It has been previously reported that short term application of calcium-hydroxide to the dental pulp resulted in the formation of a dentin bridge with matrix vesicle calcification. The present study deals with the induction of reparative dentin in rat molar pulps by direct capping with calcium-hydroxide. The teeth were examined after 21 and 35 days. Transmission electron microscopy (TEM) revealed that the calcification process in the newly formed dentin was characterized by apatite deposition in matrix vesicles and the occurrence of calcifying nodules in the matrix. The persistence of these fea

Caries management at the lesion level is dependent on the lesion activity, the presence of a cavitation (either cleanable or non-cleanable), and lesion depth as evaluated via radiographic examination. A variety of non-invasive, micro-invasive, and minimally invasive treatment (with or without restoration) options are available for primary and permanent teeth. Non-invasive strategies include oral hygiene instructions, dietary counseling, and personal as well as professional use of fluoridated products that reduce demineralization and increase re-mineralization. Micro-invasive procedures include

INTRODUCTION: The goal of this study was to examine the adhesive interface of pulp tissue to investigate subclinical failures after direct pulp capping (DPC) of human teeth by using a dentin adhesive system.
METHODS: The pulps of 12 caries-free first premolars scheduled for extraction for orthodontic reasons were exposed and capped with the Single Bond adhesive system. The adhesive technique was carefully performed to ensure complete coverage of the exposed area and a satisfactory clinical aspect. After 1 (n = 6) and 30 days (n = 6), the teeth were extracted for evaluation of the adhesive int

BACKGROUND: Some of the disadvantages of calcium hydroxide Ca(OH) 2 as pulp-capping material are related to the inflammatory response, and its poor sealing ability. Cyanoacrylate glue was proposed in this study as pulp-capping agent because of its sealing ability, and diprogenta, on the other hand, was proposed because of its anti-microbial and anti-inflammatory effects. The aim of this study is to evaluate and compare the histopathological response of the pulp toward cyanoacrylate and diprogenta in direct pulp capping (DPC).
MATERIALS AND METHODS: Cyanoacrylate, diprogenta, and calcium hydro

The aim of this study was to investigate the response of human pulp tissue to a dentin bonding agent, Scotchbond Multi-Purpose Plus (SMPP), in exposed class V cavities. Sixteen human premolar teeth were mechanically exposed. Ten pulps were capped with SMPP and six teeth were capped with Dycal. The cavities were filled with a composite. After 40 days, the teeth were extracted and processed for histologic evaluation. Of the 10 teeth capped with SMPP, eight showed moderate chronic inflammation, one was severely inflamed, and one pulp had no to slight inflammation. None of the teeth capped with SM

This study evaluated the management preferences in a deep carious vital tooth. A questionnaire was e-mailed to members of the Turkish Dental Association. The questionnaire included a photograph and radiographs of an extremely deep carious molar (#16) of a 30-year-old man suffering from cold and chewing sensitivity. The dentists were asked to choose treatments for pulp exposure of <1, 1-2, and ≥2 mm and a permanent restoration. Chi-squared test was used to analyse data (p < 0.05). 504 (4.84%) of 10 411 dentists responded. When the pulp exposure was <1 mm: direct pulp capping (84.9%); 1-2 mm: ro

Thirty-six 56-day-old male Sprague-Dawley albino rats served as two groups of experimental animals. Group 1 was irradiated with 400 rads delivered as total-body radiation from a cesium source. Group 2 served as the control group and was not irradiated. Three weeks later, the dental microscope was used to facilitate various dental procedures in both groups of animals (cavity preparation filled with zinc oxide-eugenol, pulp exposure capped with zinc oxide-eugenol, and pulp exposure left open). Two animals for each procedure from Groups 1 and 2 were killed at time intervals of 2, 4, and 8 weeks.

This retrospective study investigated the key clinical factors influencing the success of vital pulp therapy (VPT) by analyzing failed cases and evaluated the adjunctive role of a semiconductor laser in cases with different pulp exposure sizes. We included 103 VPT cases on mature permanent teeth with caries-induced pulp exposure, dividing them into four groups based on laser use and exposure size (< 0.5 mm or ≥ 0.5 mm). We graded factors including preoperative pulp vitality, intraoperative hemostasis time, and restoration quality. Treatment outcomes were assessed clinically and radiographicall

INTRODUCTION: The current systematic review and meta-analysis aimed to evaluate the success rate of partial pulpotomy in treating permanent posterior teeth with carious vital pulp exposure. A secondary aim was to assess the prognostic factors using a meta-regression.
METHODS: An electronic search was performed for studies from January 1950 to November 2018 in the following databases: PubMed, ScienceDirect, and Cochrane. All searches were performed following the Preferred Reporting Items for Systematic Reviews and Meta-Analyses guidelines. Clinical studies evaluating the success rate of cariou

INTRODUCTION: It was recently reported that heme oxygenase-1 (HO-1) activity is related to stem cell differentiation; however, the involvement of HO-1 in pulp cell growth and differentiation has not been well explored. The purpose of this study was to investigate the role of HO-1 in the growth and differentiation of human dental pulp cells (HDPCs).
METHODS: We evaluated cell growth by MTT assay, mineralization by alizarin red staining, and differentiation marker mRNA expression by reverse transcriptase polymerase chain reaction.
RESULTS: HO-1 induction by cobaltic protoporphyrin IX (CoPP) in

BACKGROUND: Compared with traditional root canal therapy (RCT), vital pulp therapy (VPT) is a personalized and minimally invasive method for the treatment of pulpitis caused by dental caries. However, there are still no clear guidelines for VPT because high-quality randomized clinical trials are scarce. This prospective cohort study evaluated the clinical efficacy of VPT with the light-curable calcium silicate-based material TheraCal LC (TH) and bioceramic material iRoot BP Plus (BP) in reversible and irreversible pulpitis permanent teeth with carious exposures.
METHODS: 115 teeth with revers
