Acute and sub-acute toxicological evaluation of a bioactive compound mixture in healthy Wistar rats.

The increasing interest in bioactive compounds necessitates a thorough understanding of their in vivo safety profiles before they are developed as therapeutic drug leads. The present study aimed to evaluate acute and sub-acute toxicological effects of a compound mixture composed of garcinol, piperine, butyl oleate, pipnoohine, and bismurrayanimbine, combined in a molar mass ratio of 9:33:1:4:1 at the doses of 10 mg kg-1, 25 mg kg-1, and 50 mg kg-1 in healthy Wistar rats, following Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development guidelines. A single oral dose of the compound mixture (10

Acute and sub-acute toxicological studies on the ethanol leaf extract of Psidium guajava in experimental mice.

INTRODUCTION: Psidium guajava (guava) is an important medicinal plant used for gastrointestinal disorders, diabetes, and inflammation, primarily due to its bioactive compounds including flavonoids and tannins. To ensure safety for human use, rigorous preclinical toxicity assessments are essential. The purpose of this study was to assess the safety of ethanol extract of Psidium guajava (EEPG) by acute and subacute toxicity tests. METHODS: Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) 425 recommendations were used for the acute toxicity investigation in mice, while OECD 407 guid

Safety assessment and exploration of the mechanism of toxic effects of diallyl trisulfide: Based on acute and subacute toxicity and proteomics experiments.

ETHNOPHARMACOLOGICAL RELEVANCE: Garlic (Allium sativum L.) is a widely consumed spice and condiment around the world, applied both as a food and as a traditional medicine, and is a natural strengthening agent for the body's circulatory and nervous systems. Diallyl trisulfide (DATS) is the major volatile organosulfur phytochemical found in garlic, with antithrombotic, anticoagulant, and antiplatelet activities as well as antioxidant, anti-infective, and other pharmacological effects. However, the safe dose and the underlying mechanisms of its toxic effects remain elusive. AIM OF THE STUDY: DAT

Sub-acute and acute toxicity of Ferula asafoetida and Silybum marianum formulation and effect of the formulation on delaying gastric emptying.

BACKGROUND: Delayed gastric emptying play an important role in the pathology of functional dyspepsia. Owing to their functional attributes in alleviating the gastrointestinal disorders, single or polyherbal formulations have gained attention to treat the symptoms of functional dyspepsia. We have investigated the safety and efficacy of a novel formulation of Ferula asafoetida oleo resin and standardized Silybum marianum extract (Asdamarin). METHODS: The effect of asdamarin on delayed gastric emptying was investigated in Sprague Dawley rats using phenol red method. The acute and sub-acute oral

Single acute and repeated subacute toxicity evaluations of Annona atemoya leaf extract with in vitro anti-inflammatory potential.

The nutraceutical and biological potential of Annona atemoya, a fruiting plant, has been reported. We and others have demonstrated that A. atemoya leaf extract (AAL) has various pharmacological properties, such as antioxidant, antimicrobial, and neuroprotective effects. However, knowledge about the safety and potential toxicity of AAL remains limited. We aimed to assess the potential toxicity of AAL using acute and repeated subacute oral toxicity tests in rats. In both acute and repeated subacute toxicity test, no AAL-related behavioral abnormalities or changes in mortality, food intake, body

Phenolic profile, in vitro antioxidant and safety evaluation of extract obtained from Citrus maxima Burm. Merr. seeds.

Citrus maxima (Burm). Merr. (CM) has been extensively documented worldwide for its diversified ethno-pharmacological activities. Although the seeds have been previously evaluated for their anxiolytic, analgesic and anti-inflammatory properties, they have not been extensively studied, unlike other plant parts. This study investigates the phytochemical composition and oral toxicity profile of ethanolic seed extract of CM (EESCM) in male and female balb/c mice. TPC and HPLC analyses confirmed the presence of phytoconstituents like naringin, caffeic acid, and hesperidin. Acute toxicity testing inv

Subacute toxicity of Chrozophora Tinctoria extract: biochemical and histopathological changes in rats.

The increasing use of medicinal plants in traditional and modern therapies necessitates thorough toxicological evaluations to ensure their safety. Chrozophora genus includes 7-8 species that belong to the Euphorbiaceae family, distributed in Pakistan, India, West Africa, and the Mediterranean with four species found in the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia (KSA). This study evaluates the subacute toxicity of the ethyl acetate extract (EtOAcE) of Chrozophora tinctoria in male and female rats. Over 14 days, rats were daily administered the extract at doses of 50, 100, and 200 mg. Mortality was observed at

Acute and Subacute Toxicity Study of α-Arbutin: An In Vivo Evidence.

α-Arbutin, a glucoside of hydroquinone, is utilized as a skin-lightening agent that inhibits human tyrosinase activity. Although it exhibits antioxidant and anti-inflammatory properties, limited research exists on its toxicological effects. This research investigates the oral toxicity of α-arbutin in both acute and subacute settings using Sprague-Dawley rats as test subjects. Female Sprague-Dawley rats underwent acute oral toxicity testing in accordance with OECD TG 425 guidelines. The rats received oral doses of 175, 550, 1750, and 2000 mg/kg. Additionally, a subacute oral toxicity study foll

Acute and subacute oral toxicity of copper oxide nanoparticles in female albino Wistar rats.

The extensive use of copper oxide nanoparticles (CuO-NPs) in various industries and their wide range of applications have led to their accumulation in different ecological niches of the environment. This excess exposure raises the concern about its potential toxic effects on various organisms including humans. However, the hazardous potential of CuO-NPs in the literature is elusive, and it is essential to study its toxicity in different biological models. Hence, we have conducted single acute dose (2000 mg/kg) and multiple dose subacute (30, 300 and 1000 mg/kg daily for 28 days) oral toxicity
