Sibutramine (reductil®)-induced cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis: a case report.

A 24-year old woman presented with hemorrhagic vesicles on her legs. She had taken sibutramine (Reductil®, Abbott Labs., Seoul, South Korea) for 3 months and developed skin lesions the week before. A skin biopsy showed leukocytoclastic vasculitis with conspicuous eosinophilic infiltration of the tissue. These lesions showed improvement after discontinuation of sibutramine. However, 3 months later the skin lesions recurred on other sites on the lower extremities when the patient was rechallenged with the same drug for 2 weeks. Herein, we report the first case of necrotizing vasculitis induced b

Bullous systemic lupus erythematosus with cutaneous mucinosis and leukocytoclastic vasculitis.

A 38-year-old man with systemic lupus erythematosus had nodular cutaneous mucinosis, leukocytoclastic vasculitis, and a vesiculobullous eruption. Immunopathologic study of a bullous lesion revealed granular deposits of IgA and IgG along the basement membrane zone. Localization of immune deposits to the lamina and sublamina densa was confirmed by immunoelectron microscopy.

Polyangiitis overlap syndrome: cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis associated with polyarteritis nodosa.

A rare case of polyangiitis overlap syndrome is described. The patient was a 25-year-old man who had palpable purpura on his legs which showed leukocytoclastic vasculitis, and polyarteritis nodosa. Superior mesenteric arteriography showed microaneurysms in jejunal branches with focal segmental necrotizing arteritis of small and medium sized muscular arteries in the jejunum. Deposits of IgA and C3 in the superficial blood vessels of the lesional skin were consistent with the features of Henoch-Schönlein purpura. The patient died about two months after initial admission in spite of cytotoxic age

Cryoglobulinemia and cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis associated with hepatitis C virus infection.

Hepatitis C virus infection is a frequent cause of non-A, non-B hepatitis worldwide. Resultant morbidity is significant; chronic liver disease develops in 50% of infected persons. Since serologic testing has become available there have been several reports of cutaneous findings in association with hepatitis C virus infection, including vasculitis, cryoglobulinemia, urticaria, and lichen planus. We describe a patient with cryoglobulinemia, chronic cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis, and hepatitis C virus infection. Hepatitis C virus infection should be included in the differential diagnosis

Pazopanib-Induced Cutaneous Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis: An Exclusion Diagnosis of a Multidisciplinary Approach.

In phase II/III trials, cutaneous side effects of pazopanib were reported in less than 20% of patients, with only 1-3% being grade 3/4. We present a case of a 66-year-old man with a previous history of left nephrectomy for a stage II clear cell renal carcinoma. Approximately 18 months later, recurrent disease in the lungs, mediastinum, and left psoas and bulky abdominal/pelvic nodal metastasis were documented. He was initially treated with pazopanib 800 mg q.d. and 1 week after starting this therapy, the patient presented with palpable purpura on his ankles. These lesions regressed within 2 we

Leukocytoclastic vasculitis as a cutaneous manifestation of systemic infection caused by Brucella melitensis.

A 22-year-old man with leukocytoclastic vasculitis as a cutaneous manifestation of brucellosis is presented. Skin lesions resolved 48 hours after starting treatment with tetracycline and rifampicin. Although skin manifestations are rarely associated with infection due to Brucella and do not seem to worsen the prognosis, they may cause the patient to seek medical attention as well as contribute to the diagnosis.

A Rare Cutaneous Manifestation: Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis after Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 Vaccination.

There is growing evidence that vaccines against SARS-CoV-2 can cause various skin reactions, many of which have autoimmune origins. These specific vaccine-induced autoimmune conditions with cutaneous manifestations include lupus erythematosus, bullous pemphigoid, vitiligo, alopecia areata, and leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV). In particular, LCV, which is also called hypersensitivity vasculitis, is an inflammation of small blood vessels. We present a case of an 81-year-old male evaluated in the emergency department for a bilateral purpuric non-blanching rash that appeared ten days after recei

Amiodarone-induced cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis: a case report and a review of the literature.

Amiodarone can be used in a variety of arrhythmias. Given its widespread use, the probability of clinicians encountering its cutaneous adverse effects is high. A few cases of amiodarone-induced cutaneous vasculitis were reported in the literature, probably because it is underdiagnosed in clinical practice. Indeed, amiodarone-related cutaneous reactions may present a wide range of manifestations and are sometimes difficult to diagnose. Herein, we report a case with a sizeable necrotic ulcer on the left lower leg shortly after amiodarone exposure. A rigorous diagnostic study was performed before

Behçet's syndrome complicated by cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Response to prednisone and chlorambucil.

Traditionally described as a triad consisting of recurrent aphthous stomatitis, genital ulcerations, and uveitis, Behçet's syndrome is now recognized as a multisystem disease with protean manifestations. We studied a patient with chronic recurrent migratory superficial thrombophlebitis and marked cutaneous hyperreactivity (pathergy) who developed leukocytoclastic vasculitis with recalcitrant leg ulcerations nine years after the onset of his illness. Although he was treated with topical and systemic antibiotics for presumed bacterial superinfection, cutaneous ulcerations continued to develop an

Cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis with hyperglobulinemia and splenomegaly. A variant of hyperglobulinemic purpura of Waldenström.

Patient with hepatosplenomegaly and recurrent small purpuric lesions of cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis was found to have a polyclonal elevation of gamma-globulin and a persistently elevated ESR. Circulating immune complexes were detected that support the concept of a postulated immune complex pathogenesis. Indomethacin therapy was ineffective, but prednisone therapy resulted in notable clinical improvement and the return of elevated immunoglobulin levels to the normal range. Patients with hyperglobulinemic purpura, which may be a subset of leukocytoclastic vasculitis, should be examined

A case of pathologically confirmed streptococcal infection-related IgA vasculitis with associated glomerulonephritis and leukocytoclastic cutaneous vasculitis.

We report the case of an 80 year-old woman who developed bilateral lower extremity purpura and renal impairment with proteinuria a few days after a transient fever (day 0). High levels of both anti-streptolysin-O antibody (ASO) and anti-streptokinase antibody (ASK), as well as low levels of coagulation factor XIII in serum were noted. Skin biopsy was performed and showed a leukocytoclastic vasculitis with deposition of IgA and C3 in the cutaneous small vessels, indicating IgA vasculitis in the skin. After initiation of oral prednisolone, the skin lesions showed significant improvement. However

Dengue associated with severe cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis and pericardial effusion: a case report.

Dengue is a viral disease, caused by an arbovirus of the genus Flavivirus. In Brazil, its incidence rate is high with a broad clinical spectrum. This report discusses a rare case of dengue associated with cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis and pericardial effusion with eminence of cardiac tamponade in a previously healthy patient with no comorbidities. The serology for dengue was positive and the histopathological analysis of the cutaneous lesions confirmed the diagnosis of leukocytoclastic vasculitis. After receiving treatment, the patient's condition greatly improved.

Leukocytoclastic Vasculitis Caused by Disseminated Cutaneous Sporotrichosis: A Case Report and Review of the Literature.

Cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis (CLV) is a vasculitis that involves mainly small blood vessels in the skin. CLV has different causes (drugs, infections, or neoplastic or systemic inflammatory diseases). Sporotrichosis has rarely been associated with CLV. We report a case of disseminated cutaneous sporotrichosis caused by microorganisms in the Sporothrix clade in a Chinese woman with a tuberculous peritonitis history. Her lesions included many ulcers with crusts on the limbs. A skin biopsy yielded a histologic diagnosis of leukocytoclastic vasculitis. Periodic acid-Schiff and Grocott meth

Fatal necrotizing Candida esophagitis in a patient with leukocytoclastic cutaneous vasculitis and ankylosing spondylitis.

Esophageal infection by Candida spp. is a common opportunistic entity in immunocompromised hosts; however, systemic fungal dissemination due to perforation or transmural necrosis, also known as necrotizing Candida esophagitis (NCE), is rare. We report the case of a 61-year-old male patient with diagnosed ankylosing spondylitis, severe arteriosclerosis, and vasculitis under immunosuppressive therapy who presented NCE with fungal and bacterial septicemia diagnosed at autopsy. Necrotizing esophagitis is a rare manifestation of Candida infection, which may be a final complication in severely ill p

Cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis associated with erlotinib treatment: A case report and review of the literature.

Erlotinib is a targeted anticancer therapy used for treating epidermal growth factor receptor (EGFR) mutation positive lung cancer in advanced stage as well as for other malignancies. The most common cutaneous side effect of erlotinib, are well documented; however the number of reports regarding cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis (CLCV) are limited. We report a case, a 58-year-old, 60 kg weight, non-smoking woman suffering of lung adenocarcinoma and brain metastases treated with erlotinib monotherapy with 150 mg/day dose, who presents cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis after 8 months of

Segmental cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis associated with herpes zoster: a case report and literature review.

Varicella zoster virus (VZV) infection may cause large or medium vessel vasculitis, including granulomatous arteritis of the nervous system and central nervous system vasculitis. However, small vessel vasculitis, such as cutaneous leukocytoclastic vasculitis (LCV) associated with localized cutaneous VZV infection, herpes zoster, is uncommon. Herein, we present the case of a 75- year-old man with segmental leukocytoclastic vasculitis associated with herpes zoster on the leg. To the best of our knowledge, there are four cases of segmental leukocytoclastic vasculitis in herpes zoster reported in
