Thymus schimperi is a highly localized and a rare plant endemic to Ethiopia. An optimized and validated high-performance liquid chromatography-electrospray ionization-tandem mass spectrometry (HPLC-ESI-MS/MS) method was applied to characterize 23 polyphenolic compounds found in ethyl acetate extracts of the plant. From those, flavones dominated and luteolin was the major component contributing 21.83% of the total composition (or 46.05±0.59g/kg of fresh sample weight). Validation data showed a determination coefficient (R2)≥0.997. Limits of detection (LOD) and quantification (LOQ) were 0.03-0.9

We investigated how water restriction affects plant-plant interactions in two Mediterranean shrubs, Thymus carnosus Boiss and Retama monosperma (L.) Boiss, to test whether intra- and interspecific interactions between these species respond differently to drought. A greenhouse experiment was conducted with 5-month-old seedlings under three interaction types (interspecific, isolation, and intraspecific). After a 7-month growth phase, a water restriction treatment was imposed, and shoot water potential and photochemical efficiency of chlorophyll were monitored weekly. Biomass allocation and stabl

Thyme is a commercial spice widely used in food, cosmetics, and pharmaceutical industries. Three popular genera in food and traditional medicine, including Zataria Boiss., Thymus L., and Ziziphora L., are considered as thyme-like plants in Iran. Thyme has been standardised based on phenolic monoterpenes, which are abundant in the essential oils of these three genera. Apart from monoterpenes, the flavonoid naringenin, the triterpene oleanolic acid, and phytosterols such as β-sitosterol were abundant in Zataria, Thymus, and Ziziphora samples, respectively. Therefore, employing current analytical

Diabetes mellitus is a serious, chronic disease that occurs either when the pancreas does not produce enough insulin, or when the body can't effectively use insulin. Herbal medicines have been commonly used by diabetic patients for the treatment of diabetes mellitus. To include findings from different studies, publications related to in vivo and invitro antidiabetic activities of medicinal plants in Ethiopia were searched from different databases, such as Web of Science, Google Scholar, Medline, Scopus, and PubMed, using English key terms. Different medicinal plant parts were used experimental

A combination of solid-state mechanochemical and green approaches for the synthesis of silver nanoparticles (AgNPs) is explored in this study. Thymus serpyllum L. (SER), Sambucus nigra L. (SAM) and Thymus vulgaris L. (TYM) plants were successfully applied to reduce AgNO3 to AgNPs, as confirmed by X-ray diffraction analysis, with SER being the best reducing agent, and TYM being the worst. The experiments were performed via a one-step planetary milling process, where various AgNO3:plant mass ratios (1:1, 1:10, 1:50 and 1:100) were investigated. Atomic absorption spectrometry indicated that the s

Thyme oil (TO) is derived from the flowers of various plants belonging to the genus Thymus. It has been used as a therapeutic agent since ancient times. Thymus comprises numerous molecular species exhibiting diverse therapeutic properties that are dependent on their biologically active concentrations in the extracted oil. It is therefore not surprising that oils extracted from different thyme plants present different therapeutic properties. Furthermore, the phenophase of the same plant species has been shown to yield different anti-inflammatory properties. Given the proven efficacy of TO and t

Grassland ecosystems play a crucial role in sustaining the stability of global ecosystem functions. However, the plant communities of grasslands exhibit spatially heterogeneous stability patterns such as vegetation patches influenced by human disturbances, herbivore activities, and climatic and topographic factors. This study investigated the vegetation dynamics in the Thymus mongolicus steppe in Bairin Right Banner, Inner Mongolia, analyzing the structural characteristics, species diversity, and community stability across six vegetation patches. Our findings revealed that patches dominated by
