Statistical studies were made on 1,859 outpatients, 587 inpatients and 601 operative procedures at our department in 1987. The most frequent diseases among the outpatients were urogenital infections followed by anomalies, tumors and stones. Almost 3000 (2969) paediatric urological procedures carried out by three paediatric surgeons over a 3-year period have been analysed. Almost half of the patients were managed as day cases. The content of the work has been examined and the implications for continuing patient care, surgical training and the desirable paediatric infrastructure noted. Inguinoscrotal operations, surgery for hypospadias and ureteric reimplant for vesicoureteric reflux are the commonest "open" operations. Most paediatric urological procedures will continue to be done by a variety of surgeons of different specialties.

INTRODUCTION: The rate of surgical site infection is a good indicator of the quality of care in surgical departments. Antibiotic prophylaxis represents a measure of proven efficiency in preventing the infection in a surgical site, and its fulfilment is a main goal in management contracts of health services. The efficiency of this preventive measure requires the existence of updated protocols and performance evaluation.
OBJECTIVE: To evaluate the compliance of this antibiotic protocol in our Urology Department with the global analysis of the causes of inadequate prophylaxis and by procedures.

Statistical studies on 2,040 new outpatients, 575 inpatients and 570 operative procedures at our department in 1982 revealed the following. The statistics of urological operations performed at our department between Jan., 1, 1982 and Dec., 31, 1986 were reviewed. During the 5 year period, 2331 patients were admitted to our hospital and 2192 urological operations were performed on 1834 patients.
