MIV-150 and zinc acetate combination provides potent and broad activity against HIV-1.

We previously showed that the combination of the non-nucleoside reverse transcriptase inhibitor (NNRTI) MIV-150 with zinc acetate (ZA) formulated in a carrageenan (CG; MZC) gel provided macaques significant protection against vaginal simian-human immunodeficiency virus-RT (SHIV-RT) challenge, better than either MIV-150/CG or ZA/CG. The MZC gel was shown to be safe in a phase 1 clinical trial. Herein, we used in vitro approaches to study the antiviral properties of ZA and the MIV-150/ZA combination, compared to other NNRTIs. Like other NNRTIs, MIV-150 has EC50 values in the subnanomolar to nano

Zinc Acetate Dihydrate Tablet-Associated Gastritis Occurring in a Post-Hematopoietic Stem Cell Transplant Recipient.

A 65-year-old Japanese woman underwent umbilical cord blood transplantation for acute myeloid leukemia. Zinc acetate dihydrate tablets were administered for hypozincemia after transplantation, and vomiting and appetite loss occurred soon thereafter. Esophagogastroduodenoscopy revealed mucosal redness, erosion, white coat adhesion, and ulcers. Although graft-versus-host disease, intestinal transplant-associated microangiopathy, and cytomegalovirus infection were considered as possible causes, we diagnosed the patient with zinc acetate dihydrate tablet-associated gastric mucosal alterations base

Comparison of zinc acetate hydrate and polaprezinc for zinc deficiency in patients on maintenance hemodialysis: A single-center, open-label, prospective randomized study.

The efficacy and safety of zinc acetate hydrate (ZAH) for zinc supplementation in patients on maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) remains unknown. In this prospective, single-center, open-label, parallel-group trial for MHD patients with serum zinc level <70 μg/dL, we compared ZAH (zinc; 50 mg/day) and polaprezinc (PPZ; zinc; 34 mg/day) beyond 6-month administration in a 1:1 randomization manner. The ZAH and PPZ groups had 44 and 47 patients, respectively. At 3 months, the change rate of serum zinc levels in the ZAH group was significantly higher than that in the PPZ group. Three months after the s

The ameliorative effect of zinc acetate with caffeic acid in the animal model of type 2 diabetes.

Recently the complexation-mediated antioxidative and glycaemic control synergism between zinc(II) and caffeic acid was demonstrated in vitro. The present study evaluated the complexation-mediated antidiabetic and antioxidative synergism between zinc(II) and caffeic acid in diabetic rats and the possible underlying mechanisms. Male SD rats were induced with diabetes using 10% fructose and 40 mg/kg bw streptozotocin. The diabetic rats were treated with Zn(II)-caffeic acid complex and its precursors (caffeic acid and zinc acetate) for 4 weeks at predetermined doses. The effect of the treatments o

Engineering cellulose acetate microneedle coated with zinc-phenolic imidazolium poly(ionic liquids) for atopic dermatitis treatment.

Atopic dermatitis (AD) is a chronic inflammatory skin disorder characterized by impaired epidermal barrier function, immune dysregulation, and microbial colonization, particularly by Staphylococcus aureus (S. aureus). Current topical therapies are often limited by poor dermal penetration, systemic absorption, and long-term side effects. Microneedle (MN) patches have emerged as a promising transdermal delivery platform due to their minimally invasive nature and ability to bypass the stratum corneum. In this study, we developed a non-dissolvable cellulose acetate (CA) MN patch coated with zinc-p

Dual-Mode Strain Relief via Zinc Acetate Enables High-Efficiency InP Quantum Dot Light-Emitting Diodes.

Heteroepitaxial shell growth on quantum dots (QDs) is essential for tailoring carrier dynamics but is often hampered by core-shell interface strain, which becomes more prominent in environmentally friendly InP QDs due to their significant size effect. Although post-treatment of InP cores with zinc compounds is a common approach to alleviate interface strain, conventional synthesis methods often fail to achieve effective doping, typically leaving zinc on the core surface rather than within the lattice. Herein, we present a dual-mode strain relief strategy using the small-molecule precursor Zn(A

The effectiveness of high dose zinc acetate lozenges on various common cold symptoms: a meta-analysis.

BACKGROUND: A previous meta-analysis found that high dose zinc acetate lozenges reduced the duration of common colds by 42%, whereas low zinc doses had no effect. Lozenges are dissolved in the pharyngeal region, thus there might be some difference in the effect of zinc lozenges on the duration of respiratory symptoms in the pharyngeal region compared with the nasal region. The objective of this study was to determine whether zinc acetate lozenges have different effects on the duration of common cold symptoms originating from different anatomical regions. METHODS: We analyzed three randomized

Effects of Zinc Acetate on Serum Zinc Concentrations in Chronic Liver Diseases: a Multicenter, Double-Blind, Randomized, Placebo-Controlled Trial and a Dose Adjustment Trial.

The essential trace element zinc maintains liver functions. Liver diseases can alter overall zinc concentrations, and hypozincemia is associated with various hepatic pathologies. Modulating systemic zinc through dietary supplementation is potentially useful for liver diseases. We evaluated the usefulness of zinc (NPC-02; acetate formulation) supplementation. We conducted two NPC-02 studies on zinc-deficient patients (serum zinc < 70 μg/dL). Study 1: double-blind, randomized, placebo-controlled trial on 57 subjects with chronic liver diseases comparing serum zinc in patients given NPC-02 (NPC-0

Complementary Operando Electrochemical Quartz Crystal Microbalance and UV/Vis Spectroscopic Studies: Acetate Effects on Zinc-Manganese Batteries.

Zinc-ion batteries, in which zinc ions and protons do intercalation and de-intercalation during battery cycling with various proposed mechanisms under debate, have been studied. Recently, electrolytic zinc-manganese batteries, exhibiting the pure dissolution-deposition behavior with a large charge capacity, have been accomplished through using electrolytes with Lewis acid. However, the complicated chemical environment and mixed products hinder the investigation though it is crucial to understand the detailed mechanism. Here, cyclic voltammetry coupled electrochemical quartz crystal microbalanc

Nanofibers comprising polystyrene and zinc acetate for extraction of salivary histidine prior to its determination by HPLC-DAD.

A novel nanofiber-based solid phase extraction (NFSPE) coupled with HPLC-DAD was developed for the determination of salivary histidine, a new potential index of physiological events. The treatment of the sample was based on a coupling reaction of histidine with the diazotization products of sulfanilic acid and sodium nitrite in a slightly alkaline medium, followed by NFSPE. Nanofibers comprising polystyrene and zinc acetate were used as a novel solid-phase sorbent to extract derived histidine via the chelation of Zn2+ with the imidazole group in the analyte. The eluted target compound was anal

Crystal structure of a homoleptic zinc(II) complex based on bis-(3,5-diiso-propyl-pyrazol-1-yl)acetate.

Deprotonation of the methyl-ene group in bis-(3,5-diiso-propyl-pyrazol-1-yl)methane with nBuLi and reaction with carbon dioxide yields lithium bis-(3,5-diiso-propyl-pyrazol-1-yl)acetate (1). Treatment of 1 with ZnCl2 results in the com-pound bis-[bis-(3,5-diiso-propyl-pyrazol-1-yl)acetato]-zinc(II), [Zn(C20H31N4O2)2] (2), whose structure has monoclinic (P21/c) symmetry. The ZnII ion resides on an inversion center and is coordinated by two bis-(3,5-diiso-propyl-pyrazol-1-yl)acetate (bdippza) ligands. Each ligand facially coordinates the zinc center via κ3N,N',O coordination modes to form a dist

Transcriptomic and Functional Approaches Unveil the Role of tmRNA in Zinc Acetate Mediated Levofloxacin Sensitivity in Helicobacter pylori.

Rapid increase in resistance of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) has hindered antibiotics-based eradication efforts worldwide and raises the need for additional approaches. Here, we investigate the role of zinc-based compounds in inhibiting H. pylori growth and modulating antibiotic sensitivities, interrogate their downstream transcriptomic changes, and highlight the potential mechanism driving the observed effects. We showed that zinc acetate inhibited H. pylori growth and increased H. pylori sensitivity to levofloxacin. Transcriptomic profiling showed distinct gene expression patterns between

Application of zinc and calcium acetate to precipitate milk fat globule membrane components from a dairy by-product.

There has been a great deal of interest in developing isolated dairy lipid fractions that are rich in phospholipids (PL), due to their health benefits and functional properties. Dairy by-products that contain elevated levels of PL and milk fat globule membrane (MFGM) proteins can be an excellent source for these isolates. The β stream, a by-product of anhydrous milk fat production, is an excellent candidate because it contains a higher concentration of PL than many other dairy by-products. In this study, we investigated an economically feasible processing method to obtain these valuable compon
