[Hexavalent combined vaccination].

Since January 2004, hexavalent combined vaccines are available in Belgium. They protect children simultaneously against 6 diseases (poliomyelitis, diphtheria, tetanus, pertussis, invasive infections with Haemophilus influenzae type b and hepatitis B) and reduce the number of needed injections. Acellular pertussis vaccine is the corner-stone of the combination. Theoretically, only 5 visits and 6 injections are needed to complete the vaccination of the children. In addition to the reduction of injections and consequently a better comfort for the child, Hexavalent vaccination favours an increase

Epidemiological views into possible components of paediatric combined vaccines in 2015.

Efforts to develop combined vaccines for childhood immunization schedules will during the next years focus on combined administration of the existing vaccines which have already shown their impact. First candidate components for more wide-spectrum combinations could be the new antigens against severe invasive infections caused by encapsulated bacteria. Multivalent pneumococcal and meningococcal group A and C conjugate vaccines are already in clinical trials, and the same is true of the first candidates for the meningococcal group B vaccine. Pneumococcal conjugate vaccines are also important in

[Combined vaccines including 1 or several anti-foot-and-mouth valences].

Combined vaccines are used for many human and animal diseases. However, we have very few examples of combinations containing anti-foot-and-mouth valence which would allow easy immunization against differnet diseases without additional handling. Until now foot-and-mouth vaccination has been applied simultaneously with anti-brucellic vaccination (Baldoni, Renoux), andi-anthrax (Nobili) and vaccination against swine fever and Aujeszky's disease (Lysenko). During the last ten years we have particularly studied the association of anti-foot-and-mouth disease vaccines with anti-brucella and anti-rabi

Combined DNA vaccines formulated in DDA enhance protective immunity against tuberculosis.

This study evaluated the adjuvant Dimethyldioctyldecyl Ammonium Bromide (DDA) effect on the protective immunity induced by a combination of plasmids containing genes encoding antigens Ag85B, MPT-83, and ESAT-6 from Mycobacterium tuberculosis. The combined DNA vaccines in DDA resulted in significant increases in both specific IgG and splenic T-cell-derived Th1-type cytokine gamma interferon (IFN-gamma) production in response to the three purified antigens when compared to that of combined DNA vaccines in saline. Vaccines in DDA increased the protective efficacy of mice challenged with M. tuberc

Combination vaccines consisting of acellular pertussis vaccines.

Combination vaccines consisting of multiple vaccine antigens delivered in a single injection simplify vaccine administration. Combining multiple antigens into one injection, however, presupposes that the administration of multiple vaccines in combination will not reduce the safety and immunogenicity of the component vaccines. New generation vaccines seek to combine many more antigens from multiple, different pathogens, making them difficult to study in controlled, double blind, randomized clinical trials because of the number of study arms required for complete evaluation. Methods to simplify

Combined schedules of pneumococcal conjugate and polysaccharide vaccines: is hyporesponsiveness an issue?

Streptococcus pneumoniae is a major cause of morbidity and mortality in children less than 5 years of age. Prevention of pneumococcal disease and death in children in the developing world through vaccination with recently developed, highly efficacious pneumococcal conjugate vaccines (PCVs) is now possible. Schedules combining PCV with 23-valent pneumococcal polysaccharide vaccine (PPV23) have been studied and proposed as a means to expand disease protection against serotypes not included in the PCVs. Studies of group A and C meningococcal polysaccharide vaccine and repeated doses of PPV23 in a

Quality control of diphtheria tetanus acellular pertussis combined (DTaP) vaccines in Japan.

Diphtheria tetanus acellular pertussis combined (DTaP) vaccines have been successfully used in Japan by controlling their potencies and toxicities with animal models. In accordance with the recent practical introduction of DTaP vaccines of various formulations, a question has been raised in other nations as to the efficacy of a quality control system based on animal tests and standard preparations. The World Health Organization issued its guidelines on the production and quality control of acellular pertussis vaccines in 1998 along with the concept of quality control by ensuring that productio

Control testing of combined vaccines: a consideration of potential problems and approaches.

Vaccines comprising combinations of diphtheria, tetanus and pertussis (DTP) components with Haemophilus influenzae b polysaccharide--protein conjugates (DTP-Hib) are now available. Combinations of DTP-Hib with additional components such as inactivated poliomyelitis vaccine, hepatitis B vaccine, meningococcal and pneumococcal polysaccharide-protein conjugates are under development. Other combinations, such as Hib vaccine with meningococcal A, B and C components and possibly pneumococcal conjugates, or non-capsulated Haemophilus components combined with pneumococcal conjugates, developed against

Safety and immunogenicity of a measles, mumps, rubella and varicella vaccine given with combined Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate/hepatitis B vaccines and combined diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis vaccines.

BACKGROUND: A study was conducted to assess administration of a combination measles, mumps, rubella and varicella vaccine (MMRV) with other childhood vaccines. METHODS: In this open, multicenter trial, 1915 healthy children ages 12-15 months were randomized into 3 groups: group 1, MMRV, combined Haemophilus influenzae type b conjugate-hepatitis B vaccines (Hib/HepB) and combined diphtheria-tetanus-acellular pertussis vaccines (DTaP) concomitantly; group 2, MMRV followed by Hib/HepB and DTaP 42 days later; group 3, MMR and varicella vaccine followed by Hib/HepB and DTaP 42 days later. Impact of MMRV combination vaccine on childhood vaccination compliance.

OBJECTIVE: To assess the impact of using the combined measles, mumps, rubella, and varicella vaccine (MMRV) instead of the measles, mumps, and rubella vaccine and the varicella vaccine separately (MMR+V) on uptake of vaccines recommended by the Advisory Committee for Immunization Practices (ACIP) in young children. STUDY DESIGN: Retrospective cohort study. METHODS: Electronic immunization records of children 12 to 15 months of age who received either MMR+V (n = 29,716) or MMRV (n = 29,711) between November 2003 and June 2007 while enrolled in Kaiser Permanente Southern California were evalua

Liposomes as adjuvant for combination vaccines.

In the present study tetanus toxoid (TT) loaded liposomes and diphtheria toxoid (DT) loaded liposomes were prepared by reverse phase evaporation method and after combining these two vaccines the potential advantages were investigated. Prepared systems were characterized for the size, shape and entrapment efficiency. SDS-PAGE analysis of TT and DT was also performed. The selected liposomal formulations were administered subcutaneously to Balb/c mice and their immune responses were determined using ELISA after 15, 30, 45 days. After boosting the maximum immune response was observed after 45 days

Evaluating the safety of combination vaccines.

The development of combination vaccines is important to facilitate protection of people from potentially life-threatening infectious diseases. As with all vaccines, the safety of these products is of critical importance. Although combination vaccines generally include components that have been studied and used previously, the possibility of new or more severe reactions arising from combining components cannot be dismissed. Controlled safety studies are needed for new combination vaccines to determine reliably whether risks are increased compared with administration of individual components. Su

Combination vaccines for childhood immunization.

An increasing number of new and improved vaccines to prevent childhood diseases are being introduced. Combination vaccines represent one solution to the problem of increased numbers of injections during single clinic visits. This statement provides general guidance on the use of combination vaccines and related issues and questions. To minimize the number of injections children receive, parenteral combination vaccines should be used, if licensed and indicated for the patient's age, instead of their equivalent component vaccines. Hepatitis A, hepatitis B, and Haemophilus influenzae type b vacci
