Ectopic thyroid is a rare developmental anomaly of the thyroid gland which is defined as the presence of thyroid tissue at a site other than the pretracheal area. Nearly 1 to 3% of all ectopic thyroids are located in the lateral neck. Simultaneous submandibular ectopic thyroid tissue presenting with a functional orthotopic thyroid gland is extremely rare. In this article, we report a 37-year-old female case admitted to our clinic with a complaint of swollen neck in whom ultrasonography revealed submandibular ectopic thyroid tissue presenting with an orthotopic thyroid gland.

Primary osteosarcomas are rarely seen in areas other than bone, although they can occur in sites such as the thigh, anal region, hand, etc. We present a case of primary extraskeletal osteosarcoma of the thyroid, of which there are only 29 previous reported cases. Presentations and treatment options for this type of tumor vary. Through this case report, we discuss the similarities and differences of the patient's presentation compared with other documented cases, imaging, the rationale behind treatment, and the current clinical course.

Reoperative thyroid surgery may be necessary in recurrent simple goiters, thyrotoxicosis and especially cancers of the thyroid gland. A case of rare fat-cell-containing adenoma, an adenolipoma, in the thyroid gland is reported. Previously documented cases are reviewed. Diffuse lipomatosis of the thyroid, amyloid goitre with adipose tissue, and the relationship between lipomatosis and adenolipoma are discussed.

Records of 92 patients operated on for thyroid diseases were reviewed. There were four histologic groups: adenoma-56 (61%), thyrotoxicosis-22 (24%), cancer-10 (11%) and Hashimoto's thyroiditis-4 (4%). Among the cold nodules, 9% were malignant. Three patients with hemiagenesis of the typhoid gland are described. One was clinically euthyroid, whereas the other two were more unusual in that one had coincident Graves' disease with thyrotoxicosis, and one had primary myxodema. OBJECTIVES: Disorders of the thyroid gland are the most common endocrinopathies in the gravidity. The spectrum of thyroid diseases in the pregnancy is not different from the diseases that affect the thyroid outside this period of life. However, clinical manifestations of thyreopaties can be modified by gravidity. Some thyreopaties are associated with gravidity or post partum period, or become manifest in this periods for the first time. The aim of this study was to assess thyroidal status of healthy pregnant women without history or clinical signs of thyreopathy.

Perchlorate competitively blocks iodide from entering the thyroid by an effect on the Na+/I- symporter thus preventing the further synthesis of thyroid hormone but has no effect on the iodination process itself. Solitary plasmacytoma of the thyroid is very rare. Thus far, only 12 cases have been reported in literature. This report describes the clinical and histological features of two additional cases. One patient developed bone metastases 1 month after diagnosis and died 17 months later. The second patient is alive with no evidence of disease, 19 months after diagnosis. At the present time there are insufficient data to assess the prognosis in any single case.

Amylase activity detected in thyroid extracts was significantly higher than that of normal sera. A starch film technique revealed the existence of amylase activity in the follicular lumen and on the follicular epithelia.
