[The adhesive and antagonistic activity of microflora of oral cavity in patients with malignant neoplasms of tongue].

The data concerning the degree of adhesion and antagonism of microorganisms of oral cavity in patients with malignant neoplasms of tongue is presented. it is established that pathogenic and conditionally pathogenic microflora has more mainly high and less infrequent degree of adhesion. the normal microflora has average and low degree of adhesion. About 90% of lactobacilla of oral cavity manifest no antagonism concerning pathogenic and conditionally pathogenic microorganisms. The antagonism of enterobacteria, staphylococcii and lactobacilla is absent. The staphylococci, including producing β-la

GLI1-fusion neoplasm of the tongue: report of a pediatric case associated with SHOX deficiency disorder.

GLI1-altered soft tissue tumor is a recently recognized entity featuring GLI1 fusions or amplifications, with predilection for the head and neck region and potential for metastasis. We report an additional case arising in the tongue of a 9-year-old boy with growth hormone insufficiency and epilepsy. Imaging showed an enhancing midline dorsal tongue lesion. Incisional biopsy revealed a multilobulated submucosal proliferation of monomorphic epithelioid-to-ovoid cells with prominent perivascular distribution around branching vessels and focal protrusion into vascular spaces. Tumor cells were GLUT

Epithelioid mesenchymal neoplasm with FUS::CREM gene fusion in the tongue: Report of a rare and challenging diagnosis.

FET (encompassing both EWSR1 and FUS) fusions with genes from the CREB family (CREB1, ATF1, and CREM) are involved in a variety of neoplasms. Recently, FET::CREB fusions were recognized in a group of malignant epithelioid neoplasm with a striking predilection to mesothelial-lined cavities and frequent cytokeratin immunoexpression. Herein, we report a rare mesenchymal neoplasm with epithelioid morphology and nonspecific immunoprofile harboring a FUS::CREM fusion arising in the oral tongue of a 53-year-old man. Histology showed a well-circumscribed tumor composed of epithelioid cells with eosino

Effective Retrograde Dissection by the Floating Tongue-Like Flap Method for Gastric Neoplasm Involving the Pyloric Channel.

BACKGROUND/AIMS: Endoscopic submucosal dissection (ESD) of gastric neoplasm involving the pyloric channel (GNPC) is technically challenging due to difficulty in precise assessment of resection margin and inadequate visualization. The aim of this study was to evaluate the effectiveness and long-term outcome of ESD for GNPC and introduce a noble technique for resection of GNPC. METHODS: A total of 97 patients with GNPC underwent ESD from January 2007 to October 2017. We divided them into a conventional anterograde resection group and a retrograde resection group according to the method of proce

Functional reconstruction after subtotal glossectomy in the surgical treatment of an uncommon and aggressive neoplasm in this location: Primary malignant melanoma in the base of the tongue.

Primary malignant melanoma of the oral cavity is a rare neoplasm, especially on the tongue. We report a case of mucosal melanoma at the base of the tongue, an extremely rare location (only about 30 cases have been reported in literature). The extension study doesn´t revealed distant metastatic lesions. The patient was treated by subtotal glossectomy and bilateral functional neck dissection. Tongue is one of the most difficult structures to reconstruct, because of their central role in phonation, swallowing and airway protection. The defect was reconstructed with anterolateral thigh free flap.

A subset of ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumours of the tongue show EWSR1 rearrangements and are genetically linked to soft tissue myoepithelial neoplasms: a study of 11 cases.

AIMS: Ectomesenchymal chondromyxoid tumour (ECT) is a rare, benign intraoral neoplasm showing a predilection for the anterior dorsum of the tongue. The World Health Organization includes ECT in the pathological spectrum of soft tissue myoepithelioma. EWS RNA-binding protein 1 gene (EWSR1) rearrangement is found in 45% of cutaneous, soft tissue and bone myoepithelial neoplasms, and pleomorphic adenoma gene 1 (PLAG1) aberrations are found in 37% of EWSR1-negative soft tissue myoepitheliomas. The aim of this study was to evaluate the presence of EWSR1 and PLAG1 rearrangements in ECTs. METHODS AN

Chemoprevention of oral carcinogenesis by DL-alpha-difluoromethylornithine, an ornithine decarboxylase inhibitor: dose-dependent reduction in 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide-induced tongue neoplasms in rats.

The modifying effect of three doses of DL-alpha-difluoromethylornithine (DFMO) given p.o. during the post-initiation phase of tongue carcinogenesis initiated by 4-nitroquinoline 1-oxide (4-NQO) was studied in male ACI/N rats. Animals were given 4-NQO at 20 ppm for 8 weeks in the drinking water to induce tongue neoplasms. One week after the stop of 4-NQO treatment, rats were transferred to the drinking water containing DFMO at concentrations of 100, 1000, and 2000 ppm for 25 weeks. The other groups consisted of rats given 2000 ppm DFMO alone or untreated rats. Thirty-four weeks after the start

Tongue base schwannoma: differential diagnosis and imaging features with a case presentation.

Schwannomas are slow growing, encapsulated neoplasms that arise from the nerve sheath. A vast majority of these benign neoplasms occur in the head and neck region, most commonly involving the 8th cranial nerve. Schwannomas arising from the base of tongue are very rare and, thus, can easily escape the list of differential diagnosis for a posterior tongue mass. A systematic approach is recommended for diagnosis of a posterior tongue mass, with neoplastic, infectious, and congenital categories. We report a case of a 24-year-old female, who presented with pressure sensation in the throat. On imagi

Multiple schwannomas with pseudoglandular element synchronously occurring under the tongue: A case report.

BACKGROUND: Schwannoma is a rare benign, encapsulated tumor of the nerve sheath under the tongue, mostly occurring as solitary tumors with classical histological pattern and several common morphological variants. To our knowledge, multiple schwannomas with pseudoglandular element synchronously occurring under the tongue are rare; we report herein the first such case. CASE SUMMARY: A 53-year-old man had first noticed an isolated asymptomatic mass under the tongue, and as the mass grew, the tongue was elevated. Physical examination showed multiple oval neoplasms, and the overlying mucosa was no
