METHODS: In 2007, a 25-item web-based questionnaire about experiences of verbal and/or physical abuse while on duty was distributed to 1211 paediatric residents at all training levels from 25 paediatric programmes.

INTRODUCTION: The majority of research that has explored workplace violence has focused on establishing the prevalence of violence in different settings. In general, there is a paucity of research that explores factors that may predict or increase the risk of experiencing violence in the workplace.
OBJECTIVE: The aim of this research was to determine predictors of violence for paramedics.
METHODS: A questionnaire was developed that focused on paramedics' experiences with six forms of violence: verbal abuse, property damage/theft, intimidation, physical abuse, sexual harassment, and sexual as

OBJECTIVES: Within our emergency medical services (EMS) agency, workplace violence (WPV) is captured through a documentation feature in the electronic medical record. Leveraging this data, we implemented WPV dispatch alerts for addresses where physical violence occurred. Our primary objective was to assess the association of these alerts on the rate of WPV against EMS clinicians.
METHODS: This observational cohort study took place 11/20/2022-11/20/2024 at a hospital-affiliated EMS agency with 23,300 average annual ground calls for service. Alerts were implemented on 12/26/2023 and consisted o

BACKGROUND AND AIM: Any harmful act Physical, sexual, or psychological committed against the nurses in the workplace by a patient or visitor is called workplace violence (WPV) against nurses. WPV is directly related to decreasing job satisfaction, burnout, humiliation, guilt, emotional stress, intention to quit a job, and increased staff turnover. The purpose of this narrative review is to explore the concept of WPV, its prevalence, consequences, influence on nursing, and strategies developed to prevent such incidences. WPV is not acceptable and, regardless of the culprit's physical or psychol

OBJECTIVE: To develop and assess the psychometric properties of a nursing workplace violence experience (WPV-E) scale on burnout, engagement, intent to leave, job satisfaction, and work pressure.
BACKGROUND: Workplace violence (WPV) is a significant and increasing threat to nurses. These incidents have a substantial negative impact on nurses' well-being and patient care. There is a need for a concise and reliable instrument to more comprehensively assess WPV-E in nurses.
METHODS: Researchers used a 4-phase approach, including item generation, interrater reliability testing, data reduction, a

IMPORTANCE: Workplace violence (WPV) against health care workers (HCWs) is common and likely underreported. Reliable data on the incidence of WPV and its impact on victims are lacking.
OBJECTIVE: To prospectively define the frequency of WPV against HCWs in the emergency department (ED), examine whether HCW demographics are associated with increased risk, and explore the impact of these events on HCWs.
DESIGN, SETTING, AND PARTICIPANTS: This cross-sectional study was conducted over 2 months in 2023 (August 28 to October 22, 2023) in the ED of a large, urban, academic safety net hospital in th

We adopted self-administered questionnaire developed by International Labor Office, International Council of Nurses, World Health Organization (WHO), and Public Servi

Questions concerned employees' experiences of violence at work in the previous year and perceptions of the organizational safety climate. Logistic regressions examined staff interaction and safety climate factors associated with verbal and physical violence, respectively.
RESULTS: Interpersonal conflict was a risk factor for verbal violence (OR 1.49, 95% CI 1.04 to 2.12, P <

Violence and aggression in health care settings is an ill-defined and under-reported problem. Early risk assessment, adequate training and information of health care workers, and specific monitoring tools (such as the Violent Incident Form, VIF) are necessary for risk management.

BACKGROUND: Workplace violence (WPV) is a growing issue in health care with far-reaching consequences for health workers' physical and psychological well-being. While some medical specialities like emergency medicine have always been considered at higher risk for WPV, several studies have also reported its occurrence in radiology.
AIMS: This systematic review aimed to comprehensively synthesize the types of WPV in radiology, its psychological impact, and the underlying risk and protective factors.
METHODS: We searched five electronic databases (PubMed, Web of Science Core Collection, Scopus,

NHS job vacancies remain at record levels and an increasing number of staff are leaving the NHS. Work-related violence is an aspect that has received little attention as a possible driving force in dropout rates among NHS workforce. Recent figures indicate that approximately 15% of NHS staff had experienced physical violence while at work (NHS Staff Survey, 2022). Given the prevalence of abuse and the consequences it may have on staff wellbeing, we examine the impact of workplace violence on intention to quit the organisation. We employ data from the NHS Staff Survey, a rich dataset that recor

A total of 763 community mental health workers participated in Korea. Among them, 85.85% of workers experienced workplace violence, including verbal (74.31%), emotional (66.45%), infectious (47.44%), informational (42.60%), sexual (32.50%), and physical (23.72%) abuse. Binary logistic regression analysis indicated that sex, occupation, certification, and

The US Department of Labor Occupational Safety and Health Administration identifies recommendations within the Occupational Safety and Health Act (OSHA) General Duty Clause for establishing a safe and healthful workplace for all workers covered by the act. Employers that do not take reasonable steps to prevent or abate a recognised violence hazard in the workplace can be cited. While failure to implement various recommendations and guidelines provided by OSHA is not in itself a violation of the General Duty Clause, organisations that implement a workplace violence programme are providing defen

INTRODUCTION: Several studies have shown that workplace violence in the emergency department (ED) is common. Residents may be among the most vulnerable staff, as they have the least experience with these volatile encounters. The goal for this study was to quantify and describe acts of violence against emergency medicine (EM) residents by patients and visitors and to identify perceived barriers to safety.
METHODS: This cross-sectional survey study queried EM residents at multiple New York City hospitals. The primary outcome was the incidence of violence experienced by residents while working i
