INTRODUCTION: On 08 May 2003, a tornado categorized as an F-3 on the Fujita Tornado Scale (the "F Scale") struck an Oklahoma City, Oklahoma commuter bus carrying 24 passengers. The driver evacuated several passengers before the tornado struck. The tornado rolled the bus, and pelted it with debris.
METHODS: A case-series investigation of tornado-related injuries was conducted among passengers who were evacuated to a ditch and those who remained on the bus when the tornado struck.

OBJECT: A large volume of patients presented to a Level I pediatric trauma center during and after a recent tornado disaster. Injuries of the central and peripheral nervous systems and the medical responses of a pediatric neurosurgical team are reviewed.

When an F3 tornado severely damaged a hospital in Americus, GA, all patients had to be evacuated through the emergency department. Fifty-three patients were evacuated by area ambulances and a school bus to other hospitals in the region. The hospital advises others to have an internal evacuation plan as well as two-way radios, a megaphone to direct staff and volunteers, and additional security. A temporary treatment area was set up at a local church.

OBJECTIVES: To study injury patterns and medical rescue operations related to tornadoes that occur in rural areas, this study investigated the data pertaining to the 2017 Chifeng tornado (China).
METHODS: Medical records of 52 tornado-related patients were investigated. Data were collected from 3 local hospitals that received all the tornado victims.

A case of a tornado victim with a delayed presentation of injury to the aortic isthmus is discussed. Tornado forces resemble the forces of high energy explosions, and the injuries that can occur as a result of these forces can be bizarre. The patient presented with the unique computed tomography (CT) findings of isolated pseudoaneurysm of the thoracic aorta in the absence of other traumatic injury to the thorax. Equivocal results of the initial CT aortogram (CTA) were confirmed with ECG-synchronized CTA (ECG-CTA), demonstrating the superiority of ECG-CTA as compared to standard CTA.
