Nitrogen-enriched porous carbons were prepared for the first time via pyrolysis (at different temperatures) of melamine-loaded polypyrrole. The melamine/polypyrrole-derived carbons (MPpDCs) and the carbon prepared from pure polypyrrole were characterized with various means; it was found that melamine increased the contents of nitrogen and total acidic or basic groups in the obtained carbon. Multiple benign symmetric lipomatosis (MSL) is characterized by a rapid progression of multiple, symmetric nonencapsulated fat masses in face, neck, and extremities. The lipomas are thought to be the result of defective brown adipose tissue (BAT). In up to 90%, MSL is associated with chronic alcohol abuse. Prognosis depends on the concomitant presence of a neuropathy with a mortality of 25.8%. Therapeutic options are limited to alcohol abstinence and surgical interventions. BACKGROUND Although reduced sweet taste perception has been found in studies of clofibrate in healthy volunteers, this phenomenon has not been reported for the chemically related and more widely used drug fenofibrate. CASE REPORT A 65-year-old woman with insulin-treated type 2 diabetes was initiated on fenofibrate for worsening diabetic retinopathy. She subsequently developed a marked loss of sweet taste perception. After 3 months of fenofibrate, her glycemic control had improved and her insulin requirements had decreased, probably as a result of anorexia. Her renal function had also worsened.

Hemolytic disease of the fetus and newborn (HDFN) occurs when fetal and neonatal erythroid cells are destroyed by maternal erythrocyte alloantibodies, it leads to anemia and hydrops in the fetus, and hyperbilirubinemia and kernicterus in the newborn.
