Ectopic third molar tooth on the infratemporal surface of maxilla.

Ectopic eruption of a tooth within the dentate region of the jaws is often noticed in clinical practice and is well documented in the literature but the ectopic eruption into the non dentate region is rare. Diverse anatomical locations such as nasal cavity, nasal septum, mandibular condyle, coronoid process, the palate and the maxillary sinus can infrequently be non dentate sites of ectopic eruptions of teeth. While conducting an anthropometric study on 100 skulls incidental and interesting case of ectopic maxillary third molar tooth was found. The tooth was partially erupted with the unerupte

Ectopic tooth in maxillary sinus: Case series.

Ectopic eruption of a tooth within the dentate region of the jaws is often noticed in clinical practice and is well documented in the literature. But the ectopic eruption into the non dentate region is rare and scantly documented. The maxillary sinus is one such a non dentate region, apart from nasal septum, mandibular condyle, coronoid process and the palate, to accommodate such ectopic eruptions of teeth. Due to its rarity and lack of consensus over its management, the incidence deserves to be added to the literature and discussed. Early surgical intervention for removal of ectopic tooth alo

The Piston Elastic: A Novel Device for Treating Entrapped Ectopic Permanent Molars.

Ectopic eruption of the permanent molar may absorb the distal root of the primary second molar and may result in a decreased arch length or delayed eruption of the permanent tooth, requiring timely treatment. Therefore, we devised an effective and convenient method to unlock the entrapped tooth using a novel device called a "piston-elastic". This case report aims to explain the design and clinical application of this piston-elastic and to describe successful cases. Three patients (aged 6, 13, and 16 years) with ectopically erupted maxillary and mandibular molars, respectively, were treated wit

Brass wire ligation for treatment of the ectopic eruption of the mandibular second molar: a case report.

Ectopic eruption of the second permanent molar is a tooth replacement disorder during adolescence. If not treated in time, it can cause hard tissue of the adjacent first molar resorption, early tooth loss, decreased chewing efficiency, and other serious malocclusions. Timely detection and treatment of ectopic eruption of the second permanent molar are of great significance in preventing malocclusions in adolescents and establishing normal occlusion relationships. However, current case reports on the ectopic eruption of the mandibular second molar are relatively rare and are mostly concentrated

A case of combined dental development abnormalities: importance of a thorough examination.

This report describes a case of combined dental development abnormalities. A patient with a previous ectopically erupted supernumerary maxillary canine presented a new ectopically erupted supernumerary premaxillary tooth with dens invaginatus (Oehlers' type 2) and an aberrant coronal morphology, including a pit in the distal portion of the palatal surface. This tooth would have been diagnosed earlier if a panoramic radiograph had been taken at the first visit 5 months before. This case represents a good example of combined dental development abnormalities, i.e., a numerical anomaly (the supern

A deep-learning system for diagnosing ectopic eruption.

OBJECTIVES: To construct a diagnostic model for mixed dentition using a multistage deep-learning network to predict potential ectopic eruption in permanent teeth by integrating dentition segmentation into the process of automatic classification of dental development stages. METHODS: A database was established by reviewing 1576 anonymous panoramic radiographs of children aged 6-12 years, collected at the Stomatology Hospital, Zhejiang University School of Medicine. These radiographs were categorised as normal or ectopic eruption, with expert diagnoses serving as a benchmark for training and ev

Ectopic Mandibular Canine with Partial Anodontia - A Rare Case Report.

Ectopic eruption of the tooth is a developmental disturbance where the tooth does not erupt in a normal position. This may be due to arch length deficiency or due to, delayed or premature exfoliation of deciduous teeth, or a combination of the above. A total or complete absence of teeth is called true anodontia; if one or more teeth are missing, it is called partial anodontia. It can be syndromic or non-syndromic in occurrence. Here, we present a rare case of non-syndromic partial anodontia and ectopic eruption of permanent mandibular canine in a female patient.

Ectopically Positioned Tooth Piercing the Philtrum.

A variety of eruption disturbances arise during the transitional dentition period, which can be broadly classified as disturbances related to time and disturbances related to position. The occurrence of ectopic eruption is relatively common, but ectopically positioned tooth piercing the philtrum is a rare clinical presentation. This is a case report of a 70-year-old female who presented with the chief complaint of an abnormally positioned tooth piercing out from the upper lip to the Department of Oral and Maxillofacial Surgery, Karnavati School of Dentistry, Uvarsad, Gandhinagar, Gujarat, Indi

A family case report: disturbances in tooth form and eruption of the second premolar.

This report describes a family who demonstrated anomalies of tooth form and eruption of the lower second premolar. Observation of the second premolars remaining in the mother's and father's dentitions included ectopic eruption with impaction and substantial spacing between the first and second premolars. Four siblings were also examined--three boys aged 15, 14 and 12 years, and one girl aged 11 years. Anomalies of the second premolar recorded in the males and female include: congenital absence, ectopic eruption with impaction, delayed eruption and spacing. Associated anomalies included: congen

Treatment of ectopic mandibular second permanent molar with elastic separators.

Ectopic eruption is a developmental disturbance in which the tooth fails to follow its normal eruption pathway. Ectopic eruption of the second molar is relatively rare. This paper presents the case of thirteen-year-old male with an ectopic mandibular second permanent molar. The condition was corrected with surgical exposure and placement of elastic separators. This case report lays emphasis on the practice of basic methods to obtain acceptable results rather than extensive surgical or orthodontic corrections. It is advised that ectopic teeth should not be neglected especially when it concerns

Ectopic teeth with disparate migration: A literature review and new case series.

PURPOSE: Ectopic eruption can be defined as the emergence of a tooth in an abnormal location, where the tooth does not follow its typical eruption pathway. While ectopic eruption within the dentate region is well-documented in the literature, ectopic eruption in non-dentate regions is relatively rare. This study aimed to report 6 cases of ectopic teeth and present a systematic review of the English-language literature on ectopic teeth, emphasizing demographic characteristics, radiographic features, potential complications, and treatment options. MATERIALS AND METHODS: A literature search was

Ectopic eruption of a lower permanent molar from the mediaeval necropolis of Alcáçova do Castelo, Mértola, Portugal.

The mediaeval necropolis of Alcáçova do Castelo is located in Mértola, Southern Portugal, and dates from the 14th to the 16th centuries. The archaeological campaigns started in 1978 and continue today, having yielded more than 759 graves. This report discusses an ectopic tooth eruption observed in skeleton 535, an adult female individual. A distal right permanent lower molar presents an ectopic eruption at the posterior margin of the coronoid process. On the opposite side, the first and second permanent molars are present, the left permanent lower third molar is absent and the mandibular ramus

Dentigerous cyst associated with an ectopic third molar in the maxillary sinus: a rare entity.

Ectopic eruption of teeth into a region other than the oral cavity is rare although there have been reports of teeth in the nasal septum, mandibular condyle, coronoid process, palate, chin and maxillary sinus. Occasionally, a tooth may erupt in the maxillary sinus and present with local sinonasal symptoms attributed to chronic sinusitis. We present a case of an ectopic maxillary third molar tooth that caused chronic purulent sinusitis in relation to the right maxillary sinus.

Ectopic eruption of the second premolar: an analysis of four different treatment approaches.

PURPOSE: Ectopic second premolars may lead to impaction and loss of space in the jaws, and in rare cases even to resorption of the first permanent molar. The aim of this study was to analyse different treatment strategies of ectopic second premolars and if possible give guidelines on when to favour different treatment approaches. MATERIALS AND METHODS: The study was a retrospective, non-randomised, outcome analysis of treatment on 41 ectopic second premolars in 37 patients (24 females and 13 males). In all cases oral examination, radiographs (pre-, peri-, and post) and full medical history we

Ectopic mandibular third molar leading to osteomyelitis of condyle: a case report with literature review.

BACKGROUND: A tooth is said to be ectopic if it is malpositioned either due to congenital factors or displaced due to pathological lesions. The incidence of osteomyelitis of condyle has a rare occurrence, very few cases have been reported, either their etiology is unknown or is due to hematogenous spread or a tuberculous focus. This particular case may be a rare of its kind, as recent literature did not reveal any case where an ectopic mandibular third molar led to osteomyelitis of the condyle. CASE REPORT: This report presents a unique case where an ectopically placed mandibular third molar

Mucogingival interceptive surgery of buccally-erupted premolars in patients scheduled for orthodontic treatment. I. A 7-year longitudinal study.

BACKGROUND: Mucogingival interceptive therapy in patients with buccally erupting teeth is performed to prevent the ectopic permanent tooth from developing periodontal lesions. The keratinized tissue entrapped between the erupting tooth and the deciduous tooth is retained to maintain a satisfactory width of the gingiva for the permanent tooth. The aim of the present study on buccally-erupted premolars scheduled for orthodontics was to evaluate the keratinized tissue width 3 months, 2 years, and 7 years subsequent to mucogingival interceptive therapy and orthodontic treatment. METHODS: Twenty-n
