We report on a slowly growing malignant tumor of the nail bed epithelium in a 69-year-old male. On light microscopic examination, the tumor was composed of: (1) some small cysts filled with eosinophilic, amorphous keratin and lined by an atypical squamous epithelium devoid of a granular layer and (2) solid nests and strands of atypical keratinocytes filling the dermis and penetrating the phalangeal bone. CRPS 1 is a chronic pain disorder with an as yet not fully understood pathophysiology. The diagnosis is clinical, and the disorder is characterised primarily by pain and skin changes. We present a patient with an aggressively spreading CRPS 1 due to a minor trauma to the right foot, which led to bilateral knee ex-articulation 11 years later. This case report demonstrates the potentially devastating effects of this disorder and the difficulties in treating it.

Malignant triton tumor (MTT) is a rare variant of malignant peripheral nerve sheath tumor (MPNST) made up of both malignant schwannoma cells and malignant rhabdomyoblasts. The regional lymph node basin is usually the first site of spread in cutaneous squamous cell carcinoma (SCC). Seventy nine hips in 53 recipients of renal allografts were treated by cemented total hip replacement for avascular necrosis of the femoral head between 1972 and 1992. Eight hips in 6 patients required revision for aseptic loosening after a mean of 11.2 years. Three replacements in 3 patients became infected with salmonella enteritidis after a mean of 6.2 years. A 2-mo-old, 90-kg, intact male camel (Camelus dromedarius) was admitted for surgical removal of a supernumerary digit associated with the medial aspect of the right carpus and metacarpus. Patients with short, traumatic, below-the-knee amputations (BKAs) frequently function as if they have knee disarticulations. The goal of this study was to evaluate the results in patients who had lengthening of their BKA stumps to improved prosthesis fit and increase ambulation.
