[Partial uterine rupture--case report].

We have presented a case of partial rupture of the uterus along the left margin with both lamina of the broad uterine ligament torn off and tear of the left ovarian proper ligament in a 32-year-old patient in 36 weeks gestation. The patient, with no history of either surgery on the uterine muscles or incidents of abdominal trauma, presented with no contractions. She was qualified for an emergency laparotomy, underwent Caesarean section and the rupture of the uterine muscle was sutured. 14 days after surgery the mother and her baby were discharged from hospital in overall good condition.

Uterine rupture and perinatal outcome.

BACKGROUND: In view of the increasing number of caesarean sections (CS), we wanted to investigate the clinical aspects of uterine rupture including perinatal outcome. METHODS: A retrospective investigation of 24,181 deliveries at Stockholm South General Hospital between 1999 and 2004. Patient notes from cases with ICD-codes 0710 and 0711 were studied together with charts from previous deliveries and neonatal data from the Paediatric Department. RESULTS: Some 22 cases of uterine rupture were found, giving an incidence of 0.9 per 1,000 deliveries. In all cases, the diagnosis was confirmed at l

[Uterine rupture after tubal reimplantation].

The authors report a case of rupture of the right cornu of the uterus in the ninth month of pregnancy in a woman who had had her right tube implanted into her uterus. This complication is considered, in the discussion, to be rare. It is very difficult to prevent it happening during pregnancy. It would seem that a prophylactic caesarean operation should be carried out if the insertion of the placenta is in the area of the implantation.

[Changing risks in uterine rupture].

Between 1975 and 1981 7 cases of rupture of the uterus were observed at this department with an incidence of 1:1200. In all cases therapy consisted of hysterectomy: There was no maternal death, one child died within 24 hours after delivery. Rupture of the uterus remains a serious complication. Careful attention to risk factors, the avoidance of traumatizing obstetric operations and the judicious use of oxytocics should further reduce the incidence of rupture of the uterus.

Uterine rupture and vacuum extraction.

Eleven uterine ruptures occurred among 11415 vacuum extractions, and these cases are analysed. Cervical tears extending into the lower uterine segment or into the broad ligament occurred in 4 cases, lower segment tears in 6 and a fundal tear in 1. One patient died of respiratory failure. The possible cause of uterine rupture with vacuum extraction appear to be a combination of an unengaged fetal head, an incompletely dilated cervix and an undetected mild cephalopelvic disproportion especially in grandmultiparae, dehiscent or weak uterine scars, prolonged traction without progress, manipulation

Fertility after complete uterine rupture.

PURPOSE OF REVIEW: This review will address fertility and pregnancy outcome in women with history of uterine rupture. RECENT FINDINGS: Increasing rates of primary Cesarean delivery and vaginal birth after one or more Cesarean sections will lead to higher rates of uterine rupture. Recent advances in reproductive medicine, open fetal surgery and gynecological surgery may also play a role in increasing uterine rupture rate. The implementation of the American College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists and Royal College of Obstetricians and Gynecologists guidelines on birth after Cesarean section

Uterine rupture associated with VBAC.

Uterine rupture during attempted vaginal birth after cesarean is a rare, but serious complication and can result in death or long-term disability. Several factors can increase the risk of uterine rupture during vaginal birth after cesarean and adequate counseling is necessary. Current literature suggests that timely diagnosis and delivery of the fetus is necessary for optimal outcome.

Uterine rupture in Dohuk, Iraq.

Rupture of the uterus is a serious obstetric emergency endangering the life of both mother and fetus. In a study at the general hospital in Dohuk, Iraq, from January 2003 to December 2004, the incidence of ruptured uterus was 0.2% (42 out of 20 574 deliveries). The majority of these women (81%) were unbooked and had had no antenatal care. The range of parity was 1-13, median 7. The main causes were obstructed labour and previous caesarean scar (36% of cases each). The maternal mortality rate among these cases was 5% and the perinatal mortality rate was 62%. Improvements are needed in antenatal

Uterine rupture: preventable obstetric tragedies?

BACKGROUND: Although ruptured uterus is nowadays a rare obstetric emergency in Western countries, it is still alarmingly common in developing countries, where it remains a major cause of maternal mortality and morbidity. AIMS: To review the recent experience of uterine rupture at a tertiary obstetric unit in eastern Nepal and to recommend improvements in the current management of labour, especially obstructed labour, in a poorly resourced country. METHODS: All cases of uterine rupture managed from March 2002 to March 2006 were identified retrospectively, and details were retrieved from medic

Fetal strangulation following uterine rupture.

A woman who was 30 weeks pregnant was sitting with a three-point seat belt fastened in the front passenger seat of an automobile that was involved in a head-on collision. On admission to hospital, the fetus was found in a breech position with the fetal head situated just beneath the mother's liver. Laparotomy had to be performed 4 h later and the fetus was found to have been completely expelled from the uterine cavity through a rupture in the fundus uteri. The findings in the fetus suggest that the head was expelled first, and that the fetus was then strangled by uterine contractions. The sign

Fetomaternal outcome of scarred uterine rupture compared with primary uterine rupture: a retrospective cohort study.

OBJECTIVES: Literature comparing maternal and perinatal outcomes among women with scarred and primary uterine rupture are limited. Therefore, the study aimed to compare maternal and perinatal outcomes and associated risk factors of uterine rupture among scarred and unscarred uterus. METHODS: This retrospective cohort study was performed at a large tertiary care of India between July 1, 2011 and June 30, 2020. We analysed all the cases of complete uterine rupture beyond the 20th week of gestation. The outcome measures were live birth rate, perinatal mortality, maternal mortality and morbidity.

Uterine rupture after uterine artery embolization for symptomatic leiomyomas.

BACKGROUND: There are few data regarding safety of pregnancy after uterine artery embolization. However, numerous women desire future fertility after this procedure. Uterine rupture without a history of cesarean delivery or uterine scarring is an exceedingly rare complication in pregnancy. CASE: We report a case of uterine rupture in a primigravid woman after uterine artery embolization. Her pregnancy was also complicated by placenta previa with placenta increta, resulting in a favorable neonatal outcome in an otherwise life-threatening situation for mother and fetus. CONCLUSION: Uterine art

Prelabor uterine rupture after laparoscopic repair of uterine perforation.

Uterine rupture is an established risk of previous uterine trauma. Conventionally this has been considered most likely following prior classical or midline hysterotomies at cesarean section or subsequent to abdominal myomectomy in which the uterine cavity was breached. Although there are reports of such cases after laparoscopic procedures such as myomectomy the incidence is believed to be very small. We present an extreme case of uterine rupture at 27 weeks with a previous laparoscopically repaired uterine perforation.

Rupture of uterine serosal hematoma: delayed complication of uterine perforation.

Uterine perforation, a major complication of dilatation and curettage (D&C), is typically recognized at the time of the procedure. Large defects in the uterine wall or injury to other intraabdominal organs can result in an acute abdomen requiring immediate surgical treatment. On the other hand, small perforations usually resolve on their own without any long-term consequences. Here, the authors report a case of delayed hemoperitoneum, ten days after the D&C evacuation of an early pregnancy. Initially, intramural pregnancy was the suspected etiology. However, histopathology suggested that the i
