PURPOSE: Diffuse tenosynovial giant cell tumor (TGCT) of the temporomandibular joint (TMJ) is rare. The aim of the present study was to summarize the clinical, radiologic, and pathologic features of this tumor.
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Nine cases of TGCT in the TMJ region were examined. All available radiologic and pathologic documents were carefully reviewed. These cases were grouped into 3 types according to the radiologic features: bone-centered type, intraosseous type, and soft tissue type. Cases reported in the literature were reviewed to better summarize the clinical characteristics.

Forty-four patients with aneurysmal bone cysts were treated with curettage with or without bone grafting, and in 26 (59%) recurrence developed. Of 11 patients treated with radiation, in only 1 (9%) the disease was not controlled. In 1 patient, radiation-induced sarcoma developed. Benign tumours comprise the majority of primary vertebral tumours, and these are often found incidentally on imaging. Nonetheless, accurate diagnosis of these benign lesions is crucial, in order to avoid misdiagnosis as more ominous malignant lesions or infection. Orally administered phosphate supplements are the mainstay of therapy for hypophosphatemic osteomalacia of diverse causes and are generally believed to be free from harmful side effects. Two cases are reported, however, in which long-term therapy (14 and 10 years, respectively) resulted in hypercalcemic hyperparathyroidism associated with surgically proved adenomatous hyperplasia. This complication occurred despite concomitant treatment with pharmacologic doses of vitamin D. Thus, long-term oral phosphate therapy can produce tertiary hyperparathyroidism in susceptible patients.

Extremely favorable results are obtained with the use of microcrystals of methylprednisolone acetate for treatment of bone cysts. These results have led to a complete suspension of surgical treatment of bone cysts since 1974. AIMS: To present our experience on spinal sclerosing epithelioid fibrosarcoma (SEF) and review the existing literature pertaining to SEF of the spine.
METHODS AND RESULTS: Six cases of spinal SEF were reviewed, and a literature search of all primary SEFs of the spine was performed. All tumours occurred in adults (median age, 41 years) and were located all along the spine, the lumbar vertebrae being the most commonly involved.
