Displacement of deciduous tooth into hypopharynx due to endotracheal intubation.

Intubation may lead to several dental complications. Furthermore, a tooth damaged during intubation may be subsequently dislocated. In the present case, the upper primary incisor was avulsed during intubation and, unbeknownst to the anesthesiologist, displaced to the larynx. We report here on the findings and indicate appropriate treatment. Intubation for general anesthesia in children can result in tooth damage and/or dislocation of primary teeth with subsequent root resorption. Prevention is key, and thus it is critical to evaluate the patient's dental status before and after intubation. Fur

Expression of MT1-MMP during deciduous tooth resorption in odontoclasts.

Membrane type 1-matrix metalloproteinase (MT1-MMP) is a membrane-bound matrix metalloproteinase capable of mediating pericellular proteolysis of extracellular matrix components. In osteoclasts, the localization of MT1-MMP has been reported at the tips of specialized membrane protrusions (podosomes and lamellipodia) so that osteoclasts might use MT1-MMP to perform focal proteolysis and move through the extracellular matrix to the bone surface. The objectives of this study were to investigate an association of MT1-MMP in physiological root resorption of the deciduous tooth by reverse transcripta

Epidemiological study of some factors related to deciduous tooth eruption.

This community based study evaluates the eruption pattern of the Saudi children (0-24 months), living in the North West region of the country. No child under the age of 6 months in this study had any teeth. The number of teeth acquired correlated strongly with age (r = +0.82, t = 18.7, p < 0.001), and moderately with weight (r = +0.63, t = 9.09, p < 0.001). Age and weight having independent effects on the timing of eruption of deciduous teeth. Before teething began, a threshold weight had to be acquired and female teeth emerged with comparatively lower weights than that of males of the same ag

Deciduous tooth eruption in children who fail to gain weight.

In order to investigate the usefulness of the number of erupted deciduous teeth (NET) as a growth parameter, we studied deciduous tooth eruption (DTE) in 46 infants between the ages of 6 and 30 months, who failed to gain weight. The cause of the failure to thrive was intrauterine growth retardation in 17 children, and undetermined in 29. In these babies, height and head circumference were significantly below the mean as well. However, NET was almost unchanged when compared to NET of Israeli children of the same age. These findings support the view that DTE is an independent process, unrelated

Deciduous tooth eruption in Israeli children. A cross-sectional study.

Deciduous tooth eruption (DTE) was studied in 366 Jewish Israeli children: 193 boys and 173 girls. The number of erupted teeth (NET) at different ages was similar in both sexes. No statistically significant correlation was found between NET and anthropometric measurements at birth (weight and length) or subsequently, after eliminating the influence of age, between NET and weight, height, and head circumference. The high normal variability in NET at a given age is demonstrated.

Semiconductor probe measurements in beagle pups during deciduous tooth development.

Bone-seeking radiopharmaceuticals were used together with clinical and radiographic procedures to study tooth development in dogs. Similarities in the pattern and time course of radiopharmaceutical uptake in jaw areas studied suggest that changes in alveolar bone metabolism are not closely related to eruption times of individual teeth.

A Rare Case of Calcified Radicular Cyst in Deciduous Tooth.

UNLABELLED: Radicular cysts (RCs) are one of the most common odontogenic cystic lesions of inflammatory origin. It originates mostly from epithelial residues in periodontal ligaments secondary to inflammation. The pathogenesis involves the activation of epithelial cell rests of Malaseez after physical, chemical, or bacterial injury. Radiographically, it is seen as a well-defined unilocular lesion of size >1.5 cm. RCs are considered rare in the primary dentition, comprising only 0.5-3.3% of the total number of RCs in both primary and permanent dentitions. This is the first case to be reported o

Ectopic Deciduous Maxillary Tooth in the Nasal Cavity Following Trauma.

Several cases of the ectopic supernumerary tooth in the nasal cavity have been reported; however, an eruption of the primary maxillary tooth in the nose following trauma is extremely rare. Clinical evaluation and discriminating features on CT imaging, particularly with bone window setting, are sufficient to confirm the diagnosis. We discuss a case of deciduous central maxillary incisor in the nasal cavity and specifically focus on its clinical and radiological presentation. None of the previous authors have discussed probable theories of the post-traumatic intranasal tooth; we consider two pos

Minimally invasive treatment of an extruded deciduous tooth - Case report.

When a traumatic dental injury affects the deciduous teeth, the main management is to regularly review the patient until the successor permanent tooth erupts to avoid further consequences to the affected tooth and, especially, sequelae in the tooth germs of the successor permanent tooth. This report describes a case of a tooth extrusion in a 4-year-old male treated with a minimally invasive approach. After 4 years of follow-up, there was a mild disturbance (demarcated opacity in the vestibular surface) and a satisfactory result with normal eruption of the permanent successor tooth.

Antimicrobial activity of different filling pastes for deciduous tooth treatment.

Guedes-Pinto paste is the filling material most employed in Brazil for endodontic treatment of deciduous teeth; however, the Rifocort® ointment has been removed. Thus, the aim of this study was to investigate the antimicrobial potential of filling pastes, by proposing three new pharmacological associations to replace Rifocort® ointment with drugs of already established antimicrobial power: Nebacetin® ointment, 2% Chlorhexidine Gluconate gel, and Maxitrol® ointment. A paste composed of Iodoform, Rifocort® ointment and Camphorated Paramonochlorophenol (CPC) was employed as the gold standard (G1)

[Fine structure of the root resorption of human deciduous tooth].

During growth and development of the gnathic bone in infants, it is not possible to observe the processes of resorption of the bone and deciduous tooth root, bone formation and calcification of the permanent teeth separately. In the gnathic bone of infants where a normal balance exists between formation of new tissue and resorption, the formative bone tissue is closely related to the cells which give rise to the deciduous and the permanent teeth. We used a scanning electron microscope to observe the fine structure of the root resorption of the deciduous teeth, using root deciduous teeth extrac

The effect of maternal smoking on the timing of deciduous tooth eruption.

The mean age at the eruption of the first deciduous tooth was calculated for the 10,443 children of a birth cohort in 1966 in Northern Finland. Eruption was advanced by one week on average in the 1,559 children whose mothers had smoked during pregnancy, the difference between these and their controls being statistically significant. A regression analysis on the age at tooth eruption showed highly significant "explanatory" variables, in addition to maternal smoking, to be weight and height at birth and at 6 months, and gestational age, while place of residence on a north-south axis was of lesse

Radicular cyst associated with endodontically treated deciduous tooth: a case report.

This article presents a case report of radicular cyst associated with an endodontically treated deciduous second molar causing displacement of the permanent successor, with accompanying buccal expansion. Cystic sac was removed surgically along with the involved tooth under general anesthesia. Healing was uneventful. Histopathologically the cystic sac was consistent with the features of radicular cyst. Unusual amorphous, eosinophilic, atubular material incorporated within the cystic epithelium was observed.

[Changes of vibration frequency due to root resorption of deciduous tooth].

The purpose of this study was to investigate the changes of vibration frequency of a deciduous tooth due to physiological root resorption. The author developed an analysis system for tooth vibration by applying an impact-hammer to the tooth. Peak frequency (Hz) of the tooth stimulated by the impact-hammer was observed by the analysis system. The following results were obtained: 1) Peak frequency of the tooth vibration shifted to a lower range according to the root resorption both in vitro (simulation model) and in vivo (15 children) and a high positive correlation was found between the peak fr

[Delayed eruption of the premolar after pathological deciduous tooth root resorption].

The behaviour of eruption of lower premolars after pathological resorption of deciduous molar roots was examined on models and X-rays. The molars of the first dentition were shed earlier after pathological resorption of deciduous molar roots. Data of absence are measured in years in the presence of occlusal bone bridges. The middle values are more than three years. Eruption of permanent teeth happens years later or they remain impacted. Eruption dates of premolars after pathological deciduous root resorption and interruption of the lamina dura, and after physiological resorption are significan

Association of weight and height with timing of deciduous tooth emergence.

OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study was to associate weight and height with the timing of deciduous tooth emergence. METHODS: 1756 children, aged from 1 to 33 months (755 females and 1001 males) had been previously examined for the timing of deciduous tooth emergence and their weights and heights measured. Children were categorized into weight and height groups (underweight, normal, overweight, short stature, normal and tall stature). Probit regression analysis was used to calculate the ages at emergence of each deciduous tooth. Tooth emergence ages were compared pairwise across the weight and

EDA Variants Are Responsible for Approximately 90% of Deciduous Tooth Agenesis.

Deciduous tooth agenesis is a severe craniofacial developmental defect because it affects masticatory function from infancy and may result in delayed growth and development. Here, we aimed to identify the crucial pathogenic genes and clinical features of patients with deciduous tooth agenesis. We recruited 84 patients with severe deciduous tooth agenesis. Whole-exome and Sanger sequencing were used to identify the causative variants. Phenotype-genotype correlation analysis was conducted. We identified 54 different variants in 8 genes in 84 patients, including EDA (73, 86.9%), PAX9 (2, 2.4%), L

Localization of cathepsin K in bovine odontoclasts during deciduous tooth resorption.

Cathepsin K is a cysteine proteinase, which is abundantly and selectively expressed in osteoclasts. It is believed to play an important role in the proteolysis of bone resorption by osteoclasts. The objectives of this study were to investigate the association of cathepsin K in the physiological root resorption of deciduous teeth and to identify the cathepsin K-producing cells in deciduous root resorption. RT-PCR and Northern blot analysis of the total RNAs extracted from bovine active and resting root-resorbing tissues, which lie between the root of deciduous tooth and its permanent successor,
