The noncollagenous proteins, especially phosphoprotein, have been shown to modulate biomineralization. The objective of this study was to investigate the remineralization potential of human tooth root organic matrices which did or did not contain soluble non-collagenous proteins including phosphoprotein. Human tooth roots were completely demineralized using conditions that either removed or did not remove soluble phosphoprotein and were then subjected to remineralization conditions. Removal of soluble phosphoprotein resulted in remineralization while no remineralization occurred in tooth roots

BACKGROUND: The prevalence of total dental caries (untreated and treated) in primary or permanent teeth increases with age, going from 21.4, 50.5, and 53.8% among ages 2-5, 6-11, and 12-19, respectively. Dental caries is a dynamic process of demineralization and remineralization, and the use of various topical and systemic fluoride- and nonfluoride-based remineralizing agents can help replenish lost ions, promoting remineralization and further decreasing the prevalence of caries.
OBJECTIVES: The aim of this study is to formulate the grape seed extract-containing tooth mousse and to compare it

AIM AND BACKGROUND: Dental caries is the most prevalent oral healthcare problem worldwide, especially in pediatric patients. To manage dental caries, typical oral hygiene methods are not enough in many cases. So as to regenerate the tooth structure, remineralization is required. Thus, the aim of this in vivo study was to evaluate the antimicrobial efficacy and salivary pH change with CurodontTM Protect and compare it with an effective remineralizing agent, GC Tooth Mousse.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Both the GC Tooth Mousse (group I) and the CurodontTM Protect remineralizing agent (group II) were

Increasingly, sweeteners are being used in the diets of caries-prone individuals to reduce sugar intake. Such substitution deprives the bacteria in the dental plaque of the sugars many of them use to produce the acids that cause demineralization of tooth tissue and development of the caries lesion. Sweeteners are particularly effective replacements for dietary sugars because they also stimulate the flow of saliva which can, through several mechanisms, prevent demineralization and even bring about remineralization of already demineralized enamel, dentine or cementum. More saliva means that more

Bioactive glass nanoparticles synthesized by flame spray synthesis were tested for their remineralization capabilities in vitro. After artificial demineralization with EDTA, human dentin was treated with 20-50nm size bioactive glass nanoparticles or a micrometer-sized, commercial reference material (PerioGlas) for up to 30 days. The degree of remineralization was measured using quantitative gravimetric methods (thermogravimetry, elemental analysis) and element-sensitive scanning electron microscopy imaging to detect new mineral precipitated on or within the demineralized tooth matrix. Enamel white spot lesions (WSLs) are usually caused by the dissolution of minerals (mainly calcium and phosphate) on the tooth surface due to the acidic environment in the oral cavity. Without timely intervention, WSLs may lead to white spots or a sense of transparency on the tooth surface, and even the formation of dental caries (tooth decay) in severe cases. The key to preventing and treating WSLs is inhibiting the activity of acid-producing bacteria and promoting the remineralization of demineralized enamel. In this study, the network structure formed by sodium tripolyphosphate (TPP) cross-

BACKGROUND: Initial carious lesions are reversible, and fluoride-containing reagents effectively promote enamel remineralization in these initial lesions. Numerous remineralizing agents are available, some containing fluoride and others containing alternatives because of fluoride toxicity concerns. The objective of this study was to investigate the effects of the following remineralizing agents: fluoride varnish (5% NaF, Duraphat®), casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate paste (CPP-ACP, Tooth Mousse®), and casein phosphopeptide-amorphous calcium phosphate fluoride paste (CPP-ACPF, T

Dental caries is an infection of the mineralized tooth structures that advances when acid secreted by bacterial action on dietary carbohydrates diffuses and dissolves the tooth mineral leading to demineralization. During treatment, clinicians often remove only the superficial infected tooth structures and retain a part of affected carious dentin to prevent excessive dentin loss and pulp exposure. Calcium hydroxide is used to treat the affected dentin because it is alkaline, induces pulp-dentin remineralization and decreases bacterial infection. Presence of strontium ions has also been reported

The role of proteolytic enzymes in the root caries process remains unclear. The aim of this study was to investigate collagenase activity during tooth root demineralization and remineralization in an in vitro demineralization/remineralization pH-cycling model, Human tooth roots were subjected to pH cycling (alternating demineralization and remineralization) in one of two different time cycles for five days. Collagenase at 90, 180, or 360 micrograms per root was placed into either the demineralizing solution or the remineralizing solution in the pH-cycling system. The effects of additional expo

Dental caries is the most prevalent chronic disease globally, significantly impacting individuals' quality of life. A key reason behind the failure of implanted restorations is their biological inactivity, meaning they are unable to form crosslinks with the surrounding tooth structures, thus making patients susceptible to implant loss and recurrent tooth decay. For the treatment of caries, antibacterial medicine and remineralization are effective means of treating the recurrence of caries. Owing to the rapid progression in the biomaterials field, several biomaterials have been reported to disp

Caries prevention and enamel remineralization are two critical facets of oral health that involve a multifaceted approach. Prevention strategies reduce the incidence of new caries, whereas remineralization treatments address existing caries in early stages of mineral loss. Fluoride in different forms, such as water fluoridation, toothpaste, rinses, varnish, and trays, can prevent caries and remineralize affected tooth structure but may have potential health considerations at high dosages. Hydroxyapatite is added to some toothpastes with limited evidence of prevention but possible advantages fo

Dentine remineralization is important for the treatment of dentine caries and the bonding durability of dentine and resin materials in clinical practice. Early studies of dentine remineralization were mostly based on the classical pathway of crystallization, which involves large-scale deposition of calcium phosphate crystals on collagen and is achieved in a liquid environment containing mineral ions. Results from these studies were unsatisfactory and not suitable for clinical application because they did not simulate the ordering of hydroxyapatite in the collagen fibres of natural teeth. As st

A previous study showed that a sodium hexafluorosilicate-calcium chloride-based two-solution fluoride (F) rinse containing 6 mmol/l of F was more effective than a 12 mmol/l F sodium fluoride rinse in depositing F on tooth surfaces and increasing oral F levels. The present study compared the remineralization effects of these two rinses in an intraoral de- and remineralization model. The results showed that the 6 mmol/l F two-solution rinse produced greater remineralization in increasing lesion mineral contents and reducing lesion depths. The results demonstrated that the effectiveness of an F r

OBJECTIVES: Dentin remineralization is a complex process that involves the crystallization of exposed collagen to restore the mechanical properties of demineralized dentin. It plays an essential role in managing dental caries and erosive tooth wear. Collagen cross-linkers have emerged as a promising strategy to enhance the stability of exposed collagen while facilitating mineral deposition. This scoping review evaluated the role of collagen cross-linkers in dentin remineralization.
DATA: This scoping review was conducted following the PRISMA-ScR guidelines.
