All women aged 35 and 40 resident in one municipality in the Uusimaa province of Finland were invited for a breast examination. Hundred and thirty-eight of the subjects were 35 years old and 95 were 40 years old. Examination was performed by ultrasonography. Mammary glands were observed to contain normal glandular tissue or to have an increasingly fibrotic structure in 69.6% of the younger age group and in 72.6% of the older age group; a mastopathic structure was observable in 54.3% and 46.3%, respectively. Local findings such as solid tumors and cysts (greater than or equal to 3 mm) were pres

We report the case of a 42-year-old woman being treated for an ovarian cancer who was diagnosed at the age of 40. A CT-positron emission tomography (PET) scan performed as follow-up documented abnormal uptake in the right breast. Mammograms were negative for malignancy, while a focal hyperechoic lesion was observed on ultrasonography in the same breast. Thus, she was referred to our institution for breast MRI, which showed a focal area of enhancement with atypical features. Percutaneous biopsy was performed, and a mammary hibernoma was diagnosed. Radiological and pathological correlation was p

Subclavian artery stenosis can cause a flow reversal-so-called steal-not only in the ipsilateral vertebral artery, but also in the internal mammary artery in patients with a history of coronary-artery bypass grafting. Subclavian artery stenosis is also associated with peripheral artery disease elsewhere. We report a novel finding of axillo-femoral bypass steal due to subclavian artery stenosis identified by vascular ultrasonography.

CASE PRESENTATION: We describe a case of left internal jugular central venous access with rare malpositioning into the internal mammary vein. Despite various confirmatory measures at the time of placement including ultrasonography of the internal jugular vein, as well as blood gas analysis consistent with venous blood by oxygen saturation and good venous flow in all three ports of the catheter, subsequent imaging confirmed misplacement into the internal mammary vein.
DISCUSSION: Central venous access is a frequently used procedure by emergency physicians for a variety of indications. Emergenc

BACKGROUND: Subclinical mastitis in buffaloes is a major hidden constraint to milk quality and herd productivity, as it develops without obvious clinical signs and frequently escapes early diagnosis. The vascular and molecular alterations accompanying early disease remain poorly characterized.
OBJECTIVES: The objective of this study was to provide a comprehensive assessment of subclinical mastitis in buffaloes by integrating ultrasonographic imaging (B-mode and Doppler), inflammatory gene expression (TLR4, IL-6, and SAA), and clinicopathological parameters, aiming to enhance early diagnosis,

The ultrasonography of the breast is an essential technique in the diagnosis of mammary disease as mammography and fine needle aspiration. Ultrasound is extremely reliable in differentiating cystic from solid lesions. Three signs are the most significant in the diagnosis between benign tumors and well circumscribed cancer: shape and margins of the mass, depth/width ratio, feature of the connective tissue and adjacent structures. In association with mammography, sonography is most likely significant in breast screening cancer.

Accessory breast tissue is remnant mammary gland tissue resulting from a failure of regression during the embryonic development and can occur anywhere along the mammary ridge. Patients with accessory breast tissue may also have chest submammary accessory breasts, which are rare and painless, but are often removed for cosmetic reasons. Herein, we report the clinical characteristics and treatment of patients with chest submammary accessory breasts. This retrospective study included 104 women who had undergone liposuction for chest submammary accessory breast from January 2014 to December 2019. c

The aim of this report is to highlight the risk of anabolic androgenic steroid-induced gynecomastia in young men involved in nonagonistic sports and the role of ultrasonography in its diagnosis. The authors describe two cases of gynecomastia in nonprofessional weight lifters with histories of AAS use. In both cases, the diagnosis was based on patient history and clinical findings, but the sonographic examination confirmed the clinical suspicion and excluded the presence of other types of disease associated with mammary-gland enlargement in men.

Understanding the evolution of proliferative breast disease such as atypical hyperplasia and carcinoma in situ is essential for clinical management of women diagnosed with these lesions. Therefore, an animal model that faithfully represents human breast disease in every aspect from spontaneity of dysplasia onset, histopathologic features, and genetics to clinical outcome is needed. Previously, we studied canine spontaneous atypical hyperplasia and ductal carcinoma in situ (low, intermediate, and high grade) and reported their similarities to human lesions in histopathologic and molecular featu

Granulomatous mastitis (GM) is a chronic inflammatory breast disease characterized by non-caseating granulomatous inflammation and a prolonged, recurrent clinical course. Basic research on GM has been limited by the lack of well-characterized and reproducible animal models. This study aimed to establish and characterize a modified rat model of GM using sequential antigen-adjuvant stimulation. Human GM lesion tissue homogenate was used as the antigen source. Female Sprague-Dawley rats were assigned to Control, complete Freund's adjuvant (CFA), incomplete Freund's adjuvant (IFA), and Mix groups.

Mammary Paget's disease (MPD) is a rare breast carcinoma represented with an eczematoid cutaneous manifestation. Imitating inflammatory or infectious diseases, it makes early diagnosis and prompt treatment difficult. Non-invasive imaging examinations such as reflectance confocal microscopy (RCM) could extend assistance in making a diagnosis because of its near-cellular resolution in skin diseases. Herein, the RCM feature of two cases of MPD, and the corresponding dermoscopy, ultrasonography examination and immunohistochemistry staining results were described.

A 66-year-old woman visited a local hospital complaining of abdominal pain and fever. Blood tests and abdominal computed tomography revealed perforation of the gastrointestinal tract due to sigmoid colon cancer and generalized peritonitis. The patient was referred to our hospital for emergency surgery. Preoperative computed tomography revealed a mass shadow in the left mammary gland and right lung fields. Breast ultrasonography revealed an 8 mm irregular mass in the left mammary gland; the mass was diagnosed as primary breast cancer through a needle biopsy. The lung tumor was diagnosed as prim

Gynecomastia is a size increase of man's breast, due to non neoplastic ductal and glandular stroma proliferation. Prevalent ductal proliferation defines the "florid" type, while prevalent stroma increase defines the "quiescent" type. Pseudo-gynecomastia is a non glandular volume increase. Sonography is able to recognize the different parts of normal male breast and to diagnose gynecomastia. Moreover by sonography we can distinguish three echo-patterns linked to the anatomopathologic pattern which can lead therapy.

Vulval fibroadenoma is a rare benign neoplasm mimicking mammary fibroadenoma, with limited cases reported earlier. Its origin is still debatable, linked to either ectopic mammary tissue or specialized anogenital glands. Similar to breast fibroadenoma, it usually presents as a painless, firm, well-circumscribed mass and responds to hormonal changes during menstruation, pregnancy, or lactation. Its diagnosis relies on core needle biopsy or fine needle aspiration cytology, while treatment involves surgical excision with clear margins to prevent a recurrence. We report a 33-year-old woman with a p

PURPOSE: The purpose of this study was to evaluate the adjunctive diagnostic value of breast ultrasonography (US) in the study of benign ductal breast disease.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Fifty-two patients underwent US examinations for bloody nipple discharge, palpable retroareolar masses, retroareolar opacities or ductal pattern on mammography. US enabled visualisation of mammary-duct ectasia (simple or pseudocystic, retroareolar and/or peripheral) and focal masses (endoluminal or periductal, with ill-defined or regular margins). All patients with nipple discharge underwent cytological evaluatio

INTRODUCTION: Vibro-acoustography (VA) is a recently developed imaging modality that is sensitive to the dynamic characteristics of tissue. It detects low-frequency harmonic vibrations in tissue that are induced by the radiation force of ultrasound. Here, we have investigated applications of VA for in vivo breast imaging.
METHODS: A recently developed combined mammography-VA system for in vivo breast imaging was tested on female volunteers, aged 25 years or older, with suspected breast lesions on their clinical examination. After mammography, a set of VA scans was acquired by the experimental
