Effectiveness of voice therapy in reflux-related voice disorders.

Gastroesophageal reflux (GER) with laryngopharyngeal reflux plays a significant role in voice disorders. A significant proportion of patients attending ear, nose, and throat clinics with voice disorders may have gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD). There is no controlled study of the effect of voice therapy on GERD. We assessed the effect of voice therapy in patients with dysphonia and GERD. Thirty-two patients with dysphonia and GERD underwent indirect laryngoscopy and voice analysis. Esophageal and laryngeal symptoms were assessed using the reflux symptom index (RSI). At endoscopy, esopha

Voice handicap index change following treatment of voice disorders.

Outcome measurements of voice disorders is an important new area for both the evaluation of voice-disordered patients and evaluation of treatment efficacy. The Voice Handicap Index (VHI) measures the patient's perception of the impact of his or her voice-disorder. The VHI was used in this study to measure the changes of the patient's perception following treatment for four different voice disorders. The VHI showed a significant change following treatment for unilateral vocal fold paralysis, vocal cyst/polyp, and muscle tension dysphonia. Results of this paper indicate that the VHI is a useful

[The measurement of voice quality and voice capacity to penetrate background noise and multidimensional voice program].

The paper presents a method of measuring the vocal penetrating capacity under conditions of masking voice. The noise consists of a frequency mixture of vowels in combination with voiced and unvoiced consonants. The comprehensibility of the test matrix is measured with respect to the capacity of the voice to penetrate background noise. The results of the measurement, which are based on more than 1,000 patients, show a significant correlation between the vocal inset phase of the voice status and the patient's subjective assessment of his ability to increase loudness of the duration of vocal use

Effect of FFP2/3 Masks on Voice Range Profile Measurement and Voice Acoustics in Routine Voice Diagnostics.

INTRODUCTION: Voice diagnostics including voice range profile (VRP) measurement and acoustic voice analysis is essential in laryngology and phoniatrics. Due to COVID-19 pandemic, wearing of 2 or 3 filtering face piece (FFP2/3) masks is recommended when high-risk aerosol-generating procedures like singing and speaking are being performed. Goal of this study was to compare VRP parameters when performed without and with FFP2/3 masks. Further, formant analysis for sustained vowels, singer's formant, and analysis of reading standard text samples were performed without/with FFP2/3 masks. METHODS: T

Multimodal Voice Pathology Detection With Voice Signal and Integrated Electroglottographic (EGG) Signal From the Saarbrücken Voice Database.

A powerful tool for communication, emotion, and artistic expression, the human voice plays a vital role in human interaction. However, approximately 25% of individuals globally experience voice disorders, often due to occupational strain, leading to significant challenges in communication and quality of life. This work proposes an automated, non-invasive system for detecting voice pathologies using voice and electroglottographic signals. The analysis focuses on high-pitched /a/ vowel sounds and spoken phrases from the Saarbrücken Voice Database, comprising both healthy and pathological samples

Hearing voices and listening to what they say: the importance of voice content in understanding and working with distressing voices.

The content of auditory hallucinations is sometimes dismissed as having little diagnostic/therapeutic importance. There is growing evidence that voice content may be crucial to understanding and working therapeutically with this experience. The aim of the present study is to explore, in a general population sample, the content and impact of voice-hearers' auditory hallucinations. A self-selected sample of 154 participants completed questionnaires about voice-hearing. A subsample of 50 participants completed semi-structured interviews. Participants experienced a range of voice content of high p

Analysis of voice quality parameters in patients with vestibular voice.

Vestibular voice includes participation of larynx structures which are absent in physiological process. Vestibular phonation may be desired when vocal folds are damaged as in paralytic dysphonia, or undesired in marginal hyperfunction. Vestibular voice may result from psychogenic dysphonia - phononeurosis. The aim of the study is perceptive evaluation of vestibular voice, objective larynx visualization, acoustic and aerodynamic examination. The study included 40 patients: 20 with vestibular voice, 20 with euphonic voice. Voice quality has been evaluated using perceptual GRBAS scale. Endoscopic

Basics of voice dysfunction--etiology and prevention of voice damage.

Voice is one of the most important means of communication and as such should be taken care of. The etiology of voice disorders is diverse. Due to the development of the society we live in, way of life, environmental factors, and exposure to pharmacological agents as well as demands we make towards our voice, there is a substantial growth in the number of people with voice disorders. We tasked ourselves to find out if it is possible to enlighten people on the importance of voice, to motivate them to take care of it, to notice the changes in its quality and eventually ask for help. We assessed i

Social anxiety, voice confrontation and voice recognition: A bilingual exploration.

Many people dislike the sound of their voices, especially when listening back to audio recordings (voice confrontation). Previous research reports that disliking the sound of one's voice is associated with elevated levels of social anxiety. The present study investigated the relationship between social anxiety and voice dislike and voice misrecognition among a bilingual population: Arabic (L1) and English (L2). Participants (N = 176) completed self-report measures of social anxiety and own voice liking. Additionally, they performed a novel own voice recognition task, assessing their ability to

PVR-Vocoder: A Pathological Voice Repair Vocoder for Voice Disorders.

Vocoder-based speech synthesis has become a promising technique to accommodate the demands of high-quality speech analysis, manipulation, and synthesis. However, most existing works focus on how to synthesize normal human voice with high signal-to-noise ratio, neglecting individuals' pathological voice disorder in speech interaction. In this work, we propose a non-linear voice repair vocoder for pathological vowels and sentences, which takes the pathological speech as input and generates high-quality repaired speech. Our approach is specifically designed to enhance the speech quality and intel
