PURPOSE: Primary culture of nonpigmented ciliary epithelium (NPE) has proved difficult in the past. Here we report development of a method of growing and maintaining primary cultures of NPE from porcine eye. Studies were conducted to confirm that the cultured NPE expressed proteins characteristic of native NPE.

Since the synchronization of Plasmodium falciparum has become an essential tool in research, we have investigated the use of a commercial gelatine solution, Plasmion, to replace Plasmagel, which is now difficult to obtain. This method also avoids the use of techniques based on Percoll-glucose gradients. The Plasmion-based technique proved to be a good method and could become an alternative to Plasmagel.

Continuous culture of parathyroid cells has proven difficult, regardless from which species the cells are derived. In the present study, we have used a defined serum-free low calcium containing medium to culture human parathyroid cells obtained from patients with parathyroid adenomas due to primary hyperparathyroidism. To evaluate in a prospective study the sensitivity of urine and spermatic fluid cultures in identifying the presence of infection compared to Meares-Stamey's test (MSt) results. Fourty patients were diagnosed having bacterial prostatitis following MSt. They underwent both urine and spermatic fluid cultures after MSt results and immediately before antibiotic treatment. All the patients were asked which of the three examens was the least tolerable. Urine and spermatic fluid culture were negative in 36 and 4 cases respectively. This paper reports the experimental study of the effect of licorzine on the extracorporeal fibroblast culture.
