Magnetic Resonance Imaging for Dental Pulp Assessment: A Comprehensive Review.

Magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) has recently emerged as a promising modality for dental applications, offering radiation-free imaging with superior soft tissue visualization capabilities compared to x-ray-based techniques such as spiral or cone beam computed tomography (CBCT). Conventional radiographic methods or CBCT cannot directly assess the condition of the dental pulp due to their primary focus on hard tissue visualization, whereas the dental pulp is primarily composed of connective tissue. Given the advantages of MRI in soft tissue imaging, this review aims to explore the current applic

Biomimetic Restoration Through Fragment Re-attachment in Pediatric Dental Trauma: A Case Report.

Dental trauma is one of the most prevalent problems seen in clinical practice. Crown fractures of anterior teeth are particularly common among children and adolescents. Such injuries have significant physical, psychological, and social impacts, necessitating immediate intervention. This case report describes the management of an uncomplicated crown fracture in an eight‑year‑old girl following traumatic dental injury. The fractured fragment was retrieved, stored appropriately, and re‑attached using adhesive protocols. The procedure involved cleaning and conditioning of both the tooth and fragme

Dental follicle stem cells and tissue engineering.

Adult stem cells are multipotent and can be induced experimentally to differentiate into various cell lineages. Such cells are therefore a key part of achieving the promise of tissue regeneration. The most studied stem cells are those of the hematopoietic and mesenchymal lineages. Recently, mesenchymal stem cells were demonstrated in dental tissues, including dental pulp, periodontal ligament, and dental follicle. The dental follicle is a loose connective tissue that surrounds the developing tooth. Dental follicle stem cells could therefore be a cell source for mesenchymal stem cells. Indeed,

Clarifying the Tooth-Derived Stem Cells Behavior in a 3D Biomimetic Scaffold for Bone Tissue Engineering Applications.

Massive amounts of cell are needed for creating tissue engineered 3D constructs, which often requires culture on scaffolds under dynamic conditions to facilitate nutrients and oxygen diffusion. Dynamic cultures are expected to improve cell viability and proliferation rate, when compared to static conditions. However, cells from distinct types and/or tissues sources may respond differently to external stimuli and be incompatible with culture under mechanical shear stress. The first aim of this work was to show that dental stem cells are a valuable source for improving bone regeneration potentia

Evaluation of human dental pulp stem cells behavior on a novel nanobiocomposite scaffold prepared for regenerative endodontics.

Dental caries is a dental disease affecting public health, which results in many socio-economic consequences. This disease causes loss of tooth hard tissue and subsequent inflammation and loss of the dental pulp. In this study, it was aimed to develop and characterize boron (B) modified bioactive glass nanoparticles (BG-NPs) containing cellulose acetate/oxidized pullulan/gelatin (CA/ox-PULL/GEL) three dimensional scaffolds with tubular morphology for dentin regeneration. 3D nanobiocomposite structures were prepared by thermally induced phase separation and porogen leaching methods and characte

Engineering Emulgel-Based Inks for 3D Printing Scaffolds with Enhanced Porosity for Supporting Cell Proliferation.

Highly porous hydrogel scaffolds are critical for advancing three-dimensional printing in tissue engineering. Interconnected porous networks facilitate nutrient diffusion, waste removal, and cell infiltration, necessary processes for tissue regeneration. Emulgel-based inks are developed using oil-in-water Pickering emulsions, in which mineral oil serves as a sacrificial porogen within a carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC)/Laponite matrix, with Laponite providing stabilization of the emulsion. Nine formulations are prepared by varying CMC (0.5-1.0 wt %) and mineral oil (10-20 wt %) concentrations at

Is erosive tooth wear an oral disease?

Erosive tissue loss is part of the physiological wear of teeth. Clinical features are an initial loss of tooth shine or luster followed by flattening of convex structures; with continuing acid exposure, concavities form on smooth surfaces, or grooving and cupping occur on incisal/occlusal surfaces. Dental erosion must be distinguished from other forms of wear, but can also contribute to general tissue loss by surface softening, thus modifying physical wear processes. The determination of dental erosion as a condition or pathology is relatively easy in the case of pain or endodontic complicatio

Er:YAG Laser and Hemolasertherapy: Bone and Gingiva Gain-Case Report.

Background: Modern dentistry has increasingly valued conservative and biologically less invasive clinical practices, seeking to preserve the patients' tissues and natural dental elements. Most extractions in the dental clinic are preceded by periodontal disease that presents bone and gingival tissue loss, compromising the aesthetics as well as the support of dental elements. Objectives: The clinical approach in these cases often involves bone exertion followed by the successful installation of osseointegrated implants. Material and Methods: In this study, a case of extensive periodontal involv

Metabolic Conditions and Peri-Implantitis.

Dental implants to replace lost teeth are a common dentistry practice nowadays. Titanium dental implants display a high success rate and improved safety profile. Nevertheless, there is an increasing peri-implantitis (PI), an inflammatory disease associated with polymicrobial infection that adversely affects the hard and soft tissues around the implant. The present review highlights the contribution of different metabolic conditions to PI. The considerations of both local and systemic metabolic conditions are crucial for planning successful dental implant procedures and during the treatment cou

Stem Cells: Innovations, Applications, and Future Directions.

Stem cells offer great promise in dentistry by regenerating critical oral tissues. Derived from sources such as dental pulp, periodontal ligament, and dental follicle, these cells can be pluripotent or multipotent and are capable of differentiating into various cell types, including odontoblasts and osteoblasts. This regenerative potential could transform treatments for dental conditions like periodontal disease and pulpitis. Advancing this field requires understanding stem cell differentiation and exploring tissue engineering and biomaterial scaffolds. Despite the potential, evolving legal an

Inherited phosphate and pyrophosphate disorders: New insights and novel therapies changing the oral health landscape.

BACKGROUND: Mineral metabolism is critical for proper development of hard tissues of the skeleton and dentition. The dentoalveolar complex includes the following 4 mineralized tissues: enamel, dentin, cementum, and alveolar bone. Developmental processes of these tissues are affected by inherited disorders that disrupt phosphate and pyrophosphate homeostasis, although manifestations are distinct from those in the skeleton. TYPES OF STUDIES REVIEWED: The authors discuss original data from experiments and comparative analyses and review articles describing effects of inherited phosphate and pyro

An Up-To-Date Overview of Dental Tissue Regeneration Using Dental Origin Mesenchymal Stem Cells: Challenges and Road Ahead.

Stem cells (SCs) research has experienced exponential growth in recent years. SC-based treatments can enhance the lives of people suffering from cardiac ischemia, Alzheimer's disease, and regenerative drug conditions, like bone or loss of teeth. Numerous kinds of progenitor/SCs have been hypothesized to depend on their potential to regain and/or heal wounded tissue and partly recover organ function. Growing data suggest that SCs (SCs) are concentrated in functions and that particular tissues have more SCs. Dental tissues, in particular, are considered a significant cause of mesenchymal stem ce
