markets are generally considered to be relatively more peaceful, there has been little investigation of the levels of conflict and victimization among small-scale cannabis growers, particularly under different cannabis policy and enforcement settings. This paper explores prevalence and predictors of conflict and social control among small-scale cannabis growers. METHODS: The data were obtained from an online convenience survey of small-scale cannabis growers f

Structural Attacks and Defenses for Flow-Based Microfluidic Biochips.

Flow-based microfluidic biochips (FMBs) have seen rapid commercialization and deployment in recent years for point-of-care and clinical diagnostics. However, the outsourcing of FMB design and manufacturing makes them susceptible to susceptible to malicious physical level and intellectual property (IP)-theft attacks. This work demonstrates the first structure-based (SB) attack on representative commercial FMBs. The SB attacks maliciously decrease the heights of the FMB reaction chambers to produce false-negative results. We validate this attack experimentally using fluorescence microscopy, whic
