A Habitat Model for Disease Vector Aedes aegypti in the Tampa Bay Area, FloridA.

Within the contiguous USA, Florida is unique in having tropical and subtropical climates, a great abundance and diversity of mosquito vectors, and high rates of human travel. These factors contribute to the state being the national ground zero for exotic mosquito-borne diseases, as evidenced by local transmission of viruses spread by Aedes aegypti, including outbreaks of dengue in 2022 and Zika in 2016. Because of limited treatment options, integrated vector management is a key part of mitigating these arboviruses. Practical knowledge of when and where mosquito populations of interest exist is

Comparing the Healthy Nose and Nasopharynx Microbiota Reveals Continuity As Well As Niche-Specificity.

To improve our understanding of upper respiratory tract (URT) diseases and the underlying microbial pathogenesis, a better characterization of the healthy URT microbiome is crucial. In this first large-scale study, we obtained more insight in the URT microbiome of healthy adults. Hereto, we collected paired nasal and nasopharyngeal swabs from 100 healthy participants in a citizen-science project. High-throughput 16S rRNA gene V4 amplicon sequencing was performed and samples were processed using the Divisive Amplicon Denoising Algorithm 2 (DADA2) algorithm. This allowed us to identify the bacte

Predation on sea turtles at sea: A multi-source synthesis and research perspectives.

Predation is a key ecological process shaping sea turtle populations, yet - unlike predation of eggs, hatchlings and adults on nesting beaches - its role at sea remains poorly quantified due to observational challenges. This study synthesizes multiple, rarely integrated data sources-including unpublished data-to examine global patterns of sea turtle predation at sea. Sources include field observations (turtles found stranded, nesting, admitted to rescue centers, or captured in-water for research), literature records, predator diet data, and non-conventional online sources (NCS; images and vide

Exploring dietary patterns during school hours in Swedish adolescent student population, focusing on out-of-school eating and snacking: a repeated cross-sectional study.

BACKGROUND: Establishing healthy dietary habits during childhood and adolescence is essential, as these patterns often persist into adulthood and influence long-term health. In Sweden, school lunches play an important role in overall nutritional intake. However, among adolescents, school lunch participation may decrease, while purchasing food from nearby retailers becomes increasingly common. This study aims to investigate dietary patterns among adolescents aged 13-19 years in Stockholm, Sweden, during school hours, focusing on school lunch participation and snacking inside and around school.

CoronaCare study protocol: an ethnographic study of the risks to and potential for social health during the COVID-19 pandemic.

INTRODUCTION: German government regulations such as physical distancing and limited group numbers, designed to curb the spread of COVID-19, have had far-reaching consequences for the very foundations of social life. They have, to name only a few, transformed greetings and goodbyes, blurred private and public worlds, and complicated basic communication with mandatory mask wearing. The ethnographic study CoronaCare investigates how these sociopolitical measures affect social health, a form of health which unfolds through and across social relations. It explores how caring as a fundamental human

Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, intersex, and its legalisation in Africa: Insights from tertiary-level students in Ghana.

INTRODUCTION: Lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, and intersex (LGBTI) and related activities have been a topic of debate and discussion among policymakers and stakeholders, as well as common citizens in the African region, especially in Ghana. The current anti-LGBTI-related bill being put before Ghana's Parliament signifies the intensity of the issue. Even though some studies have looked at some aspects of the issue, no study presently has explored people's opinion on the passage of any future anti-LGBTI and related legislations in Ghana. AIM: This study examined the perspective of tertiary

[Italy's Slow Medicine: a new paradigm in medicine].

Italy's Slow Medicine was founded in 2011 as a movement aimed to promote processes of care based on appropriateness, but within a relation of listening, dialogue and decision sharing with the patient. The mission of Slow Medicine is synthetized by three key words: measured, because it acts with moderation, gradually and without waste; respectful, because it is careful in preserving the dignity and values of each person; and equitable, because it is committed to ensuring access to appropriate care for all. In a short time, the association spreads at national and international level, gathering t
