Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells (TREM) like transcript-1 (TLT-1) is a membrane protein receptor found in α-granules of megakaryocytes and platelets. Upon platelet activation TLT-1 is rapidly relocated to the surface of platelets. In plasma, a soluble form of TLT-1 (sTLT-1) is present. Plasma levels of sTLT-1 are significantly elevated in thrombotic diseases. In the present study, we investigated to whether TLT-1 reflects platelet activation in pregnant women with preeclampsia. We studied 30 preeclamptic patients who were matched with 30 normotensive pregnant women and 30 non-pre

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) is a member of the immunoglobulin superfamily and is mainly expressed on the surface of myeloid cells such as monocytes, macrophages, and neutrophils. It plays an important role in the triggering and amplification of inflammatory responses, and it is involved in the development of various infectious and non-infectious diseases, autoimmune diseases, and cancers. In recent years, TREM-1 has also been found to participate in the pathological processes of several central nervous system (CNS) diseases. Targeting TREM-1 may be a promising str

INTRODUCTION: The low-grade inflammatory state present in obesity leads to the development and perpetuation of comorbidities associated with obesity. Our laboratory has been working for several years on an amplification loop of the inflammatory response mediated by TREM-1 (Triggering Receptor of Expressed on Myeloid Cells-1). It is implicated in many acute (septic shock) and chronic (IBD) inflammatory diseases. Previously, TREM-1 has been shown to be overexpressed in adipose and liver tissue in obese and diabetic patients, but its impact has never been characterized in these pathologies.

Marburg virus (MARV) and Ebola virus (EBOV), members of the viral family Filoviridae, cause fatal hemorrhagic fevers in humans and nonhuman primates. High viral burden is coincident with inadequate adaptive immune responses and robust inflammatory responses, and virus-mediated dysregulation of early host defenses has been proposed. Recently, a novel class of innate receptors called the triggering receptors expressed in myeloid cells (TREM) has been discovered and shown to play an important role in innate inflammatory responses and sepsis. Here, we report that MARV and EBOV activate TREM-1 on h

BACKGROUND AND OBJECTIVE: Periodontitis is an infectious disease in which the host immune and inflammatory responses play essential roles in resistance to bacterial infection, as well as the induction of tissue destruction if the immune response is dysregulated. The triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells (TREMs) modulates inflammatory and innate immune signaling. TREM-1 is considered as an amplifier of the immune response, while TREM-2 is a negative regulator that has yet to be explored in periodontal disease before. We hypothesized that TREMs participated in the innate immune response

BACKGROUND: Malaria elicits inflammatory responses, which, if not well regulated, may exert detrimental effects. When activated, triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM-1) enhances inflammatory responses by increasing secretion of IL-8 and other Th1 cytokines. In contrast, TREM-like transcript 1 (TREML-1) promotes anti-inflammatory responses by binding to TREM-1 ligands and competing with TREM-1, thus antagonizing TREM-1 activation to reduce inflammation. Endothelial protein C receptor (EPCR) also mediates anti-inflammatory responses by activating endothelial protein C (PC). Upo

The Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid cells 1 (TREM-1) is a cell-surface receptor of the immunoglobulin superfamily, involved in the propagation of the inflammatory response to bacterial challenge. Soluble (s)TREM-1 is released from the cell surface during the course of infection and is a useful inflammatory biomarker in the early diagnosis of systemic sepsis. The hypothesis of this study was that oral and systemic levels of sTREM-1 are elevated in periodontitis. Therefore, the aim was to investigate, by ELISA, the sTREM-1 concentrations in saliva and serum of individuals without period

AIMS: TREM-1 (Triggering Receptor Expressed on Myeloid cells-1) is an immunoreceptor expressed on neutrophils and monocytes/macrophages whose role is to amplify the inflammatory response driven by Toll-Like Receptors engagement. The pharmacological inhibition of TREM-1 confers protection in several pre-clinical models of acute inflammation. In this study, we aimed to decipher the role of TREM-1 on the endothelium.
METHODS AND RESULTS: We first showed by qRT-PCR, flow cytometry and confocal microscopy that TREM-1 was expressed in human pulmonary microvascular endothelial cells as well as in mo

OBJECTIVE: Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells 1 (TREM-1), which amplifies the inflammation elicited by the Toll-like receptor pathway, was originally implicated in sepsis and bacterial infection. However, it has been suggested that TREM-1 may also play an important role in non-infectious inflammation. The present study was conducted to investigate whether TREM-1 is involved in human acute gouty inflammation.
METHODS: A total of 37 gout patients were recruited between March 2011 and January 2014 from Seoul St Mary's Hospital. The expression of TREM-1 on mononuclear cells was assess

Triggering receptor expressed on myeloid cells-1 (TREM-1) is a recently identified molecule involved in the amplification of inflammation. To determine the regulation of TREM-1, we studied TREM-1 expression and soluble TREM-1 plasma levels upon i.v. LPS challenge in healthy humans in vivo and in vitro. Granulocyte TREM-1 expression was high at baseline and immediately down-regulated upon LPS exposure along with an increase in soluble TREM-1. Monocytes displayed a gradual up-regulation of TREM-1 upon LPS in vivo and in vitro. In vitro studies extended these findings to highly purified lipoteich
