Effect of Refined Perioperative Nursing on the Efficacy of Noninvasive Ventilation in Elderly Patients with Lung Cancer and Respiratory Failure.

NIV (noninvasive ventilation) is becoming more popular as a first-line treatment for older patients with lung cancer who are experiencing acute respiratory failure. In the ICU, older age is linked to worse results with mechanical breathing. When dealing with severely sick patients, noninvasive ventilation is beneficial. Due to the risk of NIV failure and the higher mortality induced by delayed intubation, it is difficult to apply to older patients, especially those with lung cancer and respiratory insufficiency. As a result, for a successful outcome, nurse interventions should be provided to p

Unmasking the predicament of cultural voyeurism: a postcolonial analysis of international nursing placements.

The growing interest in international nursing placements cannot be left unnoticed. After 11 years into this twenty-first century, violations of human rights and freedom of speech, environmental disasters, and armed conflicts still create dire living conditions for men and women around the world. Nurses have an ethical duty to address issues of social justice and global health as a means to fulfil nursing's social mandate. However, international placements raise some concerns. Drawing on the works of postcolonial theorists in nursing and social sciences, we examine the risk of replicating colon

Lost in Translation: A Qualitative Study Into U.S. School Nurses' Perspectives on Language Barriers and Student Health.

Language barriers present challenges in the school health office, particularly for students and families with limited English proficiency (LEP). This study examines how these barriers affect school nurses' ability to deliver effective healthcare and their perceptions of how language may affect student health. This qualitative descriptive study includes semistructured interviews with 16 school nurses. The data were analyzed through qualitative content analysis. The analysis revealed one overarching theme, Communication Inconsistencies Require Adapting in the Moment, with three subthemes: Access

Experiences of gynaecological cancer among immigrant women in a transcultural context: A meta-synthesis.

PURPOSE: Global immigration has increased the number of immigrant women with gynecological cancer. These women encounter challenges in adapting to a new culture and language while coping with their illness. However, research on their experiences in a transcultural nursing context is limited. Therefore, this study aimed to explore the lived experiences of immigrant women with gynecological cancer in a transcultural context. METHOD: Four electronic databases (PubMed, CINAHL, PsycARTICLES, and EMBASE) were searched for English-language articles published up to October 2025. Of the 3596 articles,

[New nutritional screening tool for hospitalized patients with chronic kidney disease: translation, cross-cultural adaptation of Renal iNUT into Spanish and comparison with classic questionnaires].

Introduction: Chronic kidney disease (CKD) is characterized by its high prevalence of malnutrition, difficult to detect as it is underestimated by the usual tools. There is no valid or hospital-level nutritional screening tool in Spanish to identify patients with CKD at risk of malnutrition. Objective: to translate and accomplish the transcultural adaptation of Jackson's questionnaire (Renal Inpatient Nutrition Screening Tool [Renal iNUT]) to Spanish, which detects the risk of malnutrition in CKD inpatients and compares it with other nutritional tools. Methods: phase 1: translation, back-trans

Experiences of a Taiwanese nurse in the United States.

PURPOSE: To explore and interpret the lived experience of a Taiwanese nurse working in a U.S. hospital. METHOD: Hermeneutic phenomenology was applied to obtain information through in-depth telephone interviews. FINDINGS: Four themes emerged from the analysis and interpretation: (a) frustration in language and communication; (b) cultural differences in patient care; (c) support from work environment; and (d) advantages of working in the U.S. nursing system. The main issue causing the participant's unhappiness was the language and communication barrier. CONCLUSIONS: These findings are relevan

[Understanding and providing proper care for migrants and their children].

Giving birth to a child in exile and then raising that child in a transcultural setting - that is, in a context different from the one in which one grew up - is a situation that requires parents and professionals alike to draw on a wide range of resources. The well-being of migrant parents and their children depends on this collaboration. It is therefore essential to have a clear understanding of one another in order to best support the development of these children of migrant parents.

Ethnic Identity as a Mediator Between Cultural Involvement and Life Satisfaction: A Cross-Sectional Study of Andean Indigenous Adults.

INTRODUCTION: Acculturation processes threaten Indigenous well-being and cultural continuity. Guided by Leininger's transcultural nursing theory, this study examined whether ethnic identity mediates the relationship between cultural involvement and life satisfaction among Lickanantay adults in northern Chile. METHODS: A cross-sectional correlational design was used with 320 Lickanantay adults (56.3% women; Mage = 40.8). Participants completed validated measures of life satisfaction, cultural involvement, and ethnic identity. Structural equation modeling using weighted least squares maximum li

Evidence-based nursing: effects of a structured nursing program for the health promotion of Korean women with Hwa-Byung.

The objectives of this study were to develop a culturally tailored nursing program for patients with Hwa-Byung (HB) and to test the effects of the nursing intervention. The structured nursing intervention program was based on a transcultural theoretical framework in which patients with HB received therapies consisting of music therapy, drama, and group therapy. Hwa-Byung is a culture-bound syndrome, literally translated as anger syndrome, attributed to the suppression of anger. Individuals experience a decrease in quality of life as a result of insufficient treatment. Current health care progr

Use of Culture Care Theory with Baganda women as AIDS caregivers.

In Uganda, AIDS patients are increasingly cared for at home by women in their traditional role of family caregiver. This transcultural nursing study utilized Leininger's (1991) Culture Care Theory to discover the meanings, patterns, and expressions of AIDS caregiving for Baganda women. Ethnonursing, supported by life history and Leininger's (1988, 1990, 1991, 1993) Sunrise Model, was used to discover care among 12 key and 25 general Baganda informants providing AIDS caregiving to family members at home. In-depth interviews were conducted with informants selected from home-based nursing care pr

The culture of female circumcision.

The issue of female circumcision takes on special significance as more women migrate to the United States from countries where the practice has religious and traditional underpinnings. Female circumcision is a problem unfamiliar to most Western health care practitioners. This article describes an ethnographic study of the types of female circumcision, the reasons for and against the practice, the health implications of this practice, and cultural attitudes of circumcised women both in Western Africa and as migrant refugees living in the United States. Ethical dilemmas in dealing with this prac

Culturally Responsive Counseling and Tuberculosis Treatment Adherence: Development and Validation of an Integrated Model.

Background/Objectives: Tuberculosis (TB) treatment adherence remains suboptimal globally, contributing to relapse, transmission, and drug-resistant TB. Adherence is a culturally embedded behavioral process shaped by psychological readiness, social relationships, and structural conditions. This study aimed to validate a culturally grounded counseling model integrating the Sunrise Model of transcultural nursing and the Information-Motivation-Behavioral Skills (IMB) framework for TB treatment adherence in Kupang City, Indonesia. Methods: A cross-sectional study enrolled 172 pulmonary TB patients

The objective of this study is to carry out a transcultural adaptation and piloting of the "Regarding Blood-Sampling Practices at Primary Health Care Centres" questionnaire as regards blood sampling in Primary Care. For this, a cross-sectional descriptive study has been developed within the Primary Care area of the Andalusian Public Hea
