BACKGROUND/PURPOSE: Myasthenia gravis is an autoimmune disease that usually responds positively to treatment with thymectomy. Various approaches via video-assisted thoracic thymectomy as a substitute for conventional sternotomy have been reported. We reported a less invasive technique for thymectomy in pediatric groups.

BACKGROUND: As nasogastric feeding tube insertion is a frequently applied, non-risk-free nursing technique, a high level of evidence-based nursing care is required. Little evidence is available regarding the accurate determination of the insertion length of nasogastric feeding tubes. The method of using the nose-earlobe-xiphoid distance as measurement is inadequate and not supported by evidence. Findings from a recent randomized trial led to an alternative calculation: the corrected nose-earlobe-xiphoid distance formula: (nose-earlobe-xiphoid distance × 0.38696) + 30.37 + 6 cm.

Ventricular tachycardia refractory to traditional therapies such as medical management and endocardial catheter ablation poses a risk for sudden cardiac death and poor quality of life. We describe a patient who was successfully treated for refractory symptomatic ventricular tachycardia using hybrid endocardial and minimally invasive epicardial ablation with a subxiphoid approach.

Scintiangiography of xiphopagus conjoined twins following sequential i.v. injection of Tc-99m sulfur colloid revealed the size, configuration, and anatomic point of fusion of the twins' common liver prior to surgery. Cross circulation was determined to be non-significant by this approach. The technique is presented, compared to other methods, and the benefit of sequential hepatic scintiangiography for xiphopagus conjoined twins is reviewed.

Conjoined twinning is rare in man and non-human primates. The current report describes a case of ischiopagus tripus conjoined Western Lowland gorilla (Gorilla gorilla) twins. Two cases of inflammatory joint disease during attacks of aseptic palmo-plantar pustulosis are reported. Both patients had vertebral involvement: disco-vertebral erosions at several levels in one case and spondylitis and intersomatic ossification in the other.
