Assessing tooth mobility before and after miniscrew implantation for diagnosing root contact: a cadaveric animal study.

OBJECTIVE: To determine whether miniscrew-root contact can be diagnosed by assessing tooth mobility before and after miniscrew implantation. MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cadaveric pig mandibles were used, with 80 miniscrews placed mesial to the first premolars and distal to the fourth premolars. Maximum insertion torque (MIT) was measured for the first premolar miniscrews. Tooth mobility was assessed before and after implantation, and the Periotest Value difference (PTV-Diff) was calculated. Miniscrew-root distance (MS-R Dist) was measured using computed tomography. Spearman's rank correlations wer

Long-term follow-up of tooth mobility in maxillary incisors with orthodontically induced apical root resorption.

The aim of the study was to evaluate tooth mobility in relation to root length and alveolar bone support in maxillary incisors 10-25 years after orthodontic treatment, and to monitor the development during 5 years in a sub-sample. Thirty-six patients, seven males and 29 females with one or more severely resorbed maxillary incisors, a total of 139 teeth, were examined. At re-examination, 11 patients were older than 40 years, 20 were between 30 and 39, and five younger than 30 years. Root length, alveolar bone height, and crestal alveolar bone level were measured on standardized intraoral radiog

Management of Grade III Mobile Anterior Tooth in Function Using Endostabilizer - A Case Report.

Impact of implant dentistry is such that today very few dentists think about saving grade III mobile anterior teeth. A patient with grade III mobility of central incisor due to apical root resorption was treated by using 80 no.stainless steel 'H' file as endostabiliser and one year follow up was done. Endostabiliser reduced the mobility of grade III mobile teeth drastically, immediately after its placement. Tooth was absolutely asymptomatic throughout one year follow up.

Differential effect of social mobility on tooth loss by race in adulthood: 1982 Pelotas Birth Cohort Study.

OBJECTIVES: To examine the association between social mobility and tooth loss in adults from the 1982 Pelotas Birth Cohort Study and whether race modifies this association. METHODS: The Oral Health Study used data from 541 individuals who were followed up to 31 years of age. Social mobility, composed of the participants' socioeconomic position (SEP) at birth and at age 30, was categorized as never poor, upwardly mobile, downwardly mobile and always poor. The outcome was the prevalence of at least one tooth lost due to dental caries when the participants were examined at 31 years of age. The e

Effect of different labio-lingual spaces in tray designs on the displacement of and pressure against a mobile tooth.

The present study aimed to examine the effect of custom tray designs on the displacement of mobile tooth and local impression pressures during the impression procedure, using partially edentulous simulation models with six anterior teeth containing a mobile tooth prepared in previous studies. The custom trays were designed by altering the thickness of the respective spaces on the labial and lingual sides of the remaining tooth arch. In previous studies, the mobile tooth was displaced in the labial direction and local impression pressures of the mobile tooth were greater against the lingual sid

Impression pressures against teeth in a partially edentulous model with a mobile tooth: influence of impression tray design.

The purpose of the present study was to examine the effect of custom tray designs on local pressures against teeth during the impression procedure. In a previous study, a partially edentulous simulation model with a mobile tooth was used, and the effect of custom tray designs on the displacement of the mobile tooth was examined during the impression procedure. Based on that study's results, we have assumed that the differences in impression pressures between the labial and the lingual sides of a mobile tooth could either cause or affect displacement. The present study was undertaken to determi

Were there royal herds? Understanding herd management and mobility using isotopic characterizations of cattle tooth enamel from Early Dynastic Ur.

During the third millennium BC, Mesopotamia (the land between the Tigris and Euphrates Rivers, in modern Iraq-Syria), was dominated by the world's earliest cities and states, which were ruled by powerful elites. Ur, in present-day southern Iraq, was one of the largest and most important of these cities, and irrigation-based agriculture and large herds of domesticated animals were the twin mainstays of the economy and diet. Texts suggest that the societies of the Mesopotamian city-states were extremely hierarchical and underpinned by institutionalised and heavily-managed farming systems. Prevai

Intraoral scanning for immediate denture fabrication in a patient with an unstable fixed prosthesis and severe tooth mobility: A case report.

PATIENTS: Conventional impression taking for immediate denture fabrication may pose substantial risks to patients with unstable fixed prostheses or severely mobile teeth. This case report describes the use of an intraoral scanner (IOS) to obtain digital impressions and interocclusal records in a 74-year-old woman with an unstable maxillary full-arch fixed prosthesis and non-salvageable abutment teeth, which carry a substantial risk of prosthesis dislodgement, unintended extraction, or loss of the pre-extraction interocclusal relationship. Digital impressions were obtained without removing the

Influence of mobility on the long-term risk of tooth extraction/loss in periodontitis patients. A systematic review and meta-analysis.

The aim of this systematic review (SR) was to assess whether tooth mobility (TM) increases the risk of tooth extraction/loss. The protocol was registered in PROSPERO database (CRD42023485425). The focused PECO questions were as follows: (1) "In patients with periodontitis, undergoing periodontal treatment, are teeth affected by mobility at higher risk of being extracted/lost compared to non-mobile teeth, with a minimum follow-up of 10 years?" and (2) "In these patients, does varying degrees of tooth mobility increase the risk of tooth extraction/loss, with a minimum follow-up of 10 years?". Cementum thickening leads to lower whole tooth mobility and reduced root stresses: An in silico study on aging effects during mastication.

In the course of a lifetime the crowns of teeth wear off, cementum thickens and the pulp closes-in or may stiffen. Little is known about how these changes affect the tooth response to load. Using a series of finite element models of teeth attached to the jawbone, and by comparing these to a validated model of a 'young' pig 3-rooted tooth, the effects of these structural changes were studied. Models of altered teeth show a stiffer response to mastication even when material properties used are identical to those found in 'young' teeth. This stiffening response to occlusal loads is mostly caused

Stress overload-induced periodontal remodelling coupled with changes in high mobility group protein B1 during tooth movement: an in-vivo study.

High mobility group protein B1 (HMGB1), a bone-active cytokine and an osteocyte alarmin, might have dual functions in bone metabolism that could benefit bone formation and accelerate osteoclastogenic activity. High mobility group protein B1 was recently shown to be involved in tooth movement. Here, we investigated the expression of HMGB1, which remains poorly elucidated, under stress overload-induced periodontal remodelling conditions in vivo. Thirty-six Sprague-Dawley rats (male, 180-200 g) were randomly divided into three groups: two experimental groups, in which 50 or 100 g of force was app

A life course approach to total tooth loss: Testing the sensitive period, accumulation, and social mobility models in the Health and Retirement Study.

OBJECTIVES: Childhood socio-economic status (SES) has long been associated with later-life oral health, suggesting that childhood is a sensitive period for oral health. Far less attention has been given to the long-term impact of childhood trauma, abuse, and smoking on later-life oral health. This study fills the gap in the literature by examining how adverse childhood experiences-social, psychological, and behavioral-shape total tooth loss over the life course, with an assessment of the sensitive period, accumulation, and social mobility models from life course research. Potential role of high mobility group box protein 1 and intermittent PTH (1-34) in periodontal tissue repair following orthodontic tooth movement in rats.

OBJECTIVES: Recent studies indicate that high mobility group box protein 1 (HMGB1) can be released by necrotic and damaged cells and functions as an alarmin that is recognized by the innate immune system. Little is known about the role of HMGB1 within the periodontal ligament (PDL). Therefore, we examined HMGB1 expression by PDL cells in vitro and compared the findings to an in vivo model of orthodontically induced tooth root resorption. In addition, we addressed the question of whether a potentially anabolic intermittent administration of parathyroid hormone (iPTH) would modulate the expressi

The effects of variations in the opposing dentition on changes in the partially edentulous mandible. Part III. Tooth mobility and chewing efficiency with various maxillary dentitions.

Tests were conducted using a mobilometer to determine the effects of the opposing dentition on mobility of selected teeth in the partially edentulous mandible. In addition, the effect of the opposing dentition and the presence or absence of a lower removable partial denture on chewing efficiency was evaluated. Results indicated an increase in mobility of abutment teeth following placement of removable partial dentures. The mobility decreased as the teeth became stabilized by the removable partial dentures. The amount of mucosal and bone-contour change was directly related to the degree of mobi

[Diagnostics of tooth supporting structures].

The aim of the study was to assess alveolar bone resorption in patients with periodontal disease and individuals with normal periodontal status and coordinate resorbtion rates with tooth mobility. Tooth mobility was measured in 19 patients with periodontal disease and 17 healthy individuals by two-parametrical periodontometry in two different positions: in equilibrium and after pre-loading. The level of bone resorption was determined by periodontal probe. Previously unknown correlation between tooth mobility and alveolar bone resorption was found out meaning that bone atrophy can be determined
