Dynamic response and failure characteristics of combined rocks under confining pressure.

Gas explosions or coal and gas outbursts can cause transient destruction of combined coal-rock, and the dynamic mechanical response of combined coal-rock masses plays a key role in accident failure, but we now know little about the dynamic mechanical responses of combined coal-rock. In this article, we selected three rocks (limestone, shale, sandstone) and two coals (bituminous coal and anthracite coal) to form combined coal-rock, and analyze their dynamic mechanical properties by using the SHPB system. We find that the dynamic compressive strength and elastic modulus of combined rock-coal are

Enhancement of mechanical performance and heavy metal immobilization in red mud-based cementitious materials through sodium silicate optimization and CaO modification.

Red mud (RM), a highly alkaline by-product of alumina production, poses serious environmental risks, while its high-value utilization remains challenging. Although red mud-based cementitious materials have been widely investigated, simultaneously achieving high mechanical performance and effective heavy metal immobilization remains difficult because the coupling mechanism between hydration evolution and contaminant stabilization is still unclear. This study developed an optimized red mud-based cementitious material to simultaneously enhance compressive strength and heavy metal stabilization wh

Experimental investigation of the effect of steel fibers on the multiaxial behavior of lightweight concrete.

Lightweight concrete (LWC) offers significant advantages in reducing self-weight of structures; however, its porous aggregates and weak aggregate-matrix interfaces reduce strength and limit confinement efficiency under multiaxial stress states. This study experimentally investigates the synergistic effects of steel fiber reinforcement and lateral confinement on the triaxial compressive behavior of structural-grade LWC. Cylindrical specimens reinforced with 0.5%, 1.0%, and 1.5% hooked steel fibers were tested under confinement pressures of 5 and 10 MPa. Results show that lateral confinement and

Investigation on uniaxial compression and fracture damage mode of prefabricated parallel double-jointed red sandstone.

As a special type of joint fracture, the fracture evolution characteristics of parallel double joints have important engineering significance for the stability analysis of fractured rock mass. In this work, a new method for calculating stress intensity factor of parallel double-jointed fractures was importantly proposed. Physical uniaxial compression tests were carried out on parallel double jointed red sandstone filled with cement mortar under different geometric parameters, and the macroscopic mechanical properties and failure characteristics of red sandstone are deeply analyzed. The results

Characterization of tableting properties measured with a multi-functional compaction instrument for several pharmaceutical excipients and actual tablet formulations.

Before designing tablet formulations, it is important to understand the "Tableting Properties" of excipients and API (active pharmaceutical ingredient) powders. Those properties refer to "Compressibility", "Compactability" and "Manufacturability", which are difficult to evaluate quantitatively. In this study, we aimed to evaluate the "Tableting Properties" by using a benchtop single-punch tablet press, developed recently to measure these parameters using a single device. In order to facilitate understanding of the results visually, we proposed a new plot, where the X-axis showed the tensile fr

Compressive and shear behaviour of high-water quick-setting material modified collapsible loess subgrade.

This paper proposed a conceptual material to construct the road subgrade, for which the high-water quick-setting material is adopted to modify the collapsible loess. To verify the feasibility and easy-to-construct of this innovative construction material, a series of mechanical tests were carried out to investigate the compressive and shear behaviour of high-water quick-setting material modified Ili loess. The results demonstrate that the high-water quick-setting material significantly enhances the early-stage strength of loess. The mechanical analysis indicates that both the unconfined compre

Optimization of Water Plugging Characteristics and Mechanical Properties of Acrylate Grouting Materials Based on Composite Crosslinking Strategy.

Traditional acrylate grouting materials often suffer from mechanical performance degradation and interfacial bonding failure under long-term water immersion, significantly limiting their application in pressurized water environments. This study proposes a composite crosslinking synergistic strategy to address these challenges. By constructing a dual-network structure through polyethylene glycol diacrylate (PEG500DA) and a monofunctional crosslinker (PEG-MA), and systematically optimizing the material formulation by regulating the triethanolamine content to control gelation time, the mechanical
